My favorite is Squirtle, but Bulbasaur is a close second (that is for the Kanto starters)

Bulbasaur can beat the first 2 gyms Ivysaur can beat the next 3 and Venusaur can beat the rest and elite four, charmander has the best move set with fire ball being overpowered, Squirtle is only good for Blastoise because it is the most well rounded with good defense and offense
