THIS WORKS. Here in Costa Rica gophers are a real pest in some area. I have had them THREE TIMES and each time got rid of them by digging open their most recent tunnels and INSERTING LIVE TOADS, tgen covering them. NO MORE GOPHERS.

Great info, I am being overrun and need some scientific help. I am not alone, Many neighbors complaining of the same thing. The rains this year helped spawn a huge increase in the population.

NOT all gopher traps are equal.. I do use the DK 1 for very large main runs, but the gophinator traps are by far more effective for any regular size gophers typically, outperforming the EZ set and older style victors and 'old reliable' macabee traps at least 2:1.. for newborn gophers, I do prefer the smaller version of the gophinator, the 'molinator' for all my smaller runs.. just a hint for anyone out there who needs to trap gophers every day..

When using the DK1, leave the tunnel open if possible. The gophers come up their lateral tunnel to bury it back because it lets in drafts. Works 8/10 times for me.

@mict450 Further tips ? Just try to trap the fence lines and road ditches first. A gopher will migrate.. same as mole......just under the surface to avoid predators. They do have a honing instinct and often return to the exact same area.....and use old tunneling. If you have gophers you most likely have ground squirrels ...snakes... fox.....badgers and fox. Ground squirrels often keep the gopher holes open for the return of the " gopher " ! Between all of them they will do a good job converting your lawn or hay field into a rough waste land !

Mine would throw dirt out of his tunnel every day around 2 in the afternoon. I waited for him with my pellet gun pretending i was a sniper and shot him right in the neck.

I had a gopher that made a hole in my front yard. What worked for me to get rid of them was to pour 2 quarts of urine down the hole and then filling the hole in. I haven't seen anymore holes.

That seems like the best advice yet!! There is ALWAYS something natural…. It’s just finding the information that has been lost. Tyvm. Going to give that a try before I get out the firing squad. Ty 👍

Somewhat accurate, look for the freshest mound of dirt, the mound is the off ramp of the freeway system, probe away from mound, between other mounds as in his green line. Excavate to expose freeway tunnel, use two traps, I prefer the box, because the gopher does not have to climb over trap. Wear gloves, spoon out all loose dirt crumbs of tunnels. Trap needs to be free of smell from previous kill, so I heat/wash the trap. Set trap onto face of tunnel, bait inside back of trap w/ fresh vegetation, cover, so no light enters. Repeat for opposite tunnel. Come back next day. Bait: use a couple tablespoons, if you don't drop enough down or into tunnel, and gopher does not consume all of it, gopher gets sick, but not die, then gopher becomes, "bait shy". Never to eat bait again. Use only in dry soil. Fume-toxin, phos-tox.....use only in wet/moist soil. Gas will absorb into ground as it trans-locates through tunnel. Extremely deadly, but highly effective. And remember, Dead gophers don't come back!

You "never " probe around to find the entrance ! If you disturb the area the gopher will plug the hole before anything such as a trap or even poison ! You gently dig behind where the gopher threw the dirt... using only fingers ! If you go to this extreme as in this video you will destroy the main entrance of the tunnel and then have to contend with two holes . Work slow and find the primary hole only !

Gophers are smart......but smell plays little in setting traps or poisoning them ! Ive trapped gophers for 45 years... Trapped 250 gophers in a year. missing only two. Gophers can and will become trap smart....once you miss them..game over !

@@mict450 Search out freshest mounds first, eliminate all possible distractions, such as smell, loose dirt crumbs in tunnel prior to trap. Pre-bait back of trap to lure gopher toward trap. Cover tunnel opening with rock/veg=no light. "Gophers can and will become trap smart....once you miss them..game over !" It happens, gophers will plug traps, so you move further down to older mound, or upward. Gopher will burrow around damaged tunnel too. Reset traps, Game still on!! Also when excavating tunnel, be mindful of a narrow body brown fly coming out of either tunnel (remember you dissected tunnel in half) the brown fly follows gopher feeding off scat. 99% kill rate when fly is present. As with Irv Farmer, myself 60 yrs of trapping, poisoning, fumigating, excess of 8,000 gophers. Dead gophers don't come back!
