I'm sad i stopped ballet after starting when i was 5. I asked my mom why and she said that the ballet school i used to go towas too far so i stopped then came back last year when i was a new student at my school. They have ballet classes there which was so cool and i stopped again when they started teaching modern ballet. Then this year, now that i like various dancing styles, i won't quit ballet anymore. And i'm goinng to move to another ballet school so that i can get classes without any cancellations. The trial classes start on dec. 19. Wish me luck!!!

Everyone is saying that you need to have pointe shoes after 2 years of practice. I did 2 years of practice 5 years ago, and I’m starting ballet again next year. Does that count?
@ltp48176 жыл бұрын
You need to do ballet for at least another 2years to be able to get pointe shoes
@sofieweber87906 жыл бұрын
You don’t need 2 years of ballet practice to go on pointe. It depends on your foot strength, balance, teacher and age. I got pointe shoes after just half a year of practice, and that was because I started at 14 years old so my joints just needed some work. Just remember to always have a ballet teachers approval:)
@kyliee85864 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, it has been too long since you have done ballet again. You could get seriously injured if you don’t have enough strength and training. No good instructor would put you en pointe immediately again after not dancing that long. After not dancing for a while, you lose the strength that you had when you were training. Just keep training and be sure to get a good instructor! They will let you know when it is time for you to go en pointe again. Best of luck to you!

Look, get assessed, don't listen to people who talk about 'time'. That is an antiquated measure of pointe shoe readiness. Only old school jealous hag ballet world clingons still push the time frame measure. If you are L2 or above, you could be ready depending on your turnout/strength overall.

I'm really upset that I can't learn ballet since i'm 15 and a little bit on the chubby side and i'm currently losing some weight but if ever can I teach myself ballet at home? Like the basics? And if I get good I wanna get proper ballet class but if i were to move up like to pointe shoes i don't think i can afford it 😭
@kellyphilbin58236 жыл бұрын
It does not matter what size you are. Go and try a class or two and see if you like it. I started this year and I am 17 and definitely on the chubby side. If you look up ballet workouts and basics it will help strengthen your muscles and grow your confidence. And if you make it to pointe good job but it takes a lot of strength and training. Just try and maybe you will have away to earn money and save for pointe shoes. Also don’t worry if you are not at or near a level of the kids around you the teacher should just be happy you are there to learn,she or he will get you up to speed as fast as they can and you learn, and you will make friends. My teacher has said that when your older you push yourself harder because you want see results and they come a little quicker because we know how to control our bodies a little better. Good luck set goal and try and achieve it!

If you want to start dancing go for it! I am quite chubby and am still losing weight. I started dance when I was younger then stopped for a few years and went back to it when I was around 13. @bmcn54566 жыл бұрын
most local dance schools have classes for teenagers. if you think they will laugh at you (which i don’t think they will) that is all the more of a reason to do it and completely prove them wrong! If you don’t think your flexibility is that great do a couple of stretches a few times a week and you will improve!! :)

You can start ballet at any age! You just have to be okay with not being as good as other people your age and even people younger than you. It can be kind of embarrassing to be in a class with people a several years younger than you, but if you can get past that initial fear and focus on yourself and your own progression, not comparing yourself to others, you're good to go. If you're hoping to pursue a ballet career, the odds of it happening are low, but I believe anything is possible with hard work and perseverance. I'll just warn you as a vet that ballet is extremely difficult, and at times it feels like you'll never get any better, but its so rewarding and so so fun, you just have to accept that it takes quite a bit of time to get where you want to be. Good luck!!

From reading the comments, I can tell this is probably an unpopular opinion, but I really don't like those shoes on her! She has gorgeous arches and they are making them look like total biscuits!
@dancingdaily15496 жыл бұрын
Gemma Sherman The arches are the least important thing in your pointe shoes. If there is a shoe that shows off your arches but has a tendency to roll over, the fitter will not recommend that shoe. So a ballerina who has flexible feet might have a shoe making their foot look straight.
@gemmaryan50956 жыл бұрын
Dancing Daily a good shoe should be supportive and accentuate the dancer’s arch. If a dancer has very flexible feet and the shoe makes the feet look straight, that’s a sign of poor fit and can actually cause connective tissue injuries such as plantar fasciitis because the arch is not supported. This puts a lot of extra pressure on the toes, bunions, and bunionettes, and compresses the metatarsals, which can tear ligaments, damage cartilage, and cause a lot of stress fractures. A dancer should be able to stay fully on their box without rolling over the front, but the shoe should fit snugly against the arch (as well as every other part of the foot.) It looks to me like these shoes have the same strength throughout the whole arch, which can be a problem for someone with flexible feet. There should be a spot that’s slightly softer and more flexible where the shank with “break” and actually support the foot more. She could probably bend these with her hands and then possibly jet glue the spot to reinforce it and it would fit her better.
@gemmaryan50956 жыл бұрын
Dancing Daily they’re not too bad on her but her foot is falling out of the front of the shoe which shows that she needs a better fit.

We never had this in-depth - they ask what size and go from that point. different states, different vendors. You need a video on how to spot sucky point shoe fitters. What questions to ask so you know to exit stage left and find someone else. They are NOT created equally.

Pointe Shoe World Ah I live in the UK as well and I was wondering if you'd be able to suggest where I could buy a pair of good quality pointe shoes (I'm an absolute beginner but I want to try pointe to improve my figure skating.)
@MM-gz6gv7 жыл бұрын
hi , yes , well i went to Dancia in Drury lane Covent garden . they were very nice and i got my first pair of pointe shoes from them , i would recommend them as they have a HUGE selection of brands , from freed bloch capezio and grishko to less know brands such as merlet ( which are mine) they were very patient and helpful when fitting my fist pair of pointe shoes. if you do go in there , learn the basic steps such as releve , fist position second postion and parallel as if you say you dont do ballet they may not let you buy them ( im not sure though) , i hope this was helpful , just to add pointe shoes are very expensive !! they can range from 30 upwards , they will ask what type of pads you like , dont just go for the ouch pouches ask to maybe try silicone ones or lambs wool as i find them better also wear ballet tights or socks as if you dont they will give you standard ballet socks to try them with , if you want to try with tights then maybe go there wearing convertible ones !! i hope this helps and if you have anymore questions please ask as im obsessed with pointe and would love to help !! let me know what shoes you get and how your experience was :) have fun

Hi Haveen, going on pointe is an incredibly skilled exercise. And doing so without the correct muscle development, strength and technical training can be very risky! Without having learned how to safely go en pointe you could easily damage your feet or the ligaments and tendons that support your feet, sprain your ankle, or cause other traumas. We would hate to see you get injured, so we recommend not buying pointe shoes without having pre-pointe training first. Why not by some flat ballet shoes to teach yourself moves in instead? :) www.energetiks.com.au/ballet-shoe-canvas-split-sole x Energetiks

@girlinthestars6 жыл бұрын
To go on pointe is a major accomplishment for many dancers that have worked very hard to get up there. For me it took me until I was 12 to get mine. That’s 10 years of experience. You have to develop the correct muscles and get the right training in order to receive them. You also need an instructor to guide you. It’s a very dangerous activity, without the proper experience or knowledge it’s easy to get yourself extremely hurt. For example, breaking an ankle or straining muscles. So, I suggest to take some classes and see what your instructor says, I’m sure you’ll do great!
