Fun fact, the Trolley Problem is actually created by a lack of failsafes in the brake system, meaning a lack of management on the part of the trolley line company! Meaning your choice means nothing as it's not your fault people are going to die. To expound, the trolley should have brakes. If the brakes are not pulled, or there is nobody to pull them, it's the conductor's fault. If the brakes are broken, that means it's the fault of whoever let the brakes fail a safety check. That's not even getting into why there are people on the track in the first place. This is a very abridged version of a Tumblr post I saw talking about it.

I like how the first problem is like "Get involved and reduce the total kill count or let more people die?" and chat is like "MAXIMIZE KILL COUNT!" The trolly question is one of the most bull moral quandaries I've ever seen created. Its a damned if you do, damned if you don't kind of scenario that just goes to show that morality is way more complicated than binary/black and white scenarios. If you don't involve yourself, you just let 5 people die and if you do involve yourself, you basically killed someone and put a value on life through sacrificing the one to save the many. I say F it. We are all trying our best on this mudball we call home and this moral quandary has no right answer. Any choice you make is the right choice if it follows your conscience at the time, moral implications be damned. The idea that moral philosophy can find a "right" answer in this scenario or any scenario like it is ludicrous. (The real right answer outside that bubble is to try and stop the trolley in some way, like pull the lever center so that the trolley actually collides with the fork in the tracks, jam the trolleys wheels, etc. Many real world scenarios aren't entirely binary in nature and we can come up with solutions beyond the most obvious or immediate.)

This is a great example of deindividuation in psychology. Being anonymous when making a decision generally makes people pick the worse option
@Troxico99 Жыл бұрын
That depends on how you classify the "right" or "wrong" options, for example in this case chat wasnt actually killing nor harming anyone, in fact maximizing killcount is hilarious and would lead to a more entertaining experience to watchers of the stream ans video, being arguably the best option since its the one with the best outcome. I believe anonymity only starts to make people to choose the worse option when they are bound to lose something if they best one, and since anonymity shields them from social loses then they choose the worst option, but the difference in reason its quite significant, not choosing the right answer for benefits is bad but its way better than not choosing it just because, with no apparent reason
