the mystery dungeon series are truly a blessing. i got explorers of sky when i was around 11? maybe around my birthday too? anyway, i enjoyed it tremendously. i cried so hard at the ending. i replayed it (not even kidding) probably 10 times, and i cried almost every single time. the story was so good and i was so invested in it and all of its characters. i have so much fun grinding in side missions that sometimes i delay doing the main story, haha. there's also so much strategy in fighting which i absolutely love. i wish this series was more known. imo it's way better than the main games by a mile. there's just so much content and replay value. it's just a wonderful experience every time you play through it again. anyway, great video!! im glad you went into depth in each game.

Last time I played Sky was about 2 years ago, when I was 20. By the time I got to the Grovyle part, I still shed a tear. If I played it again today (which I am planning to very soon), it will once again make me emotional. The story on its own is already reason enough to play these gems, not to mention everything around it. They feel like such complete games and that's a feeling I very rarely have. I get why they're likely not making new parts though, the last one had terrible sales numbers. Might as well spend your money on something else. End of an era... I completed both super mystery dungeon and gates to infinity. The thing that just doesnt cut it for me is the 3D world. It just ruins the "feel" if u know what I am saying. I felt less involved and attached to the 3D characters

I love explorers of sky it is a awesome game I think I replayed it maybe 20 or 25 times if you add explorers of darkness , I'm loving the rom hacking scene for explorers of sky, currently playing one that adds more to the post game like a battle with arceas and newer pokemon from later gens also with qol improvements from the newer mystery dungeon games like hold L to bring up your move and press the button to that move.

The one thing PMD will always have that the mainstream got rid of is the difficulty. Feels so rewarding when you finally beat a boss after losing 10 times, instead of beating the big baddie without even trying, and feeling underwhelmed.

Yes the most difficult game was actually super I did a playthrough of it and there is almost no time to grind not to mention the game wants you to break it with items like the yvatal boss fight I just tossed a ban seed after it used oblivion wing otherwise it would wipe everyone out took me 5 years to beat the game because of it

in the main game you never talk unless it's answering questions or "yes/no" or but in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon the game shows what you are feeling and you have dialog and thoughts and plus I love those mini portraits that show the pokemon emotions and your partner is your friend that always by your side, the main game you're alone, the main game you have a rival that is sometimes mean and sometimes nice to you depending on what game you get but all you do is fight them no matter how they treat you. also, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is freaking emotional, the main game never made me cry, but Pokemon Mystery Dungeon has

If anything the developer of the series deserves praise for actually listening to feedback. When people complained that Gates to Infinity didn't include all Pokémon species and had very slow text speed they actually fixed both of these things for Super! That game had issues of its own, but hey, they listened. Also consider that for the first two games they had the absolute mammoth task of creating eight-directional sprites for all 493 Pokémon, including character portraits, and then had to do it all over again, except with 3D models for the 3DS games. And even though the most recent game is a remake they didn't cheap out there either, cause unlike the Let's Go games for example they still included evolutions of existing Pokémon that weren't around when the original version came out. Overall I think that Spike Chunsoft is a great developer with a very good eye for small details that deserves more appreciation.

I feel the worst thing is when we get another bad/bland plot for the latest Pokémon game ya always here “it’s Pokémon, it’s never had a good storyline so why complain about it.” Like bitch what? Not only is that a poor excuse for the continued lack of quality but... literally PMD2 has the best plot I’ve ever seen in a game. The likes of which I feel is only rivalled but the likes of Undertale. The main games have no excuse when given the limitless potential of the Pokémon and the many Pokédex entry’s. Mystery Dungeons feel like someone read the Pokédex and was like “hey, their are 2 time travel Pokémon. Let’s don’t something with that.” “ninetales can curse people, let’s do something with that.” “gardevoir is unflinching loyal to its trainer, let do something with that.” “Xatu watches the sun all day” “Absol show up before disasters leading people to think they are the caws of disasters! That’s a story that already wrote itself, let’s do something with that!”. Mystery dungeon feels inspired. If almost feels fan made because of how careful and loving every inch of it is. There's actually a theory which states that the origin of these Pokédex entries comes from the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games, which if true, would mean that the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games takes place before the Pokémon mainline games, Sinnoh Folk Story 3 supports the theory by saying that there was once a time when humans and Pokémon lived close to each other, ate at the same table together, and even married each other, and that it was normal because there was no differences to distinguish the 2, referring to the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games, in which, human turned Pokémon are called "humans" and that there was no way to distinguish "humans" from regular Pokémon other than to ask them whether or not they were originally humans, Legends Arceus later reinforced this theory, when it's explicitly stated that this game, which is a Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game by the way, is a prequel to Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, a Pokémon mainline game, officially confirming that the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games takes place before the Pokémon mainline games, and thus, this theory becomes very likely to be true.

You made a great video without even saying that abilities and moves are way more balanced than the main series, and you aren't forced to evolve Pokémon to bring them at their maximum potential, if you like the moves they learn at their non-fully evolved stages, then you can empower their moves and stats and use them anyway in most of dungeons

I'm so happy I bought PMDDX, that game was my first PMD game, and it got me into the PMD games. I bought Sky after beating it, especially after hearing all the praise it got and some of the ost, and the game was frickin amazing. I got Super and the original Red Rescue Team too, and they were really amazing too (i should play gates lol), but Sky is definitely my favourite :)

If I was out and I have I use sleep seeds and I usually save reviver seeds throughout the game in storage for that reason the real challenge is palkia or getting to it in spacial rift that place is hard then dark crater so primal dialga isn't the hardest one but maybe that's because I fought this boss to much I used to be a mystery dungeon attic as a kid

I love the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series because they make the Pokémon themselves feel like actual characters who actually matter to the plot instead of animal sidekicks. Animal sidekicks that don’t even talk, no less! The 10-year-old boy on tournament adventure story is getting as stale as bread. The wholesome furry isekai is where it’s at. 👍

An then there's Pokémon Legends Arceus, a Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game that absolutely pushed the series to its limits, as it takes place in the Hisui region, which is based on the Sinnoh region from the mainline series, and Hisui has a lot of elements coming from Sinnoh, like the main village of Jubilife Village, which is based on Jubilife City from Sinnoh, and even the Galaxy Expedition Team, which is based on Team Galactic from Sinnoh, just to name a few, and all the while, they removed any humans and replaced them with Pokémon, so that there wouldn't be any human whatsoever, with Grolem being the comander of the Galaxy Expedition Team, Abra being the captain of the Survey Corps of the Galaxy Expedition Team, Pikachu being the one who taught you about the different behaviors that wild Pokémon have, Galarian Farfetch'd being the regional professor, Stoutland being the leader of the Diamond Clan, Liepard being the leader of the Pearl Clan, Kecleon being the merchant, and so on, essentially giving us a "Pokémon DPPt/BDSP but it's a PMD game", and to add the cherry on top, the game is the first Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game to ever have some open world elements, which is what the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series desperately needs, and one day, we will hopefully have a fully open world Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game.

Fun fact, PMD (Red rescue team) was my first game. I've played all except gates. In hindsight, RRT has the weakest partner, but the overall game is alright. Explorers..... Yeah I don't think I have to say how great that is. Super mystery dungeon. It does start a bit slow, but it's great once it gets going. (Also the music in any PMD game its just... Amazing) (and you forgot the perfect apple exists, which fully fills the belly *and* increases the size for that run.

I love the series and not just because of the story (perfect story by the way) but the gameplay also is so adictive and polished lots of aspects from other roguelikes that maybe for someones can be unfair and some of the Pokemon main series mechanics now feels better. Forgetting moves and learning new ones is more confortable and is always satisfing customizing your team; you have lots of possibilities and you can obtain all of the Pokemon without trading! Some people probably would disagree with this, but my favorite Pokemon game is Emerald, but Explorers of Sky is very close. I think that the grinding aspect and some specific recruitments while doesnt ruin by any means the experience, can be annoying. I think that Emerald is the most perfect in the series. Although both are masterpieces in my opinion; some of my favorite games of all time.

I agree I prefer mystery dungeon I can't believe in 2026 it will be 20 years since I played these games for the first time, got every single release since and I actually enjoy both gameplay and story even all these years later . Sad that this series is called basic ,bland boring , and repetitive. I prefer this series over main line and if I want mainline I go to the series that pokemon got the idea from shin megami tensei series since it has more complexity to its story , characters, and gameplay also morality. I get bored with mainline pokemon so easily I can't ever seem to finish the new games nowadays

Megami tensei stories are highly repetitive, the characters are bland, and the only remotely complex gameplay it offers is the recruiting system which is completely different than Pokemon's, therefore I have no idea why you think Pokemon got the idea from SMT. SMT doesn't even let you recruit every enemy, more than that, there was no compendium in early smt games, so you couldn't really bank them. They also couldn't level up and costed money to summon.

And then there's me, I lost all my items after losing to Dialga for the first time and I never went back to get new items and just tried to get back and fight him over and over again and lost time and time again and oftentimes didn't even get to him, until I levelled myself up from LVL 38 to 65 and managed to take out Dialga without any help. I think I climbed that stupid temporal tower a 1000x times. Problem was, afterwards I was so ridiculously overleveled that post-game was super easy and Cresselia got on my nerves so much when it was in my team because she was way weaker than I was. Definitely not the easiest way but still the coolest thing I ever did in a game like this.

@@JuLiane literally happened to me, took ages to beat it as a kid. When you fucked up the first try you need luck to get useful items on your way back to Dialga. During later gameplays I knew what to expect and easily beat it, but damn Dialga penetrated me the very first time.

Kecleon is very strong and a really cool concept in this game, the only method you have to recruit him is to steal from him, am I right?

You can also recruit him by Jirachi granting your wish at the end of Wish Cave. Jirachi will give u a random pokémon u haven't obtained yet. So if Kecleon is the last one you need to recruit, it will give u Kecleon

in my opinion,being different doesnt mean better, both games are good on their own right with their own distinct mechanics, so its about what kinda of gameplay you like... but if there is something i can definely say that makes mystery dungeon a higher quality game the the main series is that MD games feels that they were made with passion and love like they were trying to make the best game possible with what they had, while mainline games feels rushed and more focused on adding more pokemons and gimmicks they will barely use...

I love the md games and yes it has a way better story no question...(wich isnt a high mark to hit) But the gameplay of the main line is superior to the md games(wich isnt a high mark to hit either) cuz theyre just dungeon crawlers and there to stretch the games lengh I do like the md games more then the main line but there are not that many and they probably wont ever change up the gameplay since md was just a means to bring dungeoncrawlers to pokemon (wich was said by the company themselves) As a result the player kinda feels like seeing an outside perspective and doesnt actually feel like the pokemon that ypu turned into wich is the whole sellingpoint of the md games

It did fairly ok compared to explorers + original rescue team, but not even close to what a mainline entry sells on average. I think there's a chance they offshore it somewhere, but it won't have any priority whatsoever

And a new game did come out, it's called Legends Arceus, and it sold so well that it actually becomes the best selling Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game by a long shot, and people love it so much that it's even more loved than Explorers of Sky, and it's so good that it becomes the best Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game, even better than Explorers of Sky once again, and it's thanks in part to the fact that the game is the first Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game to ever contain some open world elements, opening the door for Pokémon Mystery Dungeon to hopefully become fully open world, meaning we'll hopefully one day get a fully open world Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game.

USUM has a better story than any mystery dungeon game, you are also simplifying the stories of the earlier mainline games way too hard to prove your point. Main series Pokemon has tons of mini games and tons of things to do post game, beating the elite 4 over again is not a totally recommended post game activity, and mystery dungeon changing the story doesn't change the game play. The items in main series are also not exploitable in the harder challenges of main series, as you can only use 1 held item per Pokemon as part of a competitive set, whereas in mystery dungeon you can brute force just about anything with items. Catching Pokemon is not as black and white as forcing it into a ball, there is definitely trust involved afterward, and the Pokemon will naturally like its new home. Mystery dungeon mechanically has a bad recruiting system all around. Having to unlock camps and have to rely on a one chance recruit system is just not fun. The only point I agree with is the level design being randomized and making every playthrough feel a little different, and Pokemon has this too in the battle pyramid, but the Pokemon world mainly is meant to be an urban, and light suburban explorable training ground with major challenges focused in specific areas.

By the time Legends Arceus takes place, HMs, TMs and TRs are completely phased out and are replaced by move tutoring, implying that Pokémon, for whatever reason, can't make HMs, TMs or TRs on their own, not yet at least, and that those HMs, TMs and TRs were only discovered and must come from somewhere, and that somewhere could actually be space-time distortions, which if true, would mean that HMs, TMs and TRs were actually invented after Legends Arceus, which could just mean 1 year after Legends Arceus at the earliest, so assuming Legends Arceus takes place in 2022, HMs, TMs and TRs would be invented in 2023 at the earliest, i mean, in the human world, it's not rare to see major inventions taking place 1 year after major events (or vice-versa), for instance, the storming of the Bastille took place in 1789, and then just 1 year later, in 1790, the sewing machine was invented, so it's still possible, it's just that it would only be coincidental and would only be as likely as all the other years.

PMD games have far better writing, but the graphics and gameplay are definitely not on par. PMD have interesting gameplay, but it gets old so quickly, and I know I am not the only person that happened to. I could compare other things, but they're either about on the same level or are not exactly fair to compare.

LA solves both of these problems by having HD graphics for the former one and by having some open world elements for the latter one, which is very important, because we hope that we eventually get a fully open world PMD.

I couldn't get past the third level in Sky' super I'm truly pretty far and that one took me like 5 hours to get past one dungeon the fifth dungeon but then I finally did it with some luck' I'm actually halfway done with main story cuz it shows 8 miles is on the file thing and it shows for of the 101 and it still shows 4 so I'm just guessing I'm halfway done with the main game

You apply the same strategy of spamming items and taking advantage of your type against the bosses, the only difference is that mainline has a harder post game. The battle facility challenges are harder than any item spammable dungeon in MD. You can prep for every dungeon in MD pretty easily. You explore the dungeon, possibly get killed due to type disadvantage you didn't know about, then bum rush in and rescue yourself with the advantage and finish the dungeon and you're done. In a battle facility there's no second chances, your record is broken losing once, and there are 0 type patterns between fights and no over leveling because you are rounded down to level 50, it is entirely raw turn based strategy.

I remember the one before SMD, sure it was the first game for it's series to go 3d, but the models looked kinda stiff, and i think no matter what anyone says, the fact that they restricted the playable starter pokemon to just be the 3 'newest' starters, pikachu and Axew was shite, and the cruddy dlc that came along afterwards.

People are saying that the main Pokemon games have no postgame nor challenge but try completing Purity Forest with all Pokemon, while neglecting online versus. That’s like playing Smash Ultimate World of Light, throwing it into the bin after reaching the Galeem ending and complaining about spending ~100 bucks for this, just to go on labbing Jigglypuff in Melee.

Except you don't have to run Purity Forest with all the pokémon for post-game content you still have the legendary birds storyline which leads to Silver Trench/Lugia, the Kyogre storyline which needs you to explore solar cave for Surf, the Spinda storyline (legendary beasts+Ho-Oh), the aftermath of the meteor (Deoxys storyline), the wish cave storyline which leads to Gengar's story... All of that after the postgame, in SS you have nothing to do other than online battling.

Are you really attacking reviver seeds? Considering in Mystery Dungeon you have to find them, in SS you can buy thousands of Max Revives and do the same. And yes, VGC is very overcentralised there's like 20-30 viable pokémon including anti-meta picks and competitive is NOT content considering showdon gives you the same experience for free. @@vengeflyking2722 you can beat mystery dungeon games at level 5, and reviver seeds arent even that good compared to the multiple items that you can get inside the dungeons, like petrify orbs and, if you are playing super mystery dungeon, wands. Can we just talk about the fact that an item that can do the same effect as a seed can be stacked into up to 40 uses, and only use up 1 inventory slot? They're cool but super broken.

I've been defending the lack of post game in main series way too long. I got obsessed with online battles in gen 6 and was fine with the pathetic excuse of a post game. Then they never left that trend. If you aren't a completionist, shiny hunter, or competitive player, newer pokemon games offer NOTHING. Let's also not forget unless you buy the dlc and pay to play online, SS are incredibly incomplete games. Rescue Team DX however offers a full experience and 100+ hours of gameplay easily. I had to force my copy of Sword to get that high and it was really just cause of shiny hunting.
