READ:
i hope i explain things clearly enough. i wasn´t at my best while doing this vid and i didn´t write down notes which i usually do for tutorials. in matters of the compression - if you put it behind the amp the distortion will get softer as the note fades out, but the compressor will still keep the sustain. with certain compressors of the pod hd it also forces its characteristic sound on the amp sound. can be good depending on what you want. just try it out.

This is so well explained... Thanks man. I'll figure out how to fit those 3 EQs in just 1, to leave space to other effects.

This is a really amazing tutorial and I know theres no way I'm the only one who got a lot out of this. The tone you made in this video reminds me a lot of the Volume's VIA tone also. Great Job!

Open the Line 6 audio driver control panel on your computer and turn "hardware monitor level" down to 0. Instructions to do this are in the downloadable advanced user guide ( look in "USB audio" section). Once you are done recording, turn it back to 100 to be able to hear the POD HD signal again.

the way i use a boost pedal it doesn´t introduce more distortion, just character. plus i don´t want to have a too distorted sound, but have it crisp and clear. so yes, a compressor is needed to help still get sustain, without adding extra distortion.

i haven´t played around with the cab options so much, yet, because i mostly use IR´s. but i´d say try to find a good balance between body and clarity. going black and white about it probably wont give you the satisfaction. so go with grey.

i play the schecter c-7 blackjack atx which is loaded with seymour duncan blackouts. but i also put the screamer drive at 0%. so there´s barely any additional noise coming in from it.

Amps Pre only simulate the pre amp section of the whole amplifier whereas Amps simulate the pre amp and power amp, so they simulate the whole amplifier. in a real amp the pre amp amplifies the guitar signal and adds distortion if needed. the power amp provides power to drive the speakers in the guitar cab and it also adds some tonal character. on the pod i only use the Amps, not the Amps Pre.

if this happens with every high gain amp model it could simply be the way you hold your pick. if you hold it in too big of an angle you naturally scratch more of the picks edge over the strings. i use the solo crunch model for solos and hold my pick fairly straight so i mostly just pick with the tip and i don´t have any trouble with pick noise.

I know that of course! I just asked it becouse I want to play like that live on concert. It's just maybe add a bit more space for the vocals without puting back the rythm guitars. But maybe I will have some problems with phases. I'll give it a try. In recording dual tracking is the best for killer rythms!

A bit late... but just in case you are still having the issue. You can mute the second signal by opening your ASIO editor and setting the "hardware monitor" to a lower setting. As long as you dont change the "record send" then you will only hear your sound when you are armed for recording.
@ForTiorIJohnny

to be honest, i was wondering about that, too. the clip light seems to be only for the mic input. for the guitar input i check it in the DAW that the input level isn´t too high.

Do have any idea what the logic between the signal chain location and the location on the rack is? It makes no sense to me?!
@funknotik
@funknotik 10 жыл бұрын
What is your experience with the "Hard gate?" Also what do you think about using the compressor first in the signal chain? For ex: guitar/ compressor/ gate/ tube screamer/ gate/ amp? I've seen alot of people set up their signal chain this way with analog equipment always with the comp first. I'm experimenting with POD setting like this.
@ForTiorIJohnny
@ForTiorIJohnny 10 жыл бұрын
i wouldn´t put a compressor first. you´re basically raising the noise which makes it harder to cut with the gate later on. i always put a subtle gate first to cut out the noise, then compress and perhaps another gate to cut any extra noise.
@funknotik
@funknotik 10 жыл бұрын
Yeah it definitely produced unwanted noise on the pod. Much better with your method, thanks for your response, awesome channel and music.

oh ok yea that would make sense. the only reason i moved the screamer drive up was because the tone lacked balls after i rolled the compressor down. I think im going to replace the stock bridge pup with a SD pegasus soon though. tone for days.

i´m not sure you can mute the direct signal from your pod and only hear the processed signal from your DAW when you use the pod as audio interface. i´ve struggled with that problem, too. that´s why i don´t use the pod as audio interface. i just plug it into the line input of my soundcard and from the windows settings i can mute the direct sound but keep the processed sound. in any case, excuse my use of words, but eff EZmix and guitar gods.
@lukemoran9001
@lukemoran9001 11 жыл бұрын
Just out of curiosity, what kind of guitar/pickups are you using? because as a start, i made basically the same patch as you, except after was all said and done, it was still kinda noisy (im using a sbmm jp70 with stock pups), and that "afterburn" sound was still there. So what I ended up doing was just rolling back the compressor level and turning of the screamer drive to between 15-25%. much tighter, no more noise, and still great crunch.

Passive or active pickups? I have a hd500x and my tone is good but could be better. I have actives on my 8 and 9 string and passives on my 7 but I barely play my 7

I'm moving between the two now and got a hard time deciding. The regular one got a bit more balls as you say, but the Pre sounds a bit grittier and doesn't sound as compressed. Damn it.

and what is a djentish lead guitar suppose to sound like? djent is a rhythm guitar thing. you got the principle of building a signal chain here, try to use it on a lead tone. it´s actually not much different from what i do here. just less gating, more distorting and a bit different EQing. i will definitely still make one on bass tones.

Something that works for me is to use two amps, almost the same settings, and different cabs. Look up Meambobbos POD HD guide and look for the Dual Cab section. It's got all you want about a damn good tone. :)

yes, i´m pretty sure. on the top of my head i´d put a digital delay on path a, give it a delay of a few milliseconds, mix 100, feedback 0, then pan path a left and path b right. but if you want to do this to avoid dual tracking, don´t be a lazy bun. techniques like this never sound as good as dual tracking.

Awesome Tutorial. I have a POD HD issue that I hope you can help with. I want to use my POD HD to record a dry signal straight into my laptop using usb. From there, I'd like to use plugins to shape my sound (ezmix, etc). However, I can't isolate the plugin sound/output from the dry signal. I'm listening though the POD HD headphones. Any suggestions? I'd like to only hear the output from the plugin in my pro tools. Thanks man.

Hey man I just had a quick question. I also use a pod hd pro and I'm using a schecter blackjack, however with any distorted tones I notice a terrible amount of pick noise on my higher strings. I can hear the pick scraping the string with every note I play and it tends to dominate over the actual note. How would one resolve this? Turning down the distortion does not seem to help and it's raping my tone.

A question, when i have my Pod connected, all my sound seems to go through my PC and when i activate monitor inside of my DAW i get a double feedback obviously. And i have tried turning off my line volume under the "Playback" tab on my PCs built-in soundcard. But this doesn't seem to fix the problem, I have even de-activated every other soundcard except for the Pod HD but it still goes through my PC aswell. Any idea of what this could be?

Great video! Soon i will buy Line 6 HD Pro and i have one question for you. What will happen if i select "No Cab" in cabinet option,add noise gate and other fx after amp and then load IR file in LeCab2 to simulate cabinet? Will signal go throught the PreFx-Amp-PostFx and then throught LeCab2? Do i need to do add separate noise gate vst after the LeCab2?

Hi! Can you make this tone to stereo in the HD pro? Like the Doubleer in the TC electronic G System. It's just doubles your guitars signal pans it left and right and gives a bit of delay to one. It sounds like you hear 2 guitars. Is that (or something similar) possible on this stuff? Cool video btw. Thanks!

Johnny do you ever use dual amp blocks,or just single?
@ForTiorIJohnny
@ForTiorIJohnny 10 жыл бұрын
for bass i use dual amp. one for clear low end, one for grinding distorted mids. but for guitars i like to keep it simple and effective. dual amps for guitars sounds like a method to use when you can´t get a good tone with one amp. but i´m pretty happy with the tones i got so far, so i don´t see a need to use dual amp.

when you only record guitars and perhaps vocals, then a Pod alone will be enough. they work well as interfaces. for guitar the pre amp of the Pod is definitely much better than a Focusrite interface, because it´s specifically made for guitar.
