Jacob Shapiro you should listen to your recording on a mobile device. It's good sound quality but way too low. I am on max on my phone and it's just audible.

Discussion is quite good. The economic disparity among the member States within the European Union can be explained with raw data. You may draw aparallel between EU and USA and the only different is the number of member States. The balance of trade among member States in EU should be measured by the funding of each state to it's citizens on Food Stamps. Since most of the EU States budget on socio economic issues are high, find out for every Euro of Negative Trade defecit by Italy to the quantum of Euro spent on every italian citizen by it's government on Social Security including Food Stamps. Say for example Italy is one among the EU States and because of the Free Trade , Italian or for that matter any EU member State Economy should not be treated on stand alone basis as they had done with Greece. As regards exhibiting it's Political Clout by both France and Germany can be discerned by simply watching the State Funded TV in both the Ciuntries. Their adoption of Secular Policis can be measured by watching their international programme where their anchor mostly from the Sub continent exhorting the panelist- the secular communist writers from India, to raise their voice against the Right Wing Government led by Modi's BJP party in re writing Moghuls who invaded India and their History. May be to win the hearts and minds of the growing Arab Immigrants the French is acting more like the UK during the 80's.

Funny, you hear how innovative, prudent and hard working the German people are but that's not how anyone has ever described Italy, Spain, and Greece. I'm not saying they're bad people, on the contrary, what I am saying they are just different cultures and value different things and anyone who's visited these countries know this. If German's work 600 more hours a year than Italians it's going to add up over time. What's the employment rate in each country? Government employee's vs private sector? Demographics? If 30% of the population is retired living off of government benefits what do you expect?

Hi, Lombardy, the biggest Italian region is one of the most productive regions in this planet. The working ethics of Northern Italy is impeccable, nearly maniacal. No doubt that Germany is an outstanding country, probably with no matches in the world, but Italy too has remarkable production levels. Indeed, despite the stigma, Italy is the second manufacturer in Europe, after Germany, as one may easily guess.
