sorry for the super late reply but i finished this game recently with my partner and i genuinely have no clue. the writing in this game is generally solid but i think this is the one aspect about it that never made sense nor is it reflected on in the story for more than a line or two about how it's wrong they're killing her stuffed elephant? it felt completely out of place and out of character from the both of them

You said you were going to let us hear the end when it played but you never stopped talking to let us hear it. That being said it looked as though they got back together.
