Overall i think the exapnsions is a good thing i'd much prefer it to buying a platinum, bw2 or ultra sun and moon etc where its esentially the same game with 2 extra features and some more end game. However i can understand people only being interested in what 200 old pokemon they are adding to the expansion. You have to remember with pokemon the base storyline and the adventure you go on is mabye 10% of the time you spend on the actual game. Some people play through the campain and are done but alot of people play competitive pokemon on the laddder and pour hours into maiking teams and battling people. For them the pokemon enetring the game is there sole focus as this is the majority of the playtime for sword and shield for them. When it comes to the dex cuts i can also understand people fustrartions not being able to bring over there favourite pokemon through pokemon home but i think for the balance of the competitive pokeon meta it was a whise decision to cut the dex and by adding in certain pokemon through expansions it can function like heartstone or magic the gathering with card rotations alowing for an ever changing meta through the games life cycle. some people wanna just blast through the main story line and get straight to battling and others just want to play the story and are then done with it. Overall this DLC system probably benfitis both crowds of people as players will return to the game to complete more of the galar story line and come back to try out new and old pokemon that have not been in the game before while giving game freak a bunch more cash and meaning we don't have to buy another pokemon game entirely and have sword and sheild become redundant. Nice video Hannah, really enjoyed it!

I missed this out of the video, so I’m glad you wrote such a detailed argument about balancing the meta! 😊
@kylekid104 жыл бұрын
In all fairness with the whole meta thing in competitive it’s not REALLY a good argument. The base Pokemon game is extremely non-competitive and more gears to the aspect of having fun with the Pokemon ya have so removing them from the base game is kinda unnecessary If they wanted to shake up the meta in rotations they could have easily had a list of Pokémon allowed in competitive gameplay based on the standard DEX. Same with the types of rule sets they have now like “unbers” and “anything goes” rulesets. And these rulesets should never be forced on the players just a option for ranked gameplay. If little jimmy wants to fight his friend with a mega requasa vs his friends mega requasa we should not limit their fun cuz it’s “non-competitive” give players more options not fewer Case in point there is no reason they would have to remove the old Pokemon bank and charge you more to get your old Pokemon basically out of prison. If the issue is animation they have the most profitable franchise in the world so I’m sure they can afford staff to make the same 2-3 animations each Pokemon makes. I see your point with competitive. But there are ways of achieving that than just gutting the Pokemon out. Especially when most Pokemon assets are recycled and despite that still not available in the game

I definitely am somewhere in the middle on it, but I'm VERY much with you that I hope DLC means that it gives them time to slow down and spend more time polishing and fleshing out games, as well as adding on, rather than yearly releasing. SwSh felt smaller to me, but I did still like it, and I'm happy to see it get bigger!!

An extra thing about the new 200 pokemon - no one pokemon game has ever had _all_ the pokemon catchable anyways. It's just that you could trade or import them from other games. The functionality to be able to trade in pokemon for free that you wouldn't have been able to get without spending more money (be it on a different game or the DLC) has been done before in Pokemon and is entirely normal. So it's weirdly late for people to call that out as some kind of bad practice.

"You obviously don't care about the game or the devs, it's entitled bullshit" - not true. We are not entitled by complaining about a company becoming complacent as to the quality of its products. We all have the right to do that especially as it's a $60 base game being sold to an audience consisting largely of parents who don't know the details. The game is good, but it would have benefited from being delayed (akin to Animal Crossing). Releasing DLC is not going to alleviate 'the grind' on developers, as you called it, just means there's an add-on rather than a base game. Generation 5 was the peak of GameFreak. Where have tailored gym leader themes gone? Dedicated postgame? Difficulty settings? Beautifully animated sprites? They didn't do so well, and so GameFreak did what any company would do and pared back on the investment they put into their games to appeal to a broader base. GameFreak had no faith in the Switch, but we have lost faith in the care GameFreak put into their games. Labelling this as 'toxic' however, appears quite antagonistic, as healthy discussions like these promote better standards.

I love the idea of an expansion pass! I'd also love if the expansions allow them to make the game a more difficult than the base game which, as someone who never touched a Pokemon game before playing Shield, is incredibly easy (its a kids game so i'm not surprised but even so, a lot of kids games can be very challenging which is part of the fun). With expansions they have the opportunity to actually raise the difficulty level without worrying about scaring off new or inexperienced players and id love to see them take it in that direction

My issue is that there are two $60 core games (historically always two games you're pressured into wanting each generation). Then, was it $30 per DLC?, which needs to be purchased for Sword individually and for Shield individually. Which, full disclosure, I do own both Sword and Shield and pre-ordered the DLC for Shield as that's the game I'm doing my main playthrough. So ... I'm kinda hypocritical I guess? I couldn't care less about which Pokemon are included. Some getting left out is just logistics. You did make some good points I hadn't considered about being able to keep the same team for more adventures than one game. And with Pokemon Home being released, you really can do that with Pokemon from other games, so that is very cool.

I’m so looking forward to the expansions! I’m much happier that they are giving us new areas and Pokemon and gameplay, instead of just making a sword and shield 2. It’s cheaper than a new game, and with this we get new content, instead of just a reused map and characters with a slightly different storyline!

Honestly the DLC means I'm more likely to buy the game, knowing that there will be more story and places to explore, and especially knowing that it build upon the team/experience you already have from the main game, rather than just abandoning them as you've said. I'm excited to see where this goes and I hope it's successful because I think this could open a lot of doors for pokemon in terms of enriching the world

Really great video, agree with the vast majority of it. My only slight frustration was the lack of post game in the main content. I remember as a kid playing Heart Gold or Platinum and that awesome feeling of thinking you'd completed the game in beating the champion, only to have a whole new region or area left for you to explore. In Sword/Shield however it did feel like a very sudden conclusion, and considering I'd paid £50 I was a little disappointed. Still think DLC is a great idea, just feel it should have come alongside a strong post game

As soon as I finished watching the trailer i brought it, and personally i like the direction the franchise is going. The ones who created the whole bad image about DLCs being paywalls was EA, who are a mess, whilst nintendo's record of paid DLCs have been pretty good. The part of the expansion pass i am most looking forward to is the exploring of the crown tundra, as I will get to relive my first few times entering the wild area again basically.

You made a lot of good points on this video and hope to see more like it. In my opinion, I think it's down to the type of pokemon player you are. If you are invested in each pokemon and want to take time to enjoy the story and characters whilst trying to 'catch them all' (pokemon) then I don't think the expansion would be a problem - more quality content. However, if you just want to play a game just for the sake of finishing it then you're really going to miss the point of this, and really any pokemon game. You rightly mentioned that this process takes time and to expect detail to be done quickly is not taking into consideration the people who work behind the scenes. This is an issue I personally feel a lot of gamers forget and in the future hope the community and industry improve on.

Casual vs non-casual players
@EverlastingEclipse4 жыл бұрын
I personally can't wait to take my ridiculously overpowered team of shiny Pokemon And stomp on the new areas and Pokemon As an overall casual player, I do like the dlc idea. It adds more fun, and we get a nice buffer while we wait for the next core games. Most of the people complaining as others have mentioned, are the hardcore competitive players. I can understand their reasons, but sadly they are the loud minority. There's plenty of people who do like the idea, and do want the dlc. And they're at a good price too!

Eh your comment at the beginning of the video made the most sense to me. Yes, they are seeing how modern games are doing it by adding DLC and such. But it just gives them a reason to charge more money. And it's funny to compare the beginning to the end. The anime was used to sell the games, but now the games are being used to sell the anime. Which is where this "anime direction" is coming from. Seems to me that because certain fans have spent so much time on the franchise they can't let go.

warning for abit bad grammar and wall of text i dont think i am doing any aggresive hate speach here but this is just my knowledge becus of time that flys by and i dont mind diffrent opinion on stuff its always intresting to see others point of view dlc is fine i just think we need a pokemon team that create pokemon games story for older fans aswell to spice up the series like pokemon Colosseum and gale of darkness did wich both kinda went a more intresting direction with the pokemon games aswell and they were not made by game freak and those 2 shadow pokemon games was abit limited on the pokemon you catch but still worked fine pokemon games focus most on the competetive type but i guess they should maby consider a pokemon stadium type of game again as side project for that fan base fandom these day can overreact on stuff + we got temtem now aswell that got a content roadmap out now so game freak gets rivals wich is for the best the only thing i wuld argue is maby we dont need 2 version of the same game..... i wuld argue there is a better way to solve the problem by creating games to solve some of the fan base worrys even tho if they made a mmorpg they wuld be able to do alot more but thats up to them to decide alot of us 90s kid that grew up with pokemon wants game freak to accept that their fans are also growing older and want a abit spiced up version even hard modes i know it is abit entitlement in it but kinda agree digimon already did that with their games and their digimon adventure tri series they knew their fans were older and now they are rebooting the first series so hopefully it bring younger fandom i can also add in the detective pikachu movie kinda helps on showing the potenial of pokemon games if they change they becom very best story to main char be a police or detective while they can keep the battle stuff in the game on the sword and shield dlc only hyped to see the region pokemon i cant say the giga forms makes me feel any hype me as much as mega evolution did made me feel more hype i for some reason went full breeding mode in sword so gona use my shiny team on the dlc content and my shiny yellow galar slowpoke is ready and hopefully they change the awfull code trading system they have now in sword and shield... its to easy to make the same code as any of the other mil player that plays the game with the 4 number code thing sry thats the only thing i feel abit mad abut... i will end the note that pokemon games have alot potential if they change some stuff from time to time and maby should try to get some other game creators that want to go a diffrent direction with their games since even the fanmade version people make on emulator that shows there is alot diffrent stuff they can do with the games

I am very excited for us to have DLC instead of an entire second version of the game. I can understand some players being frustrated because they wanted to play the game with pokemon they got many games back and finally when they got the opportunity to do that they have to pay for it as well as pokemon home. Perhaps they just don't care about the new storylines and stuff and just want their maxed out dudes to demolish competitive. It's not where I stand at all I can't what else Pokemon Company bring to the Galar region!

Going to have to agree to disagree here. Most of the people *I* know who were upset about some pokemon being locked out of the original are people who have carried *partial or entire teams* through the games via the trading systems. They're upset because at the time of the original release of Sword/shield they were basically told "We decided they're not in the game anymore so tough shit." Now I will be fair and say I kind of knew this was coming, because we're heading up to 1000 pokemon. It was inevitable they would pull the brakes on including them all. But on top of the fact that for me, this was perhaps the weakest and most poorly put together storyline with tiny sub-par environments, and then they want to charge me another 30 bucks? It was the final nail in the coffin.

I love the way they are doing DLC with this, 2 parts, adding more than you usually get extra in the 3rd game for coming up to half the price of the game is worth it. With Pokemon I like to have the hard copy of the game and I tend to get both copies, I can also see myself buying the DLC for both versions of the game because i've really enjoyed the game between them both I have had over 400 hours and I can easily see that doubling with the DLC. The constant moaning about the Pokedex being cut in my head is pointless, the game shouldnt have 900+ Pokemon in the main story, you should want to experience the new Pokemon and see what they have to offer and if you are given the choice to use the Pokemon you know and love you are more than likely going to go for them. Adding the extra 200+ to the DLC also gives the DLC more to work for, the 400 for the dex to get the shiny charm was a challenge yet it was not over the top which made it an obtainable goal in a nice amount of time especially considering we did not have access to Pokemon Home at the time, the addition of the next 200 will be easier to obtain through transport but it gives the life of catching them all back in 2 increments through the year giving the game purpose again and makes it reengaging, it was about time that the games went the route of DLC it offers more for less and from the looks of it will make the game feel fuller.

i'm looking forward to the dlc, as someone who'sbeen bringing their pokemon through the gens since gen 3 it does dissapoint me certian pokemon are restricted however it's understandable given how many pokemon there are, the day pokemon ends or i can no longer transfer up any pokemon will be a dark one indeed xD however i do find it hilarious the the ''god'' pokemon Arceus is banned from galar & unown are not only banned but their one knowable move isn't in galar either, it's a shame most of the online features are found on pokemon home or pokemon home for the mobile which the division between the two apps is a big negative however i find a comic irony that in hull where i'm from we have Kcom and everyone knows it's shite but it has a rather big monopoly on the internet provision and in galar we gey Ycom one of the least purposful online functions in a pokemon game that i can remember aswell as a town called hulbury wich mirrors hull in being a dock town and leads me to wonder if galar is mainly yorkshire xD
