Lures are by far the most exciting way to catch most fish, especially Pike. Jerk baits are Totally Awesome.

And the reason (I think) the rivers are flooding in the first place is the cutting down of trees. I was reading a conversation between two tree experts the other night and one asked the other what the amount of water was retained by trees per year? His answer was 10 gallons per inch. I've cut trees down myself when they were blocking the light from my house and making it damp and the following day water was flowing out of the tree stump like a small stream. So think about how much water would be soaked up by the trees that are now being cut down to make houses etc.

Why do those rivers actually silt up? Rivers don't naturally silt up and disappear do they? Is it because the weed grows due to fertiliser and over pastured Meadows?

great Video brilliant tips. I usual float fish for pike but will certainly be trying this next trip out. would you use the same technique with a lure or would you retrieve it differently?

Each lure will have a different retrieve but I still like the jerky stop,start,etc of the twitched sprat style on my lures rather than a constant retrieve.

None at all.Its called a Partridge VB hook.Like a large single hook with a smaller single hook at the back of the shank. I believe the VB was for Vic Bellars who I guess designed it ? I would like to see the baitholding hook cranked over at a slight angle to make it even easier to unhook.

Hi guys, just went today for a short 2h session and decided to use sprats, got 5 fish which is not bad for the venue but they were all small, any ideas why? Is the bait to small?

Might just be a water with small pike in .You could try twitching with a larger bait.Maybe Smelt or herring.

Hi there! I live in the Boston area of Massachusetts U.S.A, I’ve been enjoying your videos now for almost six months. I was wondering if you had any tips/tricks on how to catch our Northern chain pickerel(closest to Pike we have) in the late fall early winter. Last year I got my first(about a 3lber, not bad!) since then I’ve only been able to crush them on jerk baits on medium spinning gear. And lure you recommend I try in our ponds/lakes? Thanks in advance Charlie from Boston #TAF
@TAFishing7 жыл бұрын
When I was last on Cape Cod ponds I think I got the Pickerel on a very small spinnerbait.We were Smallmouth fishing if I recall,and the Pickerel were near the edge of surface floating weed around the margins,very much like the areas we would target for Northerns. I was there a couple of times in the Fall,October time. You need a lightweight rod and reel to toss out the small spinnerbaits though. Boston area and the Cape great fishing spots and I loved the wooden buildings with the "widow walks".Great for photography.

I wonder if this method would work on smallmouth.

@joechappell3687 жыл бұрын
I’m going to a small pond tomorrow where you can fish lures live and deadbaits what do you think is the best method
@DjDolHaus867 жыл бұрын
Depends on the species you're after and the conditions, there is no "best option". Some days the fish will be spread out in which case a more mobile approach will be favourable, on others they'll be bunched up so a more static approach will pay off, some days they want to chase something and others they're more happy to scavenge
@joechappell3687 жыл бұрын
Ill be going after pike, i'm quite an experienced carp/ coarse angler but its getting into the pike season and i would like to try and broaden the types of fishing i do. I was wandering what method is best for pike, live/dead bait or lures.
@joechappell3687 жыл бұрын
I have a pike float and have made up some wire traces but i only have a few basic lures, will these do the job? They are like metal i think they're called spoons , look like that and are about 8-10cm ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB15agDKpXXXXcUXXXXq6xXFXXXh/2014-real-soft-bait-isca-artificial-lures-free-shipping-30pcs-spoon-5cm-7-1g-6-hooks.jpg_640x640.jpg and i also have a few jigs that are about 6cm long, are these too short?
@DjDolHaus867 жыл бұрын
The spoons look fine if a little small and the same with the jigs, however being that you're just looking for a bite the smaller lures are less of an issue. In regards to the float equipment you've got you'll probably want to look at twitching a deadbait as described here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pX7KloaqpJ2dj9E . This method will allow you to cover a lot of water which is important if you don't know the lake/species, remember that like most fish they're not difficult to catch if you can find them. Livebaits are great if you know where the fish are likely to be holding up but until that point it's just another complication

Thanks sounds useful ill tell you how i get on tomorrow

Hi all, I have yet to buy my own fishing gear and was just wondering if anyone would so kindly lend some advice. I've done abit of fishing here and there, never really any of it serious. Mainly float fishing on freshwater and ledgering in saltwater however that was only a handle full of times. I've fished for carp but that was in a friends lake and if im honest it was like shooting fish in a barrel. Good fun as far as the fight is concerned but didn't seem to require any skill. Anyway, i'd like to try my hand at freshwater lure fishing particularly using a baitcaster. I see alot of people using them now and it seems to be a growing thing here in the UK. I've only ever used a spinning reel before so it will be completely alien but im willing to give it a shot. I'd like to go after all sorts of freshwater fish from small perch to somewhat big pike (eventually). Thus i'd like an "allround" setup. I've been looking at some rods and reels and if I'm honest im honest (dont hate me) the abu garcia pro max combo seems the most cost effective option. However the problem I'm facing is that the casting weight is 15g to 45g I think. I'd be getting the 6ft 6 model so im not sure if those figures are for the 7ft model or for both. Regardless my main question is would i be able to cast out say a shad with a 6g jighead on it? Will this rod still be effective for a range of lures right down to 5gs? Another option would be the abu garcia devil casting rod which comes in 6ft 6 and has a casting weight of 5-20g which may seem better suited but to buy a seperate reel id be spending more money that the pro max combo and i dont want to since the devil is not as good as a rod as the pro max. Note: I will most likely be spooling whatever reel with 12lb berkley trilene xl flurocarbon just due to the fact it has less stretch than mono but is easier to manage/ cheaper than braid which seems appropriate for a beginner like myself. Thoughts and feedback would be much appreciated. Great video guys!

It is not the Environment Agency ! The Problem is with the Canals and Rivers Trust ! E A get around 26 million from rod licences a year ! Where as the C R T get 400 million a year from the tax payers to look after our water ways ! Now you tell me were that 400 million is going ? The C R T even sells off parts of our water ways to private fishing clubs ! This is one big con and crime ! I havelost count of how many large pounds and pits have come over grown with weed and that green plant stuff that covers all the surface ! Time to sign a potition !
@DjDolHaus867 жыл бұрын
Having worked for both the EA and the CRT I can tell you that the EU has no influence on either aside from basic overarching stuff like employment laws, in fact the EU was subsidising a lot of large scale projects so they were providing vast amounts of funding that will now disappear. The simple problem is money, 400 million pounds might sound like a lot but when you consider the amount of freshwater we've got in this country it doesn't spread very far or very evenly, popular areas close to population centres get the most of it and the rest is bitterly fought over. The work that is undertaken is mostly done so to prevent flooding rather than to enrich waterways for anglers, with more and more councils and struggling farms selling floodplains to housing contractors to cope with the rising populace the need is even greater
@rookiefishing97537 жыл бұрын
If people want the A E to spend rod licencing fees on water ways then everybody who owns a rod licence should have a right to fish them for free as long as in is not on private property ! And private property should not receive a pen from rod licence fee if they want to charge people to fish ! Nothing in this world is for free so we need to follow where our money is going ! Fed up of being conned !

I always have my dog on at least a good "verbal" lead in such circumstances, if not an actual lead to ensure they do not go near anglers. Mainly because I know that anglers are legitimately using very sharp hooks", and I don't what to put my dog in harms way. Anglers appreciate the thoughtfulness too which is nice.
