What makes this really epic (besides the music) is that the flowers that are growing around where you're battling usually signify the last time you'll meet someone. But in this case, they signify the death of the old Wally, and the birth of the new Wally. It's pretty cool that those flowers serve as the backdrop of a truly epic battle. Wally is best rival (better than Green/Blue IMO)

Wally is a really good rival because of his development. I'm not gonna lie, Blue/Green as well as Silver also went through some sort of development and they are also amazing rivals, but Wally's development is a bit different. He started off as someone weak and frail, but with confidence he became a strong trainer, and a powerful opponent! He gives inspiration that just because you think you're weak now doesn't mean that you can't improve and become strong later.

My first reaction to this battle in my run of Omega Ruby was just "What the hell happened to Wally, and who is this badass?!" Wally went from timid friendly Rival to full fledged Badass Obstacle in the Blink of an eye, and that Mega Gallade was a beautiful change from RSE.

Hence the reason you find and fight him in a field of red spider lilies. Red Spider lilies represent death and reincarnation as well as hell. It is said that if you meet someone on a path with them all around. This representation is very fitting here. The old Wally who was dependent, timid, sickly and weak is has died. This is the new Wally who is strong, independent, and confident who isn't sickly anymore and he's only getting stronger. You will never see the old wally again.

As for the hell representation of the lilies as well, Wally had to go through many hardships and overcome a lot of weakness and drawbacks but here he is standing before you as a strong courageous trainer. This Red Spider lily analogy with Wally's growth and reincarnation as a new person reminds me of a particular Game of Thrones quote: "Kill the boy and let the man be born"

LOLZ334 Close Combat is a Physical type move in which Gardevoir is a special defensive Pokémon. So it would do much more damage even if its resistant to the moves type

wally probably has the greatest character developement in any of the pokemon games. so helpless and timid in the beginning and he never, ever gave up. he accomplished everything you did short of beating the elite 4, with terrible life threatening asthma and he did it before your character, while you were battling the teams. wally is the true master of ORAS.

Instead of using Gardevoir or my own Gallade, I used Mega Sceptile. Why? Because he was my starter. Gallade was Wally's starter. It was a final epic clash between rivals, of both species.

I love that the final Wally battle takes place in what’s essentially supposed to be a congratulatory final room for those that manage to successfully overcome the treacherous path of victory road. The Rose Battlefield, at least with how it looks. Fitting for trainers strong enough to challenge the 5 strongest trainers in Hoenn. At least story wise, these two go head-to-head for the first time in probably months (in-game) and it’s a completely different tale from the first battle. These two view the other as their only true equal on their respective journeys. Wally ALWAYS looked up to you and your heroics throughout your journey, it’s made clear you are a very public figure in Hoenn by late game. At the same time, the attentive player will realize that Wally out of nowhere started beating all the gyms before you could, always being one step ahead of you. In that regard, it shows that you fell behind him and were trying to catch up to that boy who was initially shown as meek, frail, generally just weak. In this battle, you respect the other as your only equal in battle. The only trainer on your Hoenn journey that truly pushed you to your limits and forced you to overcome those limits. Again, that’s all story related. You could also beat the brakes off of him. I like to headcannon the equality stuff because that’s pretty much what was intended, especially since Wally continues to grow and you can keep challenging him post game, unlike your gender counterpart (L).

If you think about it, Wally getting Gallade makes more sense then him originally getting Gardevoir. Gallade means he is willing to cross the barrier from being a boy to becoming a man. Now I know Gardevoir can be a male or female but Gallade can only be male. It's like a status symbol, and while Gallade was a Gen 4 evolution, he originally could not get him. I am glad this fight is portrayed far more accurately here.
