Poinciana and King Parrots - Watercolour

My new commission 'Poinciana and King Parrots' measures 31x44 cms in size and is rendered in watercolour. This intricate piece is a real challenge to create, not just because of the complexity, but because the colours are particularly incompatible to work with. You know I love a challenge, and detail! Really this is me in my element, just playing with magic amongst its complexity and challenge. This clip shows the first steps of this paintings creation, from drawing to the beginnings of the first parrot. Her tail feathers feature gorgeous blues and greens with tinges of purple and pink, perfectly marrying it to the surrounds... yet to come! Theres lots of work to go before calling this one complete but I hope you enjoy following along, starting with this first instalment! Enjoy

Finally someone who loves to draw parrots. Can you draw a purple crown lorikeet or a princess parrot?

Your work is beautiful! As an aid to accuracy, do you convert photographic images to sketch using software then transfer onto paper? The images are more detailed and complex than most people are able to sketch freehand, particularly the foliage detail. Thank you!

Hi Lesley, thank you :) yes my drawing and all my work is more complex than most... its just how I am naturally drawn to work and how I like it to be so I am always pursuing excellence in that regard.
