The Pokemon in Sword/Shield appear to have just as much work put into their animations. Just because the animations in Revolution last longer doesn't make them better. It's just a looped walk cycle for a few seconds, then the Pokemon VAGUELY moves in a way that looks like it's attacking. I'm amazed people give Sword/Shield shit for the animation. "Scorbunny doesn't even kick when using Double Kick!" So fucking what? Neither did literally anything in X/Y, ORAS, or Sun/Moon. Also, weird how the anti-Sword/Shield folks are usually the same type to praise the earlier DS games, given there were no attack animations at all. The sprites just stood there as attacks were totally separate from their bodies. Do you HONESTLY expect them to full animate EVERY attack for EVERY Pokemon that can learn it? That's insane. No amount of money or manpower can do that. On top of that, they already said Pokemon Sword/Shield isn't their priority. Like it or not, game companies can prioritize what they want. And if they want to work on something more than Pokemon, Pokemon's gonna get a shorter end of the stick. That doesn't mean it's going to be bad. You try having over a dozen unique IP's and try to please everyone while balancing all of them by making new and fresh games for each one every year. Tell me how easy it is.

It's one of the few things this game does right, that and Hyper Beam. In Collosseum and XD Wailord had to be made smaller, but he still wasn't dwarfed as much as he was in Sun and Moon. Collosseum and XD also had beautiful animation for moves like Frenzy Plant and Hydro Cannon

I think the switch pokemon game battles should be like this with updated graphics. I used to love this game as a kid because it allowed me to see my pokemon in 3D. I don't really like the 3D models on the 3DS though. These ones might be a little blocky but I like the way flying types aren't constantly hovering in place and the colours of the pokemon are more vibrant.

Here's what i found someone say on a game forum. It may answer your question "Agreed with FuzzyJello, the battles themselves were never something people didn't like about PBR. What people don't like is that the RPG mode from Colosseum/XD wasn't carried over and the content is generally sparse. All you do in this game is battle and with only slightly different rule-sets most of the time so it can get stale fast since its essentially a worse Battle Frontier most of the time. Each colosseum needs repeated plays just to get a decent challenge (ranks 1-7 are usually extremely easy) and then you notice that each colosseum basically has a limited pokemon pool the opponents draw from so the variety is bad for repeated plays. PBR is only getting recognition now because people are only looking at its graphics and animations in comparison to Sword & Shield, not its gameplay which is the part people didnt like. "

I swear Dusty is the hardest Pokémon trainer to battle in all of Pokémon games. It seriously took me *SEVEN* tries to beat him. He has a high chance of picking Vigoroth and Gabite for his team. If he picks those two, you may as well reset because he always gets critical hits and attacks always miss him. I remember beating him, and it was so satisfying.

@@Matthew-mo7wh STUPID like I said it ONLY has battling and at that time it was gen 4 GEN 4 we are on gen 8 we are on the gen 2x away from when battle revolution was created and plus it had fewer tms and moves in general now take into account that one pokemon has 58 moves for maybe 800+ to 1000+ pokemon including evolution different forms etc that would be 58,000 individual special animations for EACH POKEMON FOR EACH MOVE what gamefreak does now is one or two designated special or physical move animation/s for each attack except a move where a broad number of pokemon can learn it or just some moves that wouldn't have made sense (like a special attack animation on tail whip) so instead they just take the model and rotate it or have a base animation set like that for specific moves like again tail whip or double kick or z moves (that are not signature) and plus open world features and all that and lets not forget its not JUST animations its full-on thousand lines of code for what could be one small insignificant cutscene theres so much more but typing it out I would turn to bones and dust before I could click the reply button

This game, on the Wii of all things, has better graphics than Sword and Shield, and the animations aren't even in the same ball park. This game was made by a small team with very little budget in comparison. Nintendo throws all of its money at Gamefreak to make a Pokemon game and they just cash in, cut corners, and expect it to sell based on the name alone without making any improvements. In fact, compared to this, the quality has dropped drastically. They cut the Pokedex because animating them was too much work for their giant company apparently, and the graphical fidelity is shit. The animations are shit. Pokemon is going down the drain...
