Same. I especially didn't expect to have grind AGAIN in platinum, despite my higher lever, and balanced, team. Even after grinding, didn't expect her to be as much of a challenge as it was the first time. Granted, easier, because balance, but only by 0.01%. Came in with my team fully healed with full pp, came out with one. The same one that got me through the first admin with pinpoint crits and an early paralasis, E-Ray, my luxray.

What makes me like Cynthia even more is that in the anime she is very respected and has a lot of charisma, a great idea she loves ice cream (being Garchomp weak point, it's harder to choose ice cream than winning battles😂), she is calm and serene, but have you noticed that when she goes into battle she changes her posture and tone of voice, in that Arceus special it's very clear, at first she's all happy and cute explaining things to Ash,doing something else she love,and when problems happen, wow, she changes and becomes imposing (her voice actress in Japanese is incredible, makes her even better and in the world championship it was the peak for me) in other words, all of this makes her easily one of the best female characters in the anime, they know this so much that she has appeared in other games.

Also this puts her as an antithesis to Cyrus; Cyrus tries his entire life to not feel at all, to get rid of emotions entirely. and he fails. Cynthia, however, is a caring presence to her region, speaking with dragons to calm them down, being kind and supporting to promising young trainers like Ash and Dawn and Lucas. She feels, and when you fight her, you FEEL her presence, her raw badassery, her potent professionalism oozing into the room. She is emotion handled professionally, whereas cyrus is emotion stifled and bottled.

Cynthia was the perfect Champion set up: -Appears in the game often, but not too often. She seems to have something to hide, but because she helped out with the distortion world it can easily be dismissed as her simply being a guide through the game (bear in mind, I'm basing these mostly off Platinum) -Actually helped against Team Galactic rather than sitting on her ass and doing nothing (technically the other champions did too, but she actually came with the player to confront the main villain after his plan suceeded) -Gave you items that were helpful or necessary to progress through the game. -Had some personality (Diantha looking at you) was cool and calm, but not over the top. Could get serious if necessary, and actually had some interesting philosphies and historical knowledge, heck she even has a grandmother we see in the game. She's like that one cool big sister. -Was freaking HARD. All of her Pokemon were very high levelled for the point you were at unless you heavily grinded. Her Pokemon had very awkward types, excellent movesets, near perfect IVS and Garchomp is satan without a viable ice move. -Badass in the anime. Seeing her dominate Paul in battle really left an impression on me, especially since I hadn't beaten her in-game yet. -Badass clothing.The woman tore off Umbreon dicks and wore them as a decoration. Probably had Garchomp kill them. -This god damn theme, the perfect blend of being tense, getting you pumped up but at the same time being a reminder that this will be your greatest challenge. Even her pre-fight theme is awesome. -Banging. Needless to say, there's a reason she comes back.

Can we just consider her team for a second? Let's recap: *-Spiritomb:* terrifying, no weaknesses. If you haven't done the really obscure online stuff, you've probably never seen one before in your life and you're stuck wondering why the hell nothing is killing it. *-Milotic:* the ace of a previous champion (Wallace), again one that is only obtained in a really obscure way (Feebas tiles and whatnot). Likely never seen one either. *-Garchomp:* there are no Gabites in Victory Road in DP, so unless you found that one cave beneath the cycle path, you've never seen one of these bad boys either (and you'll probably be wishing you never did afterwards). *-Lucario:* at this point in Pokémon history, Lucario was rare, powerful and basically deified. You've seen two, you probably have one. That's IT. *-Roserade/Gastrodon:* seem like odd choices but complement her team PERFECTLY. *-Togekiss:* again, unless you actually hatched that Togepi egg, evolved it and then used a Shiny Stone, you probably won't know much about it since Togetic isn't really worth using all that much. All in all, Cynthia has a perfectly balanced team that covers all weaknesses, as well as three Pokémon that a young player has likely NEVER SEEN BEFORE. Let me repeat: *YOU'VE PROBABLY NEVER SEEN HALF HER TEAM'S POKEMON EVER.*

The only way to really beat Cynthia in the original for me was to go all out with strategy. It’s was crazy to do something that involves lowering the attack stats with having both staraptor and luxray having intimidate abilities and then constantly switching between the two. It work pretty well in the original Diamond and Pearl Edit: To clarify, this was for her Garchomp

@@marcelovieira519 I was going through my Black Version and realized I never challenged Cynthia. My Haxorus defeated 3 of Cynthia's Pokemon. He Swords Danced and X-Scissored his way through Spiritomb. After my Chandelure and Elektross fainted, it dodged two Blizzards from it and took it down with Dragon Claw. After Garchomp took out my Samurott, Haxorus was sent back in, dodged two Dragon Rushes and Dragon Clawed it to death. It was awesome.

Pearl was one of the first games that I ever played as a kid. I was 7, ADHD as hell, and so deep in my pokemon hyperfixation I'm shocked I was ever found. Whenever I lost to Cynthia, I took it as a sign that I just wasn't good enough yet. I would take my beloved team of six and go and grind up 5 more levels before facing her again. Think I finally took her down at level 70. Ggs, Cynthia.

Those snares are INSANE! This generation was so musically invested in and the story was just too good. This is by far the best generation, hands down and I'm dieting on this hill.
