Without doubt, Louise was spectacularly good looking. What I find most endearing amongst her facial features though, notwithstanding her beautiful dark eyes and perfect nose, are her lips and smile. She has the most beautiful smile I've ever seen. Literally the perfect smile!!!

The most hauntingly beautiful woman ever committed to celluloid. Her emotions change so quickly, like light and shadow on a stormy spring morning. I am writing a fantasy novelette which features an older Louise and a young film history student. I hope I can do her justice.

I don't agree. She wasn't a bigger star because she wouldn't play the game in order to be a bigger star. She was way too intelligent and independent and she was really good at burning bridges. You might call her self-destructive- but that's what happens when you're in a different world than everyone else. And our current era is so brain-dead, I don't think she would have stood it for a minute.

@poeticjustice2345: This an excellent visual tribute to Louise. She was THE face of the Roaring Twenties flapper. But more importantly, from my perspective, is the fact she truly epitomized the independent woman. She traded her acting career for the sake of her self respect. Early on she was in three movies that explored the more lurid side of a woman's sexuality. Given her childhood abuse, and the way she was used by movie execs, she never had a lasting, loving, relationship with a man. And she didn't give a shit about it either. Though she was unfairly criticized for her voice by one movie exec (he would not support her career in the new "talkies"), she had a wonderful rich voice. I personally found it highly attractive. If you have a chance to add the black and white clip of her dancing the Shimmy at one of the famous New York speakeasies at the time please do. THAT was sexy a heck.

She is a natural charmer who was perfectly cast in Pandora’s Box. She may have been the first modern actress. Her charm worked off screen too as she apparently had many liaisons with both men and women. It’s a terrible tragedy that she was denied the career she deserved.
@HerAeolianHarp
@HerAeolianHarp 5 жыл бұрын
I have always loved watching her on screen. She is so vibrant and so modern as to feel among us. Then I discovered Colleen Moore, whose lighthearted charm and soulful romance make Louise look more hedonistic and superficial. Louise was a smart woman. She wasn’t ever really a warm one. Unfortunately, MOMA mishandled Colleen’s films, letting many disintegrate. That’s why today nobody seems to know much about Colleen’s work, and her success as the biggest box office draw of 1926 and I think 1927, too. Both actresses are worth following. Both were beautiful. Both were trendsetters, most especially Colleen, whose bobbed hair was widely copycatted. Colleen’s clothes and makeup were also widely emulated. She was the original flapper in “Flaming Youth”. Colleen was a witty writer, too, whose autobiography “Silent Star” gives wonderful details about the early days of Hollywood.

@909chuck Wow, 90% are gone? I've been into B&W movies for a few years now and I never knew this figure. I guess this is one occasion that you can't say, ''You can't miss what you never knew''. Maybe we should just be very grateful we have what we do have. Growing up, whenever I saw an old movie it was often difficult to sit through because of the hiss in the sound and faded scratched up images. Now you can watch any 1930's movie in what looks like a perfect picture and the sound is excellent.
