I wouldn't call him the best ever bc he didn't block and his pass catching was mediocre and in the pro's bc he never used his power they took him out in the red zone & goal line a lot. I put at least 10 backs ahead of him bc of this. But you must give credit where it's due, he easily had the best moves ever, hands down!

Sanders was so dominant in college that when he was behind Thurman Thomas, Barry Switzer told his players not to injure Thomas because they didn't want to face his backup Barry Sanders who was a kick returner then. Both Thomas and Sanders are in the NFL HOF. This is a description for that 1988 season: "but it all came together in 1988, when he put together the single-greatest individual season in college football history: 2,628 rushing yards (2,850 if you count his bowl game), 515 kick/punt return yards and 39 total touchdowns (44 with the bowl). That included four 300-yard games and seven 200-yard games. Players have tried to match those stats in more games per season, but those marks - like Sanders himself - may never be brought down."

I have no doubt that Mr. Sanders retired only on account of his not wanting to break Walter Payton's at the time, all time leading rushing record. He is that kinda man. Who is the most humble man to ever step on the gridiron. I just love, respect and admire him for always handing the football to the refs after everytime he had touched the ball. Thanks for posting this. Great to see Barry Sanders' highlights at real speed vs. all the NFL ones that are like at 80% speed. They show the true greatness of his skills. Nebraska and Oklahoma were two 80s college football powerhouses, so that shows he wasn't playing cupcake competition. I remember seeing him play that game against Oklahoma live, specifically the play (@5:39) where he dodged the guy who tried to take out his legs on the long run and then got caught. I was like "Omg what did I just see?!?" when he sidestepped the dude came flying up and he totally avoided him with no loss of speed. :D

I have yet to see a non-Barry Sanders or Gale Sayers back with that ability to cut and juke without losing speed. It's crazy to watch. Even his short runs were breathtaking. I am a lifelong Chicago Bears fan, and I watched him play the Bears twice a year for years. He is without a doubt the most elusive back that I've ever seen play football. During his NFL days, he unfortunately showed that he was ineffective as a blitz pick-up blocker, and he was not very effective in short yardage situations. But otherwise he was an incredible player. I have great respect for how humble he was. It is great to see him during his college years running from the I-formation and sometimes even receiving the option pitch. Thanks for the upload!

David K Walter was also great. Although not gifted with nearly the athleticism or agility of Barry. Payton had a huge heart that made up for his lack of top tier ability. I also wondered why Walter carried the football like a loaf of bread. Fundamental he was very weak in that department. Great all rounder tho. Very versatile at everything....just not in the same league as sanders when it came to running the ball.

Dude had 99 career rushing yards in a run and shoot offense. Played 10 years. Do the math. Also they did want him getting hurt from blitzing lbs and defensive ends. Why get him hurt.

I was a school bus driver and one day, a lady on Sunset blvd. near UCLA, on a blind corner, made a U-turn in front of my bus. I can't explain to this day what happened next because I should have crashed, but the bus seemed to have gained some extra-stopping power that day as I carefully slammed on the brakes; no one was hurt. It's as if angels stood in front of my bus and slowed it gently but firmly down. Watching Barry Sanders reminds me of that. I never said this about anyone, but sometimes Barry Sander's moves don't appear to be human alone; as if his speed and quick moves are attributed to some otherworldly force. There is no one I have ever watched at RB, that I can say that about. Especially during his NFL career. I know it all sounds weird, but some things just can't be explained with just a simple answer, or our eyes are playing tricks on us.
