Excellent advice! I recently visited a walk-in clinic with a serious case of dermatitis, and the NP prescribed a 6-day dosepack of steroid. Just as you said, the dermatitis reappeared after the 6th day. Now I'm taking a 15-day course. Had I watched this video sooner, I would have saved myself a lot of hassle and itching.

Got ivy the 3rd time in 4 years, this time not from the leaves but from the vine that stick together in Christmas Tree that I cut. I just know that the vine will show a black line on its perimeter if you cut it. I agree with you, my weight is 160 lbs, the 1st doctor gave me 4mg prednisone for 6 days in 21 tablets and the rash comes again even more on day 6th. Go to another clinic on day 9th, the doctor gave me 10mg prednisone for 18 days in 63 tablets. Now on the day 13th I can say I feel nearly fully recovered, hope the dosage will not too much or less. Topical just momentarily work, I used these brands : Calamine oil, Tecnu, Ivarest, Calagel, Tricalm . Next time I'll try the Clobetasol Foam like what you said, hope I never have it for the rest of my life. Thank you very much for sharing the information about the treatment.

here in mexico you have a tree in the yucatan peninsula wich is called by the mayans as the chechen it also contains the same toxic substance as ivy, oak or sumac.. and right beside it grows the chaca.. wich has the antidote to the toxine.. it really heals and recovers pretty fast from it.. in english the curing tree goes under the name of gumbo limbo, west indian birch, copper wood tree, tourist tree... might want to look into that.. wat they do it use a mixing bowl and crunch leaves and the pull the bark of of it and remove some kind of jelly and mix it all up creating a slimy mix that you can appy direct on skin and wrap with a cloth and keep on.. really help and cures much faster. something you might want to look into.. hope this is good gives you more posibilities..

Running the itchy area under barely tolerable hot water makes the itch burn. After that, relief for a hour or two. Repeat to get through it. I think the heat stimulates histamines to cause the burning itch. After the histamine is released at once, it has to build up again, so relief? Not sure if the histamine science is true, but this was the only way I found relief from blisters all over my arms. Oil from plain English Ivy gives me the same blistering rash as poison ivy. Maybe really cold water does the same thing, but I found the hot water works better for me. Have rid my property of most ivy now, but I still have to get rid of some. I got severe burns from gathering piles of freshly chopped English Ivy on a hot day with bare arms. I had hacked and handled it for years before the allergic reaction. Now I get burned from any oil contact. Wash thoroughly with a wash cloth and soap if you suspect contact with the oil. Don’t get the water treatment so hot it burns you though!

The only diy remedy I've found (and I've tried about 12) is hot water, as hot as I can stand it. I know, I know, I read not to do that and that it causes it to spread blah blah blah, but, it worked for me. It completely relieves the itching for 4 or 5 hours. Then I just do it again until it runs its course. Easy peasy.

I've been doing that forever, it won't spread as long as you don't scratch it, I also put hydrocortisone cream on it right after. I have it right now not sure which one it is.

Kinda sad, because at 15 years old I was a landscaper and got PI regularly. The doctors at the walk in clinic said I need to find a new profession as I got it really bad as I landscaped. I am sure they wont do this anymore because poison ivy is big business for doctors. I went to an allergist that gave me a vial of poison ivy oil and caplets. I had directions with an eye dropper with a number of dropletes each day. For 40 years I never got poison ivy again.

It seems a little late in the year...but I have it on my hands. I have always used bleach too and found it to be the best, however, this time I am mixing salt and water. Please with the results. 🤗 It appears I got it from putting on an old pair of gloves. I know for a fact that the last time I used the gloves was over six (6) years ago. Just wondering how long the oils from these plants remains contaminated on other objects.

We have tried everything. He's 4 and you can see on his face that he's so tired of itching. The other day he broke down crying saying why itching.... he's been on steroid creams and liquids and shots and two different antihistamines and we do wet cool compresses but they dry the skin.

I feel for your son and have been in the same situation myself. While I realize this happened three years ago, hopefully you can use this for any future issues. The oil is very sticky. It will stick to clothes. That includes shoes. If your son is wearing shoes with the oil on them, he will end up getting oil on his hands every time he puts on his shoes. The same if he had oil on his clothes and sat on a chair. I came across a home remedy to relieve the itch that works. Hot water. In the shower, use as hot water as you can stand for as long as you can without scalding yourself. Using a hand held shower head works best. Just hold the hot water stream on the affected parts of the body. You will feel the most intense itch; almost a pain. The longer you can hold out, the more itch leaves. Depending on the severity and the time you held the hot water on the rash, you can get up to two hours of itch free relief for a serious rash. if the rash is near ended, that can be a six hour relief. If the rash is confined to the hands and wrists, maybe just using the kitchen sink will work. Remember, take care not to scald yourself.

@@alanmcentee9457this has been working for me. Nearly 3/4 of my right arm is covered in a rash haha. Even Tecnu recommends this technique. I may have burned myself a bit, so do be careful. It becomes very itchy, but it also feels like it's being scratched so it's a unique sensation that's amazing and annoying. I work outside for about 9 hours a day and most days that I've done this method, I haven't had too much trouble with itchiness while in the job. It's a pretty bad rash, too. As to the repeat rashes, there's videos around about avoiding these breakouts. Mostly, scrub everywhere that may have contacted the plant with a damp cloth (and soap of really any kind) within a couple hours of exposure. Think car grease but invisible. 3 times to be safe. Friction seems to be the most important part, not the fancy Tecnu soap or whatever.

I have had some MAJOR rashes with poison ivy. I use clobetsol propionate and the tiniest amount applied a couple times a day makes very serous rashes go away in about 2-4 days. I have also found flushing the site with hot water alleviates itching -- if you get itchy, flush the site with hot water. While the skin is still most from the hot water, spread on about 1/10th of a gram of the 0.05% ointment to the rash sites and about 5-7 applications is all I ever needed. Clobetasol propionate 0.05% is an absolute miracle. Don't settle for less.

@@BelleMeadeDerm Question please: I went to a clinic for posion ivy on both my arms and they prescribed me with Prednisone 4 pills for 5 days. My rashes started to flare up in the heat. Should I go back and ask for another dosage? What's should I use as a topical solution as well? Thank you!

When I was around 10 or so I was very susceptible to poison ivy and sumac. Somehow I got the notion of preventing this. Early summer, I found some ivy and tore off a piece the size of a dime and ate it. I am NOT recommending anyone try that. But for 30 years I never caught it again. HOWEVER after that I would again occasionally get it again.

If I get a poison ivy rash, I grind up vit B6 to a very fine powder with a mortar and pestle, then mix to a moist paste with liquid vit E (or olive oil). I rub this into the rash several times daily. Almost immediate relief.

Otherwise known as a Medrol Dose Pack. As discussedvin the video, six days you get better, then it runs out and the rash comes right back. Experienced doctors prescribe 12 days of prednisone, similar to the prednisolone 6 day dose pack, but without the rebound recurrence.

37027rides ...... I saw the video and right now I’m on one pack. I’ll see what happens, see if the Doc is right about getting another pack. My friend had poison ivy and one pack did the trick. We shall see.

Very clumsy explanation from an MD. Let's say for whatever reason, you can't identify poison ivy and you get exposed to it. Since you can't identify it, then it's automatic that you are going to suffer the results which takes time to manifest itself and by the time it does, YOU STILL don't know that it was poison ivy that caused it. I'm a desert dweller. I can tell you everything you wanted to know about cactus but were afraid to ask. I had recurring nasty, ugly rashes that looked like my skin was melting and finally I figured out it was due to a plant that looked like any other weed to me. THE CURE IS LEARNING HOW TO IDENTIFY THE DAMN PLANT. If you don't learn how to do that then you are going to become a prednisone junkie. It's that simple. Also the doctor knows nothing about the plant, just how to cure the exposure. Poison ivy is fine until you INJURE the plant, then it releases an oil. The oil is in every part of the plant, the leaf, stem, root - EVERY PART. If you don't injure the plant, then you won't get any of the oil on you. If you do, it can be removed by various methods BEFORE the oil gets absorbed by your skin. Etc, etc, etc. I learned all of this on youtube and nothing from this doctor that I didn't already know.
