Any plans to review Fair Phone (open source) ? If so, what I haven't seen many tests of it is how one might use it plus SOME of google apps (such as GoogleMaps + Gmail) and apps like Whatsapp (the latter of which someone online indicated they can only use w/t most recent DUAL SIM Fair Phone). If using a FairPhone on dual sim, can one also have 2 different phone numbers and thus be linked to Google / Whatsapp on one sim, but PRIVATE on another sim? Ugh...

For BSG gcam above version 8.7, you can change the contrast and improve details by tweaking these settings: Settings>Configuration of modes> *enable additional settings in modules> select a camera module, for example Back(1.0) is usually the main camera > scroll down to "additional settings" then, for both HDR+ and HDR+enhanced, change Dehaze strength factor to 0.0. (this reduces contrast and helps retain detail in the shadows) Then go to >Denoise and change Luma strength factor to 0.0, for both HDR+ and HDR+enhanced (Luma strength reduces the noise suppression algorithm and increases detail) Also recommended is in the camera module settings>Exposure correction you enable the x8 exposure for ONLY the HDR+enhanced. (x8 exposure encourages gcam to use lower iso and slower shutter speeds which reduces noise and improves detail, provided your phone is kept still) If gcam images are too dark, go to Exposure compensation and select +2 or +3.

This is a great video but it does leave out covering one very important difference. The stock camera recording at 4k 30fps records in HDR10+ BT2020 while GCam records in BT.709. There is quite a substantial difference in specification there which this video doesn't explore in practical terms what the impact of that is. Any chance of a follow-up video addressing this please?

I use bigkaka 9.2 V4 gcam and i like it. Better shots with low light, and selfies (4 megapixels binned) especially with ultrawide 8 megapixels sensor. But stock camera isn't so bad with primary 64 megapixel sensor, and it is useful for heic saving images

@@malikali-ss2fe Hello Malikali! For the port in the video description, there is not a watermark on by default. For other ports, it is either a setting within the settings menu (possibly advanced settings) or it's in the main photo user interface at the top.

Thanks FreeThinker! Hmmm. In this price range, I would honestly go with a used flagship. Specifically from Samsung. They have the best native video features and performance. Maybe something from the S22 series. Or even the A54. OnePlus has delivered pretty solid video performance as well for the last few years. Maybe a OnePlus 10? Just not the "T" series from OnePlus.

Generally I prefer the photos and videos on my Poco X6 pro taken with GCam over the stock camera app. However, one of the problems I have with my version of GCam is I cant zoom x2 on 4k video. This is the only reason I cant use GCam as my default camera app which is the pits. Any help or advice would really be appreciated? I used the BSG port.

Thanks Anonadude! The Gcamator app is fine, I prefer just downloading directly for some reason. Yes, GCam can definitely enhance the camera quality in the X6 Pro--especially when some well tuned configs come out.

Yes, it's pretty simple. If a certain feature doesn't work, all you have to do is download an extra configuration file or try another GCam port.

Hello Angel! Yes! Go into settings, advanced, and switch on Raw / JPEG control. Then back in the normal photo interface, you can swipe up and choose pro options at the top of the quick settings menu

Thanks Pradeep! I did try 4 other ports and liked the BSG version best. It might not be the best port though, especially as config files are created for other ports. Generally, I only have to test more than 3 or 4 ports if the app is constantly crashing or a majority of the cameras aren't supported. I tested more than 20 for my S24 Ultra video, and still couldn't find a completely functional port.

Hello Yurri! I haven't tested either phone, but on paper the F6 Pro does give you more camera options. An extra physical camera, more video options, and a better processor to handle all of it. If the price difference isn't significant, I'd say F6 Pro. But that's just looking at specs on paper.

Thanks Soufiane! Unfortunately, I haven't used any of those phones besides the Poco. I did like the GT Neo 3, and I've heard great things about Realme cameras lately. For camera performance I'd look at the Pixel 8 or 7a. They won't be the best in terms of battery life though. The Galaxy A55 should be launching soon too, it might have better battery performance and generally that series has had better than average cameras for the price. I'm using the OnePlus 12 right now and I really like its cameras too (plus great battery life). Sorry. I know this isn't much help.

Hello Nomad! Understand, and yes, but you'll have to look for a different GCam port. Or go with McPro24fps, Filmic Pro, MotionCam, or even Open Camera (I think Open Camera allows 25fps filming).

Hello Marcelo! That makes sense to me. The decision to upgrade in 2024 is tough, older phones are supported longer, and batteries are big enough to last a few years without having to charge every 4 hours. I'm excited to see what the F6 looks like this year too! I'm using the OnePlus 12 right now and I absolutely love it--easy to recommend if you find one on sale.

Hello! Generally I have better luck with GCam on Snapdragon powered devices, but in the last year I've been able to use more ports with Mediatek powered phones and they are also performing pretty well.

Hmmm. I think I prefer the X6 Pro. The F5 has better camera performance, but from what I can remember, that's about it. Plus, the in-display fingerprint sensor is a great improvement over side mounted for me. Besides that, the X6 Pro is overall a stronger performing phone.

Thanks for video. I have question about resolution and using lenses. Is there some hack or way to force gcam (or other 3d app) to use all lenses and resolutions? I found, that gcam don´t use ultrawide (16mm) and macro cam and the main (64MP / 25mm) cam is limited to 16MP. Also front cam is limited to 4MP instead of 16 MP. I tried another app, and result is the same, even though it found ultrawide lens.

Thanks Zelko! The short answer is yes . . . but unless you can find a good config file for a GCam port tuned for the Poco, it's going to take some fiddling in the GCam advanced settings. Honestly, I've only ever successfully dove in and solved that problem for myself once and that was a while back with the Poco F4.

Hello Paul! I did test the Nothing Phone 2 for about a month, and I liked it a lot, but decided it wasn't really worth making any videos about. At the time I wasn't getting significantly better/consistent performance from GCam.
