The US Army uses it as the M2 compass. The M2 is so accurate that it’s use to setup land navigation courses. Really good presentation and a clear understanding of the use.

Carried one in the military in the 80s and 90s used for calling artillery and mortars, I was a Cavalry Scout. Great instrument.

I notice some of these are marked out with four quadrants...Could you explain what are these for?
