This was the show I grew up on. I mean, I’d watched the others before, but this was the show that released when I was a little. So because of that, I genuinely never understood why people hated Black and White. And frankly??? Still dont, it’s not that bad. I definitely still hold a lot of love for it. :)

The main problem is they negated a lot of Ash's experience from previous series, either for comic relief or exposition to the viewers, so it was really off-putting to watch right after the Sinnoh League. Team Rocket's personality change was also way too forced. BW would've worked in a vacuum, but not so much as part of a larger anime. The series was pretty much carried by the new characters instead.

​@Gabo2oo that's a good way to put it. If this started the anime, I think it would've worked out pretty well. Ash being dumb? Aside from the fact that it's kinda consistent to his character, he was just as silly in Gen 1 (&2). Iris shares similarities in character to Misty, and Cilan to Brock (aside from Brock's girl problem ofc). And they both work, all four a fun characters. And the stories were good, the characters, especially the rivals (except Trip), were great, the Team Plasma arc was intense, and seeing Team Rocket be this competent and actually threatening was quite an interesting watch. The main problem was its positioning in the overall story. On its own, its fine, but it was kinda doomed to fail the minute it decided to be a reboot since it made no sense narratively for Ash's mind to basically start at zero when he'd already been to FOUR other regions.
