Crown Zenith is a very good example of a great set getting “reprinted to the ground” it didn’t actually ruin the set. The prices are starting to climb as we speak and people made the argument that the cards would never increase in value because of more supply.

They always increase in value but the rate of increase needs to be slowed so people can actually play and enjoy the game. Reprints never destroy the long term value of sealed products, they temporarily decrease the cost of entry when a set is still in the current playable format.

​@timstram instead of using words like "always" and "never", id use "historically" as an apt time period. The poke collector market is still very immature, and for every other collectibles market, scarcity matters greatly, but the poke market today - has for the most part - avoided those same pitfalls when considering card vslue. In time, the overprinting will affect their value more harshly, but because the market continues to grow at a rapid rate it is able to absorb it. As soon as the market slows, and it will, print numbers will lower the value and desirabilty of those overprinted cards.

the demand has never been this high for Pokémon so honestly we don't really know what's next - staggered releases are a strategy to keep the consumers engagement up with the product and to not let them forget about it's existence and continue to pull in new money, smart being this is going to be such a busy year for Pokémon. i hope everyone gets what they want lol

I see all these KZbin Timmy's telling people they are going to get this at MSRP or below because Pokemon put out a statement...good luck. I agree, it won't be another vivid voltage, but I do find prismatic as a product unappealing (for many reasons). It will undoubtedly have more than one chase card, but as a set, will it be anywhere close to the next evolving? No, not even close... after it's initial 3 months have passed, and the inferior product quality is recognized for what it is.

Haven't paid over 14.99 for posters, or ~50 USD for ETBs... you're annoyed about overpaying DOUBLE that to some sketchy awful LCS??? Can definitely tell you just started in the past year hahaha. Clearly you weren't around for Celebrations, Shining Fates, or Vivid pre-reprint. Or when Evolving got reprinted and tanked back to $95-100. Just wait for discord notis on restocks and buy 2X as much products with those funds you just got back. It's really not more complex than that.

Different times. Those reprints came when the market was slowing down after the COVID boom. Of course the market could slow down this time which would change things but so far it's not happening.

@ Precisely because the reprints in the last 6 months were not actually full blown reprints dude. We have not seen massive, widespread reprints since the catastrophe of Fusion, Chilling, Battle Styles and others getting decimated to $80. The small waves of Paldea and Obsidian forcibly bundled with other awful products were not true large scale reprinting. I never even stated Prismatic is comparable to these sets, but you're clearly not remembering how massive shifts in sentiment can occur relatively quickly. Everyone and their grandma HATED Fusion and other sets surrounding Evolving and Celebrations. There were very few of us who saw the potential of FS and CR, while Evolving was always seen as a winner. But even Evolving getting rekt from $200+ to $95 from 3 waves of reprints is representative of what REAL reprints do to price. It may only last a month, but if TPCi print as much as they did in 2021, no set will withstand the pressure as well as you think it might. It took Celebrations 3 years to recover from the flood of products they put out... say what you want about the contents of that set, but it's iconic fan favourites, base set reprints, and a 25th anniversary milestone; will be a long term winner. But for years it was dead money literally only due to the insane size of the reprint waves TPCi put out. Genuinely, do people not remember the months long period of 151 at MSRP? Fully stacked Costcos, $80 UPCs online? THAT WAS LAST YEAR LMAO. The short term memory of people in this hobby is crazy.

If Pokemon was not using distributors and instead was printing to demand and selling directly to stores this would not be as much of a problem because if anybody thinks that distribution was not holding on products on purpose to double their margins for the holiday season before the tariffs are put in this year then I have a bridge to sell you. Distros + pokemon pocket + inve$tbr0s telling everybody to max their credit cards and hoard = kids can t buy cheap packs and that is a shame. Only Pokemon can fix this. They first need to reduce distros allocations and move to shipping themselves to LGSes

Kids should go buy battle styles and vivid voltage. Tons of supply and all at MSRP or below. If it's just about collecting cards and ripping packs, they can go wild. They can even pick up shrouded fable at most stores at MSRP.
