thinking about it, that quiz may be to pick which gym leader would swap in for the third elite 4 member. unfortunately with how surprisingly hard larry was for some people and how popular he is with a lot of others, he likely will be stuck as the 3rd elite member for another year again.

In the Indigo Disk DLC, you can arrange a rematch with many notable Paldean trainers, Larry included. If you chose Larry during Rika’s Elite Four interview and eventually talk to him in the League Club room at Blueberry Academy, he’ll bring it up and express confusion over why you chose him. It’s a pretty sweet detail.

Funnily enough, when entering the Elite Four and being asked about which Leader left the most impression, Larry was far and the above the only option I even considered. Most of the other names I couldn't even put a face to. Larry's simplicity truly was his most brilliant and distinguishing trait.

But isn’t it ironic that the only reason people seem to like Larry so much is because compared to the rest of the cast, he’s ‘different’? So he kind of subverts his own message. The guy is also clearly miserable and uses a Staraptor as his ace, I wouldn’t go taking life advice from him. The other gym leaders seem to have far more fulfilling day jobs too.
@charusharu

Be true to more than just yourself. Resist the shock factor (less is more; simplest is strongest). Embrace life’s simple pleasures. SV is starting to look more and more like a textbook on positive intelligence (especially the parts with Larry). I’m reading a book about it with a men’s group that I’ve joined, and this talk is lining up with some of the things from that book. ( by Shirzad Chamine, in case you’re interested or haven’t read it.) Any Hau, I’ll just have my Tera-Normal Staraptor use Return and hope it crits the Like Button.

Quick addendum to the whole “this is why Japan is such a safe and cultured place to live” bit; Japan is not all rising suns and rainbows, mainly due to the overt prioritization of the expectations of society (avoiding social discord whenever possible) over the principles and worries of the individual. There are many times when someone overtly wrong is happening in broad daylight and nobody seems to care, such as a molestation incident on a train or someone that seems to be stalking someone else, not because nobody actually cares, but because nobody wants to be the person who draws attention to it. Nobody wants to be the bee who buzzes out of tune. This is why principles are so important, because your principles will be there to help you do the right thing, even when society expects otherwise.

Plot twist, Larry is Ash’s biological father. Imagine the contrast of gun-ho adventure loving Ash being the son of disgruntled salary man, Larry. Would explain why Mr. Ketchum is always away like Deku’s dad. And could tie in with the little we know about the real Mr. ketchum, went off on a journey and never returned, feeling like a failure, but actually made it big, but doesn’t actually feel big.

I would like to propose the idea of another trainer that has been mentioned in the game but never made an appearance in-game to come in and take Larry's place in the Elite Four. Of course this isn't going to happen let alone would anyone else give it any thought or consideration. Love the video, the message at the end is a little..... sad, though. Essentially the message is "have no hope that anything will get better, accept that you will have to work 18 hours a day at 3 different jobs just to pay for your right to exist, and use your free time to pretend for at least a few minutes that everything is okay." Seems a little hopeless to me, but 🤷🏽‍♂️

You know, this video has really helped me be more grounded with my views. Everyone around me expects so much from me and wants me to do and be more, but I can only give so much and be more than what I am. So what if I don't like to party, drink, smoke, or even go out of the house often, I am doing what I feel comfortable with. And yes, I step up when I need to, push myself a little too hard sometimes, but who doesn't? I finally found the reason I resonated with Larry the first time I came across him in the game.

When I first saw Larry I immediately was floored by how plain he was. It was just perfect.

8:09 "Japan is safe principled and wonderful place to live in" It looks like someone here didn't play Persona 5. Japan has a tons of social issues that are grounded in their culture: 99.9% win rate for procecutors, because results and victory is expected/everything. It doesn't matter that humans are not perfect and can make mistake, doesn't matter that at least 30% of those send to jail are innocent. Doesn't matter that procecutors have power to fabricate evidance or torture suspects into confesing. Win rate is what matters. Oh, and there is also how adults can get away with so much at cost of young, because young should respect their elders and own them everything. Oh, and being beaten build a character. Well, sometimes it does, and sometimes in breaks a young person, leaving it with a mental scar that never heals, or simply leads to the cicle repeating itself. Deaths' or extreme sickness from overworking? What's that? So yeah, if something is put to extreme, it will turn bad. So saying that Japan is safe and wonderful place to live in works only if you ignore all its flaws that are hidden. As long as public immage and reputation in colective culture is more important than morals and common sense, flaws will remain there.

Scarlet and Violet got a little too real at multiple points. Dealing with bullies and how you sometimes get punished for standing up to them, having to deal with absent parents, and dealing with the everyday grind like Larry. Heck, even the last line of the main story of "Let's take the long way home" hits a little too close. For all its performance issues, S/V's execution of it's characters and relatable themes are some of the best in the series

Yeah, it touched on some dark themes. They did a pretty good job with the characters and storylines. :)

Not only is Larry working as both gym leader and E4 member, but I wouldn’t doubt he’s the one picking up the slack for the fact that poppy’s literally a toddler and can’t actually do work outside battles
