Quite funny questions answered to keep mosquitos away or attracting them - testing bananas and beer seem to attract mosquitos and bit B all kinds appeared to be ineffective ….. what a study 🙃

many years ago I heard that vitamin B Complex would keep the mosquitoes away so I took them for a couple of weeks before a camping trip. The mosquitoes still bit me but I didn't get the usual allergic reaction to the bite. In fact if I had not seen the little bugger biting me I would not have known. I have always been one of their favorite people and get big red welts when bitten.

What if we feed bananas to everyone else at the picnic? Would the mosquitos go after them instead of us?

there's been a few times where at lake we boat on regularly at certain times(once a year towards the end of summer for about a week) there are flies that appear similar if not exactly the same as the common house flies(so about 1/4 inch long or tiny bit bigger) BUT unlike any house fly i've ever been around these flies just bite bite bite any/all exposed skin and the deet(we get the 98 or 99% deet kind) does NOT work to repel nor does it seem to kill the things??!! BUT what we did find that worked to repel them was cinnamon oil. i just mixed some cinnamon essential oil with some coconut oil (i can't remember the exact amounts but if i had to guess was probably 1/4 cup of coconut oil and 10 or so drops of cinnamon oil then we just smeared it on whatever skin was showing) and it worked 100% to stop the flies from biting us/landing on us!! i did try to look at the recipes and there were lots of various recipes(some were just water and the cinnamon essential oil in a spray bottle!) and the cinnamon essential oil was't very expensive! i kinda doubt that just sprinkling cinnamon(spice used to bake) would work? BUT maybe? the concentrated cinnamon oil is just SOOO strong it's more like when it's christmas time and you walk into the store that has the cinnamon pine cones and it's SO cinnamony that you just almost can't even bare to walk past or thru that area...that's what the cinnamon essential oil is like in the bottle and so that's why you'd only want to put several drops into water/other oil that way it's diluted BUT this dilution will still be stronger than what i think anyone could get if just trying to use the powdered spice? but maybe the spice would be enough to repel the flies? guess it would make sense to try the spice first and if that doesn't work then get some cinnamon oil and make some rub or spray with it...

Ginger works great! Two data points. Having had ginger with my sushi in Costa Rica I was the only person not getting bitten when normally I am the Ist target.. Didnt figure out why until the next day when our two guides to a wild reserve in Costa Rica. I asked them why they are not putting on repellant. They said "you see this cup it has unsweetened ginger tea. Works for about 4 hrs. We will drink another cup at lunch & will also have no sweets like breakfast" since then found unsweeten ginger tea works but can't find unsweeten pickeled ginger in USA. Going 2 try Wasabi next time I have the need.

Horseradish is a root plant, while ginger is considered a rhizome plant, though it is often confused for a root plant. They are completely different species, with horseradish being part of the genus armoracia and ginger being part of the genus zingiber...so maybe the wasabi(which is made from horseradish) would work but just because ginger works doesn't necessarily mean horseradish will work they're two completely different plants/species/etc... powdered ginger is also sold as a spice in most grocery stores and whole ginger is usually found in the fresh produce section(it's the strange light brown root type looking thing a few inches long) in stores like walmart/aldis/giant eagle/etc in the usa(in aldi i know it's near/next to the potatoes)...i'm not sure but i would imagine there's a way to take the whole fresh ginger and make tea from that? probably grate it maybe dry it? and then make tea with it...i know plants don't always have to be dried in order to make teas, drying is just a good way to help preserve certain plants...but also like white tea/green tea/black tea are all made from the same plant but they turn out much differently from each other based on when the leaves area picked and dried...so i looked real quick and there are good recipes online for the ginger tea made from the whole ginger "root"...

I never got bitten by mosquitoes before I became vegan. One holiday my husband got bitten over 40 times in one night and I had not one single bite! Now I get bitten by everything. I tell myself it’s because my blood is nice and clean now and not clogged up with saturated fat 😂 My sister has had the exact same experience since becoming Vegan. Very strange!

do you mean something like vic's vapor rub? this makes me wonder about the wintergreen plant i know the "teaberries" and the leaves of the wintergreen plant are edible but there's much caution about concentrated wintergreen oil and how even a small amount can be toxic to humans if ingested but this makes me wonder IF there really is some mosquito repellent properties to the wintergreen is it just topically repellent or if one were to ingest teaberries or the leaves from the wintergreen plant if that would help repel mosquitos? also makes me wonder if eating the leaves of the citronella plant would have any repellency?

This title is click bait. The title suggests that the video is about repelling mosquitos. The speaker just goes on and on about food that doesn't repel mosquitoes.

'Nutrition' facts should give away why he focuses on food. Of all the claims in society centred around repelling mosquitoes, the 'real' science proves the majority of them to be just plain false, some are even the complete opposite.
