Originally written as Leningrad Nights by Vasily Solovyov-Sedoi and Mikhail Matusovsky, it was changed to Moscow Nights at the request of the Soviet Ministry of Culture. The song gained in popularity through radio broadcasts during the 1950's and was originally performed by Vladimir Troshin making it one of the more recognizable Soviet melodies outside of the USSR.
