“These people are going out and non-selectively just wiping out anything they come across - deer, young deer, badgers,” says Frank, a farmer who doesn’t want us to use his real name or say where he lives. “Anything that shines an eye back in a field at night time.”

In my opinion there’s a massive difference between a “poacher” and a “arsehole” a poacher would go get a couple for the pot. A areshole is what we have here, driving on peoples land. Laughing when something is caught. Stabbing something to death. Having bets 😳.

You are spot on these are not poachers. I considered my self a poacher many years ago couple of Pheasants odd Hare and Woodpigeon main quarry. Hare would make a lovely hot pot for two good family meals, Pheasants roasted with seasonal veg and my favourite pan fried Woodie breasts thinly sliced with mashed potato and onion gravy. These people are arse holes and it's pure thuggish lawless criminality. I'm nothing like these people.

I can legally go in the woods and shoot a squirrel for pheasant protection or a rabbit to eat for tea but these people are going against the law and killing healthy breeding deer for the fun of it and ruining the gamekeepers chances of some good deer to be shot and bread.

The culprits dont have a love of field craft , conservation/animal welfare. All they are looking for is a few quid and so called fun. An old fashioned poacher has all those skills and only did it to feed his family.

Make no mistake these men are from South Yorkshire, they travel for miles to put their dogs onto animals, even as far as the Forest of Dean for wild bore, the law should come down hard on these criminals

We had lads poaching and coursing hares on my farm. They would be there 2 or 3 times a week. If approached they would surround and threaten me... So finally i had enough. Next time I saw them, I had bottle of Closomectin Cattle Dose with me. I told them that, yes, I couldn't physically stop them from trespassing but the next time they come here, there will be sausages filled with Closomectin placed round the farm and that their dogs wouldn't even survive the journey home. It wasn't an idol threat. Never saw a single one of them again.

Is it legal to shoot the dogs? If it is, one should shoot any dog that doesn't belong there.
@pessimistprime4877
@pessimistprime4877 4 жыл бұрын
Yes I am entitled to shoot any dog causing a nuisance on my farm. The problem is that these lads were a group of local traveller's. So you could shoot their dogs but the likelihood of retaliation would be fairly high.

Royce Dejong I agree. When I go out in the woods I want to harvest the animal and eat them. And respect them for what they are. What I’m saying is that trespassing and hunting them at night is the wrong way to go about it.

The line between legal rabbitting and illegal rabbitting is usually one of permission. This sense of 'permission' is one part of the problem here - the illegal wildlife and livestock cruelty is another problem. Maybe we should have separated those problems, but we couldn't see an easy way to do that. I hope this explains why we included that picture. / Charlie

I'm sorry you have to deal with situations like this. And I'm thankful it's rare in the northern midwest US. Some shining ( I think you call it lamping ) But the heavy forest makes shining difficult. As well as access to fields / food plots. And no crazy animal rights activity at all. I enjoy your Channel and hope what must be very aggravating events lesson.

Poaching is a big problem in Hertfordshire too, that’s my main job keeping out poachers. Hare and deer coursing. having been shot at a few times, several new windscreens and holes in my vehicle the police show little attitude on dealing with them.

You see these people all the time. I always know who they are when I see them in public. We do need better protection and swifter action on the part of the police. I think that if the police did the job in the towns you wouldn't see as much of this? I have always had the opinion that it's the small crimes that allow the larger crimes to take place. Automotive crime is the easiest way to limit ability to get to these places. Are all the vehicles they use taxes motd and insured? Lights working tyres correct depth of course not few if any pay attention to these things.

Poaching is bad but the Hare coursing ban & the hunting act are the dumbest laws we have. Hares are of least threatened conservation status & Rabbit are of threatened conservation status but you can't use a dog on a Hare but you can a Rabbit ? UK logic.
