Here's another matchup I wanted to do for a while now, mainly because these two are Ash's most famous companions during the first few seasons of the anime. I originally intended to do this battle in the Gen 4-engine, but I quickly realized that some of Brock's pokémon needed the improved Sturdy-ability to have a chance against Misty (they improved Sturdy with Gen 5. Before that, the ability was pretty much useless). It's still everything but an easy battle for Brock. Misty's Starmie alone can almost sweep his entire team if you aren't careful. I think I did pretty well with his team though.
I also tried out the new "End screen"-tool. The cost ist that the preview-videos at the end aren't animated anymore, but the tool is much easier to use and should also work on mobile devices, so I think I'm sticking with it from now on.
Credit goes to:
Silvereden2 (DeviantArt, made the backsprite of Brock)
NeoTendar (DeviantArt, made the Outro-Wallpaper)
I don't own Pokemon, it's owned by Nintendo and GameFreak.

Brocks team had a lot more strategy to it than Misty's. Had he attacked with Relicant instead of rest, Quagsire would out of the way and Brock had a chance winning with only Lanturn to deal with in terms of type. Ramapardos could have torn through it. Too bad Relicant is slower than Milotic or else it's could have rested and stood a chance. It seemed less about a type disadvantage more using common sense that made Brocks team lose.

You know what could be a cool matchup ? Cheren vs N. Would Cheren have been able to stop him if the protag hadn't been here/had failed ? Same with Ghetsis if Cheren wins
@22neptun
@22neptun 7 жыл бұрын
I think logically, N would win, because N was able to defeat Alder, who is a stronger trainer than Cheren. So N > Alder > Cheren

Damn! Brock did good as fuck tho for having a team with a disadvantage! 😂 I kind of wish he had Steelix tho, cus in the new series, his Onix already evolved into Steelix at some point. Instead of Kabutops and Omastar tho, he should've had Fortress and Crobat, it would've made a pretty big difference.

Bravo on the battle. Up for a bit of an experiment? Ever consider doing the main game Gym Leader fights but using the Rival's teams throughout the region's respective game? Like, for example, tearing through Roxanne and Brawly with just Wally's Level 16 Ralts... and then using his Victory Road team to challenge Wallace/Juan because the kid's only had the two battles. Layman's terms: how would you like to try playing each game as the Rival, just to see if they can actually get as far in reality as they do in the plot?
@22neptun
@22neptun 7 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a pretty interesting challenge, but the problem is that we have no idea when the rivals capture which pokémon and how exactly they level them up, so there would be a lot of guesswork involved.
@mayborneflower
@mayborneflower 7 жыл бұрын
I was thinking just straight-up using the teams the rival uses on you throughout the game. Like, going by Red and Blue, using Blue's Route 22 (or Cerulean City if you fail miserably) team on Brock, then the Cerulean City Team on Misty, his S.S. Anne team on Lt. Surge, his Pokémon Tower team on Erika, his Silph Company team against Koga, Sabrina, and Blaine, and then his Route 22 rematch team against Giovanni. Most likely with Charmander as his Starter. Seem more manageable and straightforward with the context?

Went decent-ish though we botched Misty and Blaine because the guy playing Blue gave up and moved on to the next teams (the... tiresome trappings of the Gen I engine to its toll on the guy's patience). Also, we botched Erika because I accidentally gave Blue's Pokemon Tower team a Growlithe instead of a Gyarados (as already stated, I adhered to the canon by using Charmander). Anyways, here are the results and replays will be available once Misty, Erika, and Blaine get do-overs tomorrow: -Brock: Using the Oak's Lab team was suicide and the Route 22 team struggled with just beating Geodude (a miracle in itself) but Blue's Nugget Bridge team pretty much decimated Brock without casualty... while screwing around the entire time. -Misty: Turns out that the poolside single lady was the major wall of this run. To merely keep up, Blue would need to use his S.S. Anne team (pardon the fact that Raticate is Level 20 in upcoming footage; Showdown wouldn't let me use it underleveled). Staryu falls rather easily to Kadabra and its Confusion but leaves a few dings before going down. The real problem child is Misty's Starmie due to its bulk and its speed. ESPECIALLY its speed due to the nature of Critical Hits back in the day. Assuming the A.I, is generous or stupid enough (and you get lucky with a lack of Crits), you MIGHT JUST get by with chipping some health down with Kadabra's Confusion (which will barely dent Starmie due to typing), getting off some (three at least, four is ideal) Leers with Charmeleon and Raticate, and spamming Quick Attack with the near-dead Raticate and still-fresh Pidgeotto for dear life. This one was brutal to say the least. Lt. Surge: With Blue's Pokemon Tower team, this fight was cake. Pidgeotto decimated Voltorb and Pikachu handily and left its mark on Raichu, leaving the path clear for Kadabra and Charmeleon to finish the job (and Exeggcute if need be; I may need to redo this fight too due to the aforementioned Growlithe mix-up though). Erika: Still with the Pokemon Tower team, this throwdown proves tricky. It really comes down to two major factors; the whether the A.I. prefers to poison you or put you to sleep that particular fight (hint: the former is preferred; expect lots of Wrap/Bind too) and how you choose your battling order. The ideal would be starting with Pidgeotto, wearing down Victreebel's accuracy, and hoping that it lives to Quick Attack until it falls. Then call in Gyarados to leave its impact with physical moves (regrettably, Thrash had to be subbed for Body Slam). From there, call in Charmeleon and both Victreebel and Tangela (which only knows Bind and Constrict) will fall without much fanfare. Charmeleon will also be an asset against Erika's final anchor, Vileplume for being faster... just hope you don't get put to sleep. In the likely event Charmeleon falls, Kadabra will be the one to cinch the fight, again for superior speed. Koga: Last fight with the Pokemon Tower team... and sadly the only fight I couldn't do in the Gen I engine (Species and Ability clauses; had to do it in Gen VI to allow two Koffings). Since Koga's team is slower and notably less stall-y than Erika, cheesing most of the fight with Kadabra made this a ROFL-stomp. Sabrina: For once in a long time, Blue finally sees a change in team with what he had at the Silph Company. Pidgeot get his time to shine by easily wiping out Sabrina's Kadabra... and, assuming Disable and Recover don't prove troublesome, that's where the battle stops being easy (sans Venomoth). Mr Mime is a tenacious Special Wall (send in the more physical Gyarados or Charizard to muscle past him) and Alakazam is a league all its own. To get past Sabrina's ace, my Blue player had to opt for an Alakazam mirror match and whittle away at both my PP (for Psybeam AND Psywave) and his own sanity until Sabrina's could no longer fight back. Blaine: Similar deal as Erika, only on a higher scale because of Ponyta and Rapidash's Fire Spin antics. Gotta redo this one too since the Sabrina fight REALLY took its toll on my partner's patience, prompting me to just give him Blue's pre-Victory Road team to get this over with quickly. Gyarados not having Water moves and Blaine having a powerhouse Arcanine as his ace didn't not help matters. Giovanni: The Rocket don himself... went down like a complete punk to Blue's pre-Victory Road team; second-shortest fight after Koga. With Pidgeot's immunity to Ground moves, Gyarados finally getting Hydro Pump, and Alakazam coming into its own by finally getting Psychic, Giovanni ended up getting Roxie'd. Hard. Good thing too, I had to neuter Dugtrio (wasn't allowed to let it use Dig), Nidoking (had to switch out a move), and Rhydon (who lost its OHKO moves to the OHKO Clause) just to run the fight. And that's that. If you'd like to give this a shot yourself, go for FireRed/LeafGreen. I'll be sure to publish my Red/Blue findings soon.
