POISON SPRAY | It Should Poison, But It Doesn't - Spell A Day D&D 5E +2

Alrighty day 257! Today is Poison Spray. Why doesn't this have the poison condition tied to it? Or have a small cone or area? A range of only 10ft, what's with that? Also yes there was a screw up in displaying the spells later levels at the start.

Every time I look at this cantrip I always thinks its going to give the poisoned condition and then I read it. Afterwards I wipe it from my brain until I'm looking for ways to cause the poisoned condition again and I get disappointed all over.

Compared with Toll The Dead: if it isn't the first hit, they deal the same damage, but the other isn't nearly as commonly resisted, and has much more range, and has a wisdom save instead. Constitution is fine against back liners sometimes, but with a 10ft range it's not that great for it.

As is, I'd rate it a 0/10. Targets CON and is poison. Con saves are generally good on mobs and poison is, if not the most resisted, the second most resisted damage type. And all the reasons Zac listed.

This spell just screams bad gamedesign as even true strike is better than this because true strike was for a long time the only damage increasing cantrip so there were some synergy with war mage but of course XGE must include the only other damaging cantrip with concentration in the same book. Still there is some synergy. This spell has nothing going for it except being a transmute spell target for wizards and still there is infestation from the XGE to remove even this use. This is a none existing spell. 1/10 is generous. Have a nice day AEther

Homebrew the heck out of this spell. 2 ways to go with this spell 1 power it up on range and change the save roll. 2 more range and let them choose the type of poison. Damage , sleep, slow, and some others

Maybe add your spellcasting modifier to it as damage and increase its range up to 20-30 ft. That way could be a good damage cantrip, but only against the propper creature(?)

Yeah not that good. If it was a line or a cone or every creature in an area. Definitely should give the poisoned condition for a round. I have never even considered this spell. Even when I was build up a "poison master" type of character. Even if you want to stick to a theme this spell would actively be detrimental to any build you are going for because it eats up a precious cantrip slot. Yeah sure cantrips can be use with only the action to use them but if you take this then you can't take another cantrip that would be actually useful.

Poor poison. Nothing good ever. This spell is just bad. It has literally no niche. The damage die is the best, but the range is terrible, it has arguably the worst damage type, no poison condition, no rider, what is considered the worst save for players to try to use against monsters, and no damage at all on a save. Never take this spell. 1/10
