My favorite rival! I admit I didn't like Silver at first, he was so aggressive and rude, but meeting the player character lets him see his mistakes little by little and he definitely grows on you at the end! His background totally explains his actions, I couldn't help but feel a little sad for him... he has probably never felt loved and understood, which is why he's obsessed with strength, something Giovanni taught him (either directly or not). I think he's one of the most developed rivals and I'd love to see an older version of him in a new game someday (although it's unlikely :P)

In the original and the HGSS version, the section around 0:41 always makes me think of Silver curled up and boiling about Giovanni and Team Rocket. An angry sadness, almost? But I do agree that the original version keeps the sad and lonely tone more consistently throughout. It could just be because of the soundfont/number of instruments. Typhlosion with Thunder Punch was amazing due to Elemental Punches being Special Moves back then rather than physical :)
