I teach this similarly in that I have students look at multisyllable words first because their stresses are rigid. Do you think your kids can hear the stress?

Good but I don't agree withe the statement "three and a half" feet in that second poem. Wouldn't it make more sense to say the line is trochaic except for the last foot which is an amphimacer?? Or point out the use of a caesura which breaks the flow and the makes it tetrameter as a caesura is considered its own foot?
