'Poetic of Machines' at 421

In this video, Nasir Nasrallah takes us through his solo exhibition at 421, titled “Poetic of Machines.”
The exhibition presents a mythical exploration of the relationship between humans and machines. Through a collection of intricate drawings, paintings, publications, textiles, and installations, the UAE-based artist takes us on a journey into a world of mechanical creatures that exist in an unknown space and time.
“Poetic of Machines” acts as a stage or a set where an unscripted narrative plays out, examining how this community of machines converses, communicates, and interacts, and exploring the potential for life in the so-called non-living, and vice versa. Nasrallah's depictions of machines are not merely mechanical; rather, he imbues them with personalities, emotions, and even a sense of humor.
Nasrallah is a recipient of the 2023 cycle of the 421 Artistic Development Program. “Poetic of Machines” is a result of the program which is organized in partnership with The Institute for Emerging Art.

About the artist
Nasir Nasrallah (b. 1984, Sharjah) founded the “Marsam Al Sahel” studio in 2019. He wrote the book "Creatures of Everyday Objects," which has been translated into Italian, and the book "The Story Converter," which documents an interactive art project by the same title. He has judged several competitions, such as the Etisalat Children's Book Award and the Children's Book Illustration Exhibition at the Sharjah Book Authority. He curated the 32nd session of the Emirates Fine Arts Society entitled "Untold Stories" and the 4th session of Sharjah Children's Biennial entitled "Questions" in 2014. In his current role at the Sharjah Art Foundation, he publishes every year the "Corniche" book of comics, which features experimental comics by over 35 regional artists.
For Nasir Nasrallah, making art is about experimenting with and synthesizing materials, be they physical objects, ideas, or theorems. His work is a response to his environment and the people and places he encounters. His work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Emirates Fine Arts Society, Sharjah (2011), and Sharjah Art Museum (2009). His work has also been shown in group exhibitions inside and outside the UAE, including Sharjah Biennial 11 (2013); Cairo Biennial (2006), and annual exhibitions of the Emirates Fine Arts Society (2005-present). In 2012, he participated in the (Artist in Residence) programme, a collaboration between Dubai Culture, Tashkeel, and the Delfina Foundation. He won first prize at the 30th Annual Exhibition, Emirates Fine Arts Society.

يقدم المعرض استكشافًا أسطوريًا للعلاقة بين البشر والآلات عبر تشكيلة متداخلة من الرسومات واللوحات والنصوص المكتوبة والمنسوجات والأعمال التركيبية، فيصحبنا الفنان في رحلة إلى عوالم من كائنات آلية تعيش في فضاء زمكاني مجهول.
يشكّل “شعرية الآلات” منصة أو مسرحاً مجهزاً لعرض سرديات مرتجلة تجسد روح التواصل والحوار والتفاعل بين مجتمع الآلات، في محاولة لالتماس حياة محتملة فيما لا روح فيه، والعكس بالعكس، فيشير بذلك إلى تأثير الآلات على حياتنا اليومية وعلاقتنا دائمة التجدد مع هذه الكائنات الآلية.
شارك نصرالله في دورة 2023 من برنامج التطوير الفني الذي ينظمه مجمع 421 للفنون بالشراكة مع معهد الفن الناشئ.

عن الفنان
ناصر نصر الله فنان إماراتي من مواليد الشارقة عام 1984م، أسس مرسم الساحل عام 2019، كما ألف كتاب "مخلوقات الأشياء اليومية" المترجم إلى الإيطالية، وكتاب "محول القصص" الذي يوثق مشروعاً فنياً تفاعلياً يحمل العنوان ذاته. شارك نصر الله في العديد من لجان التحكيم كجائزة اتصالات لكتاب الأطفال، ومعرض رسوم كتب الأطفال في هيئة الشارقة للكتاب. قيّم ناصر معرض جمعية الإمارات للفنون التشكيلية في دورته 32 تحت عنوان "قصص لم تحكَ بعد"، والدورة الرابعة من بينالي الشارقة للأطفال بعنوان "أسئلة" في عام 2014. نشر خلال منصبه الحالي في مؤسسة الشارقة للفنون كتاب "كورنيش" للكوميك، والذي يتضمن رسوماً هزلية تجريبية لأكثر من 35 فناناً من المنطقة.
تنطلق صناعة الفن بالنسبة لنصر الله من منظور تجريبي ومادي، سواء عبر أغراض، أو أفكار أو نظريات فعلية، وتعبّر أعماله عن انشغاله ببيئته المحيطة، واهتمامه بالأشخاص الذين يقابلهم، والأماكن التي يزورها. أقام الفنان عدة معارض فردية منها في جمعية الإمارات للفنون التشكيلية في الشارقة (2011)، ومتحف الشارقة للفنون (2009)، كما شارك في معارض جماعية داخل وخارج الدولة بما في ذلك بينالي الشارقة 11 (2013)، وبينالي القاهرة (2006)، والمعارض السنوية لجمعية الإمارات للفنون التشكيلية (2005-لتاريخه). شارك في عام 2012 في برنامج (الفنان المقيم) الذي يقام بالتعاون بين دبي للثقافة ومؤسسة تشكيل ومؤسسة دلفينا، وفاز بالجائزة الأولى في المعرض السنوي الثلاثين لجمعية الإمارات للفنون التشكيلية.
قيّم نصر الله معرض "قصص لم تُحكَ بعد"، المعرض السنوي الثاني والثلاثون لجمعية الإمارات للفنون التشكيلية (2014)، والدورة الرابعة لبينالي الشارقة للأطفال تحت عنوان "أسئلة" (2014)، كما شغل منصب نائب رئيس جمعية الإمارات للفنون التشكيلية لمدة ست سنوات (2006-2012).
حاصل على درجة البكالوريوس في هندسة الاتصالات من جامعة خليفة.
