Kids who started with Gen IV hadn't (at the time) the experience to use boosting move/items to their fullest potential, the only real thing you can expect them to pick up on is balancing healing (particularly with items) with STAB damage, assuming that they (as I was admittedly once guilty of) get too attached to one Pokemon specifically to pick up on the value of type matchups. As such you can't really blame them if they look at Cynthia and see Sephiroth

I only watched the anime till gen 3 , when i saw her in game i thought she was just an NPC and i was wondering why an NPC is having a great design and a boss music , so i battled her and was about to lose. Another Pokémon you couldn't hit super-effectively; yeah, why not. An Eeveelution, perhaps because Eevee has so many fans (actually this was because Wallace was in the game too). A Pokémon that could mega evolve and challenge legendaries. A nuke button as a replacement because some people still said Cynthia was EZ. A smiling face that hides the frustration of so many competitive players. A former Champion's ace you really can't figure out if you should hit it with physical or special attacks, and so you sit for 30 minutes straight up. (Again talking about BDSP) GARCHOMP!

When I was a tiny lil bean that absorbs Pokemon content from DVDs and CDs like a sponge, I saw this tall lady in black with blonde hair covering one of her eyes and a friendly smile in one of the episodes. As much as I liked her, I didn't remember much of her outside of that she was a nice and pretty lady with Umbreon-ears-looking-hair-accessories. After a while, I was able to have the chance to play Pokemon Platinum. I fought the elite four with ease due to my Max levelled Empoleon and Lucario, then came the champion. Out of excitement of beating the Elite 4 and soon the main game, I was unable to properly process who I was fighting against. All I remember were two things: The color of her clothes and a blur of light blonde. Years after that, I saw this lady again in a random house while adventuring B&W 2. Unfortunately, I couldn't remember her since it has been a long time. As I was battling her, a thought crept from the back of my head. "She looks familiar," I told myself but I didn't think much else besides that, as I was focused on winning the battle with my max level Lucario (You can definitely tell who is my favorite here). Then after that, came the Diamond and Pearl remakes along with Legends Arceus. While I was not able to play the games since I don't own a Switch, I resorted to watching brief playthroughs. But then that's where I found out... That this tall lady that I've repeatedly seen very few times throughout my life ever since I was a child, with her elegant black coat, sharp but gentle gaze, and unmistakable hairstyle... was actually responsible for the suffering of countless others and one of the most respected and feared characters in the franchise. I would say "who knew?" but I think everyone but me here apparently does.

I just battled her in my 6th playthrough and it was not pretty. I was also in set mode I had a good team at their high 50s. Infernape, Garchomp, Togekiss, Roserade, Milotic, and Magnezone Spiritomb: easy. took two dazzling Gleams from Togekiss. Lucario:I switched to Garchomp. But that also meant that it actually used that turn for a nasty plot. It outsped my chomp and killed it with dragon pulse, then I switched to my ape. Which Lucario also outsped as well.but luckily that broken friendship mechanic gave me a sash of hope. Milotic and Gastrodon: I sent out Magnezone to take care. Her Milotic used scald. Then Magnezone use discharge and unfortunately it only did like 40%. then she switched out to her Gastrodon when I was about to use discharge again. So I sent out my Roserade to deal with Gastrodon. But then Earthquake dealt like more than 50% of its health. Luckily this slug is slow. So Roserade used 4x super effective giga drain. But then unfortunately it survived on 1 HP. And I was like how. It used rock tomb. And after another giga drain the slug is finished. Then she sent out her Milotic and I got a little cocky. I forgot my speed was reduced. And my Roserade died to an ice beam. I sent out Magnezone to hit it with discharge. But it's now in the red. I was about to go for another discharge. But Cynthia full restored her Milo. And again it dealt like 40% again. I went for discharge but it used recover again. It took me like 10 discharges just to kill that thing. Only after one misclick from her and a crit. I finally managed to take down that big fish. Roserade: her roserade was a little nasty. It outsped my infernape. And hit it with sludge bomb. And unfortunately it landed a poison. But fortunately after two flamethrowers. The flower is dead. Garchomp: then... Oh dear her Garchomp. I switched out to Milo. Which unfortunately gave him a turn to use swords dance. In the next turn her Garchomp used swords dance again. And my Milotic used ice beam. That Yache berry though. It made the attack only deal like 45%. My Milo died to an earthquake. After I revived Roserade so I can take advantage of poison point. By bait switching with Togekiss. I switched out and hope that a poison point happens. And it did land but it was with a cost of a sacrifice. I threw out hoping for a friendship boost or a misclick. And by god the friendship mechanic saved my Togekiss from death. And it landed the Dazzling Gleam that murderous shark. And finally it's over ... Nasty. There were times where I felt like it wasn't a win. But more like i survived that. I haven't done the rematches yet. But I will later on. she's one of the top three favorite female characters. Only topped by Cara Dune and Ahsoka Tano

What was your Milotic's ability? Because Milo is easily one of the best counters to her Swords Dance Yache Berry Garchomp; pre burn it and give it leftovers in case you have marvel scale (after sacrificing one mon to chomp to bring Milo safely, or if you have competitive as the ability, just abuse Gastrodon's Rock Tomb once the Roserade is down.

I barely won against her 1st rematch in BDSP. I had to replace one of my pokemon with a Latios, because magnezone wasn't doing much good. I lead gardevoir against spiritomb to get off one calm mind and take it out, she sends in roserade and I let gardevoir go down. I then send in Scyther, which can out-speed the roserade with a lucky quick claw proc and pretty easily take out roserade. She then sends in togekiss, and Scyther goes down. I send out my empoleon, which can actually survive an aura sphere, and get a lucky crit to take down togekiss with a flash cannon. She sends out lucario, and empoleon goes down to it. I have to sacrifice my houndoom to safely revive and get my own lucario back in, which manages to survive one hit thanks to the focus sash I gave him, and retaliate with an aura sphere to take it out. She sends out milotic, which is weird since I was weak to garchomp, but it got me the win. I let lucario go down, and I send in latios. I managed to stall out milotics ice beam PP by using recover, while setting up dragon dances at the same time. I had to set up enough dragon dances to one shot the garchomp, because I had lost to it twice before. It was a wild battle, and I can't believe I actually won this. These games elite four/champion rematches are brutal man.
