When I was a young lad and played Pokemon Gold I always chose Cyndaquill, and because I didn't understand that the you were supposed to build a diverse team, I stomped through with nothing but Typhlosion and the Red Gyrados. I felt good burning water types due to being stupidly over-leveled though. Spinarak was another favorite of mine, but it tended to sit in my party because I didn't know switch training was a thing and didn't want to spend the time grinding it.

Black and white are low key the best pokemon games 1. You Almost instantly get your starter 2. After the physical/special split 4. Unlimited use of tms and hms 5. The realest evil team that makes you question everything 6. N 7. No mega evolution 8. No fairy types 9. The first female Professor 10. The Pokemon Center has the pokemart in it 11. Animated sprites! 12. Good rivals 13. Big pokedex full of unique pokemon 14. It talks about ethics and duality 15. No starter left behind! All the starters are picked by you and the rivals so that there isn't that one pokemon that isn't chosen and is lonely. 16. First reagon based on somewhere not in japan 17. Playable on the DS 18. Best music 19. Best female design that you can't change 20. Started the trend of 2 sequels instead of one 21. Hottest, bestest, mom

My feeling is that because Gen2 Pokémon were designed to exist alongside a selection from Gen1 in Johto, restricting yourself to just Gen2 might end up making things a bit weird. Still enjoying this series!

I know it is the whole point of it, but isn't only gen-2 + evo/pre-evo a little restrictive? I mean, it will be less pokemon than the original gen1 151 and in the long run it could be a little repetitive. EDIT: on the other hand, you will surely get to use some pokemons you would have have used otherwise.

Ah Johto... My brother's first Pokemon game. I remembered seeing my brother's gen 4 HG save file... In his team are Typhlosion, Nidoking, Togekiss, the red Gyarados, Octillery, and... a Hoppip. He beat the entire game bringing the Hoppip along with him. He didn't even evolve it! It's at level 100! What do you even need a Hoppip for?!

From a programming standpoint, I would assume the simular strength rule looks up the total base stats value of pokemon and finds others with a simular total, though they might have a totally different distribution and typing. But just a guess though.

Man, after hearing complaints about the starting tutorial being long for all of the later games but not personally having played anything past gen 3, I still feel like they are all the basically same length; talk to professor, get Pokemon, forced script to go to a different city. Mostly this game replaces the fetch quest with an early rival battle. And you don't even have to go back to the home town after that battle. Dang, I also missed the randomizer misspelling and I looked at it at least a dozen times before anything was said.

1:16:00 Remoraid's nature, quiet, is pretty good cuz it and it's evolution are really slow but powerful. Good attack/special attack, and that means it doesn't lose defenses and you can pick from a variety of mixed moves: Hydro Pump/Surf, Waterfall, Energy Ball, Ice Beam, Flamethrower, Charge Beam, Bullet Seed, Rock Blast, Psychic, Sludge Bomb, Signal Beam, Flash Cannon Cyndaquill's Jolly means you'd might prefer to use it physically, so Flare Blitz, Earthquake, Wild Charge, Rock Slide, Brick Break, Shadow Claw. And Swinub too: Ice Fang, Earthquake, Stone Edge, Strength and please get Ice Shard for it. Priority is always good.

I got an idea for a challenge. I call it the freshly caught challenge. It doesn’t start till you get poke balls. You cannot fight wild Pokémon for experience but you can catch them. Every time you use a Pokémon in a trainer battle you have to release it ( except for when you you face elite four since you cannot) it has to be on a game where you cannot gain exp by catching Pokémon. The only way you can level up a Pokémon before a fight is to use rare candies. You can use stuff like stones to evolve a Pokémon before a fight. So say you are going to fight Brock in leafgreen for instance. You should probably catch some Mankeys to beat him. You can use as many Pokémon as you want since you cannot grind levels to solve your problems. Only try using a legendary as a last resort. For example if you get stuck at the elite four legendary Pokémon tend to be high level so it could get you unstuck.

It would be possible to have a Honchkrow at any point long as you had a Dusk Stone, so that's not necessarily weird. You gotta take into account that same strength is primarily going to check for level-up evolutions.

It should be similar power to the original according to the randomizer. Then again, it also says the type theme has precedence over it so meaning other pokemon would be chosen (weaker or stronger) if it can't find a pokemon with similar power, maybe that's the reason for this later evolution pokemon appearing. Johto has a small amount of Pokemon, now that I think about it, so it's possible.

@@PokeMarioNerd Same reason with Skarmory. All the Steel Type encounter are incredibly powerfull Pokémon for early game. Actually the easiest one to face at this point (Foretress. ANd only because it can safe destruct) isn't even available at this point.

oh wow... I was still in High school when this game came out. really makes me feel my age, but a lot of my friends and classmates played this game with me when it was new, so I have very fond memories of it compared to other gens also I'm kinda sad at how little love I see for N's standard battle theme? most of it goes toward the final version instead. I always liked the standard version a lot more for some reason (especially here, where I get to enjoy it while watching christian seethe as he gets curbstomped in a forced unwinnable battle at the Beginning of the Game)
