And then in Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon when you think he has already peaked in villainy, he goes one step further by not only repeating his initial plan to manipulate even Giovanni, but Ghetsis outright harms Lillie and handles his loss very poorly by blackmailing the protagonist to release his/her Pokémon.

The thing that made Ghetsis a true villain and really scary was when in B2W2 he tried to hurt the player character, and then has a mental break down from failing. Or at least that is how I felt from it.

I agree. I mean, I've always seen Ghetsis as this unstable, mildly off-the-deep-end old fool. Stomping over everything little obstacle just to reach his goal. In Black 2 and White 2, that hunched over pose and the way he constantly struck the ground with his cane just further proved that Ghetsis' mind was no longer completely there. I mean, just listen to this music. It perfectly depicts the chaotic, volatile creature that is Ghetsis.

Agreed. He's a remarkably well-conceived character and a truly phenomenal villain. His utter vileness, if you will, really added the emotional torque needed to make defeating him feel not just like an accomplishment as a player, but as something that was truly important. I mean, you usually WANT to defeat the bad guy in a game, but rarely do you feel an emotional NEED to. I've been a Pokemon fan since 1998, and I was EXTREMELY pleased when GameFreak was able to pull this off at last.

Let's not forget that we have a bit of extra story to go on with him. Everything he made N go through; literally picking off a random/abandoned child to use him as a puppet in the near future and then completely insulting him for failing, using other people's feelings to follow him/evil dictator, and then giving one big giant middle finger 2 years later going on a rampage destroying/freezing homes in ice that can't be melted and then trying to attempting to kill the player. Evil dude is evil.

Good lord, it's like Nintendo is seeing how utterly EVIL they can make a villain and yet retain an E rating. Ghetsis has gone from a child-abusing, highly calculating and completely sociopathic schemer to a mass-murdering terrorist that trys to impale you with icicles. Even monsters like the ice horror Kyurem and his pet Hydreigon fear him. Ganondorf, Porky, kriffing Ripley...just try to find someone as nightmarishly(and realistically) evil as Ghetsis. And it makes him AWESOME

But he couldnt exactly leave the Hero alone. Had he avoided the hero any longer than he/she could have become a much larger threat than he/she already was. Ghetsis confronted the Hero because he needed to break him there. It just backfired due to him not realizing how strong the hero actually was.
