I love how Menken wraps up all the major musical themes of the movie into one epic and tear-inducing ending

I love it too! One of the things that was missing in Frozen imo. The guys did a great job but I just can't stop thinking how it would've been if Alan had made the score. Menken in a genious!!!

+Mariana Garcia Even in Tangled, I was a bit disappointed that the film didn't end with a rousing score. It was just cheeky dialogue and another joke with the old, drunk guy. Funny ending way to end, but not particularly great or emotional.

+Rick Beck ugh I know! It bothers me that they had that ol guy for the ending. It wasn't even funny, it looks creepy to be honest. I 100% agree with you.

This has to be one of Disney's finest endings ever conceived. People may moan that Pocahontas is a historically inaccurate film, and it is, but she and John Smith don't get a traditional happy ending. The way they say good-bye is poetic and gorgeously realized, both visually and through this masterful score. It's really outstanding work.

Rick Beck as a kid it was the movie that made me feel like I was watching a grown up film. I don't agree with the historical innacuracies that the movies portrays but as a love story, it works for me!

It's too bad Disneys movies nowadays dont have this ending...especially when 3D animated movies replaced 2D animation of the Disney Golden Age through the Rennaisance.

Yep. I also appreciate the bittersweet ending. Plus, from start to finish, this movie's music is first-rate: the songs AND the score (especially love 3:35 til the end).

Goosebumps. Goosebumps all over. People always say that Beauty and the Beast is the best of Alan Menkin's soundtracks, but, in my opinion, Pocahontas is. It never fails to make goosebumps appear on my skin (especially this score). When it gets to the part where it starts playing the instrumentals for 'If I Never Knew You' and starts speeding up when she starts running, and then transitions into 'Colors of the Wind' I feel like crying because it's so perfect.

My favorite Alan Menken piece by far. Every time I hear "Farewell" I get so emotional. The buildup to the crescendo in the end is just so beautiful. Alan Menken could always make a damn good soundtrack.

3:57 is where the goosebumps arrive. I wish Disney still did this with their musicals, like "Frozen," "Tangled," and hopefully "Moana." Have a choir singing the main song at the end for a powerful finale.

the part in the music; where in the movie pocahontas and some of the people from her tribe appear through the fog with bowls of food and corn. that moved me. the music was on point too.

I remember watching this when I was little and learning not all stories have a happy ending. Which of course makes the ones that do all the happier, and the ones that don't all the more aching :)

This movie, although a favorite of mine, is a white man's fantasy. I love the character design and the music so so much. But I struggle with this whole movie, not only because it isn't true, but because of how the US government still treats indigenous population today. So much culture and people just massacred and colonized, and separating kids from their families. But that scene of Pocahontas running in the woods to say good bye, is forever etched in my childhood. I was able to hate myself a bit less because her beauty was so unconventional.
