The reason why Combee needs to be female in order to evolve into Vespiquen is because Vespiquen is based on a queen bee, which is always female

I can get behind gender-based evolutions, but when only a single gender evolves with less than a 15% chance of being the required gender, it's incredibly irritating. Snorunt, Ralts, and Burmy all have a 50/50 gender ratio, and both genders evolve, but Combee and Salandit only evolve when they're female, and they only have a 12.5% chance to be female.

I get that Gallade and Froslass were introduced in a different generation, but it still drives me crazy that Gardevior can be male, and Glalie can be female. It just doesn't look right. Also male Combee and male Salandit need to evolve, even if the male evolutions are weaker than the female ones.
