I have been interested in this field for a few years now. my story is similar to Nate's as far as working for my dads business since I was 16 and just learning the ropes when I could until I got out of HS. 2 years ago I almost attended a school, but I was getting ahead of myself. I didn't have all the money to get there but I wanted it so bad. then other things came up so I just didn't ever think I could pursue it. plus i'm in central Texas and not a lot of people have info on this particular trade. but around that time I got word of a scuba master in my hometown with a reservoir on his land so I took the class. Really got passionate about diving. Since then I have been trying to get info and insight on this subject like what dive schools have the best job placement, cost, etc. thanks Jody for your vids and Nate. always learning something.

Jody, you're always talking about finding something interesting to put into your weekly videos. I have an idea that I think would be great for one of them. Talk to us about how to PROPERLY use a 6" Metabo grinder with a cut off wheel to cut on a line accurately. How do you start the cut. Where do you start the cut, what do you do if the piece is 4" wide and you're blade can only cut in from the side 2". Now I realize that anybody can hack up steel using one of these tools, I've proven that multiple times, but how do you cut steel accurately enough to weld the pieces together using a grinder to cut the steel. I think this would be a very useful video.

Hello I have 2 years welding experience in the boiler makers union , I graduate a basic welding course at a tech school in 3 weeks , 9 month program just scratches the basics of the trade , im currently filling out an application for Arizona underwater welding school 7 month program it’s 26 k for everything, I need to know if this is going to take me far or if I should go start a pipe fitter apprenticeship, I’ve done so much research and I just wish I could talk to an underwater welder like yourself Nate . The podcast was very informative and I appreciate it but I need more knowledge before I make the huge investment. No dive experience but I’m so intrigued by this field of work and I have been for a few years , I’m honestly going to take the shot either way as I have no kids yet and I don’t want to waste time , I will be one of the 20 that break out I promise you that

What types of wire are used for underwater welding in numbers?
@maxschipper10573 жыл бұрын
thanks for this video
@davidjackson2115 Жыл бұрын
Good talk. It would make sense to have a safety wire basically like an anti static band for mosfets etc of piece of normal wire that connects both hands / wrist and this wire can even go around yr back so it dosent get in way, to save from any current going through yr heart. Thinking about it biggest problem might be people turning away from work to change out rod to see in light thereby causing chest to be in line of current in water. I would have thought you would have to heap the amps up for a start to water weld. As Simply experementing dry stick welding wet steel to see this concept I found I needed to up the amps to blow the water away, as its taking heat away like our bodies do in a sauna. Misrable clowns should give you ole laptop with no L-ion battery but dc cord. So welders come divers is best - so ex prisoner come diver - welder will be better As for A cat welding, Id say they have the Amps up high then maybe pulse / pause for cool down. As tempering metal after hardening to take brittleness out / making spring steel etc is something like 600 degree celsious reheat so it would be going along that line of thought. Thanks for info...

Can you recommend a good beginners book for oxy brazing and arc welding please, Thanks.

Most of us keep our diving helmets in hard cases such as the Pelican brand. Cheap plastic coolers are great, too! (They make a nice place to keep your beer on ice in the hotel room once you get to the job, too.) As far as all the other gear, like wet suits, boots, knives, etc., it can travel in a duffel. We do have to check our at the airport and I've seen many dive hats require expensive repairs as a result. That's typically the fault of a diver who half-assed packed his/ her gear.
