Pointless Top 10: Kodos in World of Warcraft

Being a Tauren main, I've always been fascinated with Kodos. So much so, that when they made them tameable along with other Scalehides in Legion, I race changed my Hunter into a Tauren Hunter and tamed all variants. I never clicked on a video faster, thank you for this one, Crendawg!

I legit got teary eyed when I first was questing through cata un'goro and I found Dadanga's grave. Didnt realized I cared about a "pointless" kodo so much until then.

I actually pumped a fist in the air in triumph when I saw Dadanga was #1. She was the first one I thought of when I saw the title. I spent a LOT of time in Un'Goro in vanilla, farming herbs and morrowgrain for Darnassus rep (because I wanted a tiger mount but my main was human) so I knew Dadanga well and fed her all the time. R.I.P. (except for those three days a year when your ghost comes out). ;)

Nice video, but I feel you missed the Frightened Kodo from Darkshore. During the warfront event on Darkshore, Horde soldiers used a kodo to transport goods, and were ambushed by Malfurion. Malfurion kills most of the soldiers, but the kodo runs off frightened. There's even a cinematic for this. Players can then find the Frightened Kodo in Darkshore as a rare spawn. As a rare, it will run around all frightened. Players can soothe the kodo, at which point it will calm down and walk up to you, and become a mount. It's a really cool mount. A kodo with no armor, available for both Horde and Alliance players. Edit: The cinematic is called: Terror of Darkshore

I know they're canonically referred to as reptiles but I guess I've always thought of them more as a sort of big prehistoric mammal, they remind me more of like...a rhino, since they can have fur and their hides seem like that tough leathery sort of hide rather than lizard scales

I didn't realize kodos were supposed to be reptiles until right now. That's so dumb! They're CLEARLY inspired by rhinos, or ancient, excinct giant mammals. I mean, look at the cloven toes, much like rhinos or elephants, the nose-horns, and the criss-crossed pattern on their thick hides.

Dadanga's fate was the saddest, we had to withness, when Azeroth got revamped with Cata. I did not care about most guys dying, like the Scarlet Representatives at Light's Hope. But Dadanga.... Also, while he might be gone, you can still place the plants on his grave as a tribute.

Nah, the saddest was Blanchy's. Rip that horse! Blanchy also has way more lore, since we met young Blanchy, adult Blanchy and Old Blanchy through the game, the first 2 in the caverns of time. Blanchy took part in many cornerstone moments of Warcraft! Dadanga was just standing there the whole time. Edit. also don't forget ghost Blanchy in the shadowlands and we even got it as a mount... and it can fly!

I love Kodos! I played and Undead, and I remember grinding rep with Thunderbluff with the sole purpose of being able to purchase a Kodo mount. When I finally reached exhalted and bought my first Kodo mount, that was one of the happiest days in my WoW life.

I remember getting my kodo mount for the first time and to me it was the coolest thing ever. I didn't care that other higher level players had more powerful gear and faster mounts, my kodo was the best kodo of them all lol.

The Legend of Zelda reference of Dodongo wasn't just something mentioned in the game, it was the 2nd boss in the original NES game that had to be defeated using bombs (hence the smoke clue)

As a huge fan of Taurens, I really love kodos. It was a big deal in Classic when I saved up enough to get my fast-riding Kodo mount, complete with the war drums and so forth. Even if I couldn't fit it through most doors. Conversely, I was actually pretty disappointed in Cata when the "warhorse" for Tauren Paladins had the silly tribal paint that looked like somebody had tagged it with graffiti. I was really hoping they would make a classic paladin warhorse in kodo form: a shining white kodo with a flowing mane, shiny gold horns, and fancy-looking saddle/barding in horde red. Sigh. (Now the zandalari paladin mount I can get behind)
