love the idea of serial numbered cards but I think it would make the hobby unattainable for a lot of people, especially young people. The LCS community would be charging even more than they already are which are basically scalper " market" price. they would probably go the way of sports and sell hobby and retail which again, makes the big dog cards pretty much unattainable for the average collector.

I think that pokemon would need to create a new product for this. Currently, the cards are designed for play so mass quantities need to exist. I think that, if they brought back the Topps-style cards, then they could pull this off and it would be cool. Then the playing product could be more affordable since a lot of collectors would venture off to the other product. Pokemon would be wise to create this divide as well so they don't have pallets in someone's basement/storage unit wasting away.

Tbh if you are a player they already created a lot of cheap alternatives for playing by having all the new variants and rarities and normally all the rarest cards in a set are just variations of an easier more accessible card. Not like in the past where some of the best playable cards were also the rarest cards to pull. Things can always be improved though, but the card game already has a pretty hard separation between cards aimed at collecting and cards aimed at playing. It actually is crazy though that some people are literally hoarding entire store front inventory of cards while the common/popular retail stores are constantly dry or only have the least desired options left.

I collected as a kid. Never even knew how to play it. And I don't think people that collect pokemon cards collect to play? It's more fun to play Yugioh. For Pokemon, I think it's more about the artwork or collecting it due to the love for the anime and video games. But idk. That's just my 2 cents.

Completely agree with making tournaments bigger and promoting them better! I went to a scarlet and violet prerelease two days ago and got first place and it was my first tournament ever. I’m now HOOKED!!! The issue is, you’d never know there was a tournament nearby because you barely ever hear about it and they’re lazy with their promoting.

I agree with the concerns regarding scalpers, but I would be interested in maybe TRYING serial-numbered cards in a SPECIAL set - not a mainline set. I do think 1 of 1 or even 1 of 10 is TOO exclusive though. Imagine what happens when that 1 of 1 card finally gets pulled - the value of the sealed crashes, and unless the set is a hit in tournament play, unopened inventory sits on the shelf unsold. And no Nate, that's not something you would list on TCG Player, you go straight to Christie's with your 1 of 1! I could see trying special sets with cards numbered 1/1000 and 1/5000 though. This adds the charm of serial-numbered cards, without going crazy... at least in the beginning.

I've seen this discussed before and if they did serial #'d cards I think it would only work for a non competitive type of set... maybe something themed like a pokemon go, celebrations type set... I don't think with how pokemon prints and how they support competitive play that would work for those types of sets. I mean Evolutions being released in 16/17 and still hit walmart 4 years later? That's where a TCG Card doesn't match the sports world in the sports world. When they are done with release/printing, they are done. prizm football is not going back and reprinting 2017 products to give you another chance to pull a Mahomes rookie again.... but pokemon will reprint what and when they want and they do support the kids and the players more then the collectors overall and I'm sure they know doing serial #'d cards would be scalped to a demand probably higher then they do now... I think one thing not discussed that they could bring back and what yugioh still does is that 1st Edtion stamp on the card. I wished for the initial release of products pokemon would go back and do 1st Edition cards again. I think it wouldn't create a scalper market but something extra for the fan/collector again... I mean think about how much more people want a 1st Edition Dark charizard over a non 1st edition charizard card.. I also think the illustrator auto is a great idea throwing those into regular releases I don't think would be as scalped as hard as a 1 of 1 product that had charizard or umbreon in it....

I think the Pokémon Company grading their own cards will be a major conflict of interest. Yes, it may help with the improvement of quality but it will also allow for them to easily manipulate the market and the value of graded cards being that they have direct access and a hand in creating the very cards they are grading.

@@TCGFunhouse I think the difference in Pokémon controlling the graded card market compared to PSA and BGS is that Pokémon would have direct access to the production and manufacturing of the cards and they could use that position to control quality, if you catch my drift. I personally like that you can pull a chase card and it might not have perfect centering, surface, corners or edges. I’d prefer that over a guaranteed perfect copy every time it’s pulled. At least that way I know that if I do pull a near perfect copy, I potentially have more value in it since it will receive a higher grade, in theory.

I’d like to see them make the legendary art.. legendary. I love the idea of the gold alt arts. They need to keep that going. Also, they should introduce think “tag team” but “V.S.” I don’t know how the TCG would play out but think of it at a rival boost. The art would be the two Pokémon fighting each other like you see in mewtwo vs charizard but it makes the art official.

Serial number cards is a scary thought for me. Part of me doesn’t like it because it will probably inflate prices and all that. But the other part of me is interested in having maybe ONE prize serial numbered card that I really like instead of trying to collect multiple. But then again…once you start..the itch becomes unscratchable so it makes me scared again lol

not sure if u guys brought this up or not, but if they decided to start adding numbered cards like sports, do u think they would need to create a seperate platform between retail products ( packs bought in retail stores like walmart target ect) and hobby products packs sold exclusively online and in hobby shop locations creatitng there own checklists of raritys

Randomly inserted rare pack arts would be kinda cool. They could be in any product they sell. Cards don’t have to be different that are inside the pack, but say they only print “X” amount or whatever, and just stumble upon one.

No. Dont even think about it.....the quality of the card is terrible. Let's fix the quality of the card before jumping to the top tier level. I am sick of the whitening at the back of the cards. For crown ze, there are even horizontal print/cut line at the top blue border at the back. The quality STINKS and it is getting worse. I would rather Pokemon company fixes the quality issue first before going to do anything more crazy. No one definitely want to see a serial Pokemon card with whitening at the back as well as poor centering. And I can bet you one of those serial number cards will be one of those stolen from the Pokemon printing facility and be graded before the official release lol What about reprint? So serial number can only exist in first print run? Just like auto card, they can do Pokemon's finger print card as well As a collector I want it. But I know it will create chaos in the hobby..... ppl are already hving hard time with increased MRSP.... With serial number, the MRSP will go higher.

Like magic the Gathering has been doing for the past few years and Dragon Ball super card game just started this... there could be a product that is specifically for collectors which could contain this serialized cards and keep the competitive TCG game cards in the normal packs. Thinking have a collector box which would have a variant of Rarities and possible alternate art cards for even Commons or uncommon

Love the idea of numbering the Pokémon cards. I pulled a Moonbreon so I know it can’t be rare 😂😂. Knowing a 1/5 or 1/1 card is out there would be so exciting and fun! You can’t have the expectation that you will pull them all. You have to go in thinking “but what if” I don’t have a Giratina Alt Art and probably won’t get it, but that’s ok I want that card to remain scarce for the people who do have it!

Well thats the end of my Pokemon card collecting days. I for one am very dissapointed in the change.To me the new cards look like the old fake cards which i feel will be alot more easy to counterfit. Everyone i know feels the same way. Time to find a new hobbie

Pokemon grading their own cards is a terrible idea. You'd literally be paying them to grade their own cards and in an ideal world with better QA, 99% of their cards would come back 10s. Any that dont eould be them basically admitting they fucked up with QA

Serial numbered cards would ruin the hobby for the common collector. All it would do would make the modern product sky rocket just like it is in Japanese. So instead of paying 40-45 for a japanese booster box you're having to pay 4 to 5x msrp. U bring numbered cards to pokemon those booster boxes are gonna be 500+ if not more upon release because of the hype and scalping. That would bring in a whole nother bread to the hobby that would kill it. There's no way me or even you guys could afford to chase it. A 1 of 1 zard would be 500k if not more. No thank u

Hard disagree on the serialized cards. I think it will eventually happen but it would signal a cry for help from a struggling Pokemon company imo. It's a last-ditch effort to create hype when everything else has gone to sh.. It's why I don't see it happening anytime soon with Pokemon and why we just got one from MTG. MTG has been going through a rough period. Introducing serialized cards is an attempt to recreate hype and I believe it will work but it won't help them in the long run. If Pokemon somehow did it now, it would be disastrous. Just look at prices of Japanese boxes and imagine how much higher they'd go for if there were serialized cards inside. You wouldn't find boxes at target. Think back about the insane scalping during the pandemic and x that times 100. It would price out so many people, especially parents and kids who casually open some product here and there and are arguably the biggest consumer base. Pushing out that group of consumers would be detrimental for the hobby in the long-run.

Collectors are a huge part of the PTCG and having a serial numbered card would create something for the hardcore collectors. Yes it would cause some issues with scalping and it would be very difficult to get your hands on them but I think it would add something special without taking away something from the players.
