Thanks for the interesting information! My husband is a descendant of the Bolling family through Robert's second wife. We have a book that Thomas Tabb Bolling bought on his trip to Europe in the 1780's. We are going to the UK next month and plan to visit Bolling Hall and the Bolling chapel at Bradford Cathedral.

A lot of my father's family came from Virgnia. Only one line, John Chandler, can be traced back to Jamestown from England, the others show up in Virgnia in the late 1600's/early 1700's, then migrated down to Georgia, (some Tennessee) and later Mississippi. I do have other lines that can be traced back to England. The Merrill's immigrated to New Jersey from England in the early 1700's but they were supposed to be Huguenots whose ancestors left France for England 100 years before they came to New Jersey. My branch migrated to North Carolian, then Georgia and then a married daughter left Georgia with her husband for Alabama then to Mississippi by 1840.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the comments here and enjoyed the presentation. On my maternal side I am descended from William Farrar (we pronounce Farrah, like the slacks) a Jamestown ancient planter. One of his descendants, George is married to Judith Jefferson, an aunt to Pres. Thomas Jefferson. My 4 x great grandma Diannah Farrar was very proud of the fact that she was a 1st cousin, 3x removed, to Pres. Jefferson. Ultimately we trace our ancestry back to Yorkshire ENG as well. All very interesting 😊 Thank you for sharing!

@@joshuapeacock446 Not shockingly, here in Mexico many of us as well descend from Charlemagne through many different royal and noble lines, including one through Edward III. His own grandparent was Spanish. Your comment on the Stuarts reminded me. Another line of mine comes through a certain founder of the capital city of Zacatecas. Through some of the very old 16th century families there, I descend from Isabel, the daughter of the Aztec Emperor Moctezuma II as well. She is the Mexican/earlier version of Pocahontas!

I had a best friend from an early age who was blonde, blue-eyed, and pink skinned. I am older now and have lost touch with her. I was doing her genealogy and noticed her grandfather was listed as Indian on his WWII draft record. He had written in White, crossed it out, and replaced it with Indian. He was dark skinned and dark-haired. Another time, I went on Relative Finder and used her grandfathers FamilySearch ID and found that her father is the direct descendant of Pocahontas's father and her father's last name was well known in the colonies What is interesting is that her grandfathers brother was light skinned and light haired and listed as White on his WWII draft record. The draft boards told men with NA descent to list themselves by hair and skin color, not by ethnicity. I have no idea if she had taken a DNA test, but it would be interesting to know if any NA would show up.
@tammystansell40614 күн бұрын
It might not show up in a DNA test. My paternal great grandmother was 1/2 Indigenous and there are also ancestors on my mother's side. I only test at 1-3%. DNA matches on my father's side of first cousins show maybe half having a the same percentage that I do. I'm inclined to believe any DNA on my mother's side has been filtered out. Draft registration cards are great anecdotal clues for sure.

Elizabeth Warren did not claim descent from Pocahontas. In fact, her DNA test shows she has a Native American ancestor within the last 150-300 years, too recent to be Pocahontas at 400 years ago. People whose only Native American link was Pocahontas are unlikely to still have any recognizable DNA from that link.

This method worked out really well for my colonizer family, which is basically 1/8 of my current ancestry. I am not proud of this side of the family. They were actively involved in the theft of North America, known at the time as Turtle Island, and one cousin was Meriwether Lewis who took part in the enslavement of Matoak for their cross continental trek. In this line there are more land grabbers such as James Monroe. While I don't honor these people, I have to acknowledge them, and feel the need to do penance for their crimes and the genocide and environmental disasters they inspired.
