I personally never really played any Digimon game ( I guess except for Digimon rumble Arena 2, basically a smash bros version, which was really fun) but most of them looked rather boring to me. But I really enjoyed the TV series of them. I would guess that's from where most the Digimon enjoyers come from, not from the games.

Even as a digimon “fan” growing up, digimon world dawn was the first and last digimon game that I didnt immediately put down after the tutorial. For a 7 year old it was pretty hard not just to follow the story but understand the leveling/evolving system coming from pokemon. Only ever ended up finishing about 1/3 - 1/2 of the game before picking it back up in high school…just to not finish it again
@ByTheStorm
@ByTheStorm Ай бұрын
To be honest? Most of the games kinda suck. Outside of Rumble Arena and maybe Hackers Memory ( Really need to pick that up again), they’re awful. The first World is just a VPet simulator that would’ve been better on the Gameboy Color or Advance. The second one is I don’t even know. World 3 is an inferior Pokémon clone that relies far too much on grinding that I didn’t even know it had a story. And it’s not even fun like Demikids. Even with the so-called better 2003 version, it was too much of a chore. I did like the Battle Spirit games, though. I honestly didn’t give most of the DS games a chance and didn’t know about Cyber Sleuth since no one had a Vita. It’d be nice if Bandai took notes from the earlier Final Fantasy games and Pokémon to actually nail a decent sense of progression. Because the games become an inaccessible slog that makes them feel like a waste of time. Whereas with Pokémon even with Sun, I feel like I’m moving in the story versus running back and forth to raise the creatures. There’s far too much of a reliance on strategy guides, especially with Hackers Memory which are essential to get certain monsters because it’s convoluted.

@ByTheStorm
@ByTheStorm 25 күн бұрын
@@fullmetal_3961 I tried one DS World game and that was enough for those. Didn’t like the battle or convoluted evolution system. Save for Championship, which wasn’t that bad. The Playstation trilogy is meh because 1 and 3 are perfect as portable games if 3 wasn’t a massive grinding slog (and had a decent story to boot that didn’t rely on the player buying a strategy guide to discover), and 2 bored me. Tried World 4 once and never again because it was a tie in for a terrible movie. The Rumble Arena games aren’t half bad, though. The Wonderswan Anode/Cathode Tamer was boring as f, Battle Spirit 1.5 should’ve been the one ported to the GBA, and never gotten to D Project because it wasn’t fan translated as far as I know like the card game (the PSX one never interested me like the Pokémon one and the WS version is awkward to play.). Out of all of these, I’d only argue that Hacker’s Memory is the decent one, though I don’t have an opinion on Survive. And even that has issues. If they had the plot and story like Final Fantasy (or even like Pokémon) and had a common thread where one could transfer their Digimon into a better entry instead of constantly starting from scratch, they’d just need to have less glitches and more marketing like Pokemon in order to bring more in. Are there any games I’m missing?

At the beginning of the video, when I was trying to think of what the best Digimon game would be, having played Digimon World 2, 3, Championship, Dawn and Dusk and knowing stuff about 1, I was thinking that Dawn/Dusk would be the best choice, because they don’t get out of control as easily as 1 and Championship do, and they’re more fun than 2, and they’re not a hellscape like 3. I remember really enjoying playing through both Dawn and Dusk-I played Dusk with an Action Replay when I was a kid, and then I played through Dawn without any hacking just a couple of years ago-so I was really surprised that someone who seems so much more experienced with gaming than me would have such a bad reaction to it...

@@autumnphillips151 you also have to remember Dawn and Dusk were made with Digimon fans in mind. If you know how evolution works in a general sense in the franchise(as an example) then the evolution trees and stat requirements might not be as daunting as to a new player, but if your new then without a proper tutorial it could come off as tedious since it could get very confusing.

@@FlashStatic It's more painful in how much you have to grind to Digivolve your Digimon. The mechanics are a lot more straightforward when it comes to how to get the Digimon you want (it's all linear evolution trees that you manually choose what you want to get instead of 'Oh, you accidentally let this Digimon's Speed stat get too high, so now when you Digivolve it you'll get something completely different from what you were trying to get'), and the combat is that nice, simple, turn based format.

World 3 has a bunch of small but really annoying problems: 1. You _need_ a guide to play it, I have no idea how you would figure out some if the backtracky nonsense it asks you do do otherwise. 2. It really needs some fast travel system. Spending 10+ minutes walking from city to city while dealing with the same 5 trash mobs and loading screens just isn't fun. 3. The grinding. A big selling point is unlocking new forms and moves, and there is a lot of them, but if you want to get them you gotta do a lot more than just fighting everything you encounter already. 4. The battle system is very basic and there isn't really much point to training all 3 of your party members rather than just 1 and giving the others revival duty. 5. Loading is slow as sin. But this one is a technical issue and common on ps1, so I can't really blame the devs for that too much.
@Evilriku13
@Evilriku13 23 күн бұрын
@@OneEyeShadow 1. I agree (or just read the manual) 2. totally agree, but have to agree on the point that you get EXP through the backtracking, which makes me wonder if that was half the point behind it. 4. Well you unlock the card game at level 5 with all party members you got around, or you train till level 15 for that so.. pick your poison I guess? 5. This point I really don't understand, like it's a 2002 PS1 game where less painful loading times, fast travel unlockings etc were already statements for RPGs, and this game just didn't care or the community never found out about a backtracking option in neither NTSC or PAL version!

Cyber Sleuth is a good game, particularly on the switch where you can cheese XP by leaving your system on. The only complaint I had about it was some very spotty localization. The Golden path through the story is fine but any side road you travel, and you have to travel on a lot of them, get very "all your base are belong to us" very fast.
@TheTriad001
@TheTriad001 Ай бұрын
To be fair the reason for that was because Cyber Sleuth was never meant to come to the states. It was originally Japan only until a massive petition came out. Bandai Namco saw how big it was and said alright and released a, admittedly very rushed english version. But because it sold so well in the states that it's "sequel" had an actual localization budget behind it.

I think a lot why we put up with this kind of shit a kids, is that (if you were lucky, like me) we just had soooo much time to kill, and it didn't matter that much if the game wasted a lot of it with grinding or pointless fetch quests. I played a lot of Runescape, WoW, early Pokemon games, etc growing up, but I wouldn't consider touching those as an adult with a full time job - my free time is more valuable than that now. I still occasionally play Pokemon Showdown, though, because I can just do the actually fun parts for me: build teams, then fight strangers with them!

I totally understand this assessment thought, I feel like I have a pretty good sense of direction, never use repels in pokemon, and do side quests all the time in games that have them, but that isn't for everybody and this game can be seriously bogged down by those factors for someone who doesn't like that sort of thing.

Digimon World is a chill game. It is an accurate representation of the Digimon concept. Everything you do in the game does advance your progress. A mon dying is a part of it. The cycle of raising a mon effectively is the main gameplay loop. Then there's exploration that results in getting things that make raising a mon much easier. I would recommend going in blind, but having a guide ready if you ever feel a little stuck or confused. In general the game gives you a lot of info if you talk to everyone in the city. The slow upgrading of the city is also really rewarding. Raising mons may feel like a bit of a grind, but you get into a comforting daily routine.

I feel the reason it was so difficult to find a game people unanimously liked is because Digimon has a record of changing up the formula with almost every new game. So you'll get people that love the tamagotchi like experience of Digimon World or those that like the traditional JRPG style of Cyber Sleuth. While some variety is nice in a franchise on occasion, the level Digimon has taken it to fans don't know what to expect so there are many folks with strong opinions on what makes a good Digimon game.

Such a rollercoaster and funny experience. In my personal opinion the best way to experience Digimon is by watching the original anime series instead of playing a game. In addition, it seems Pokemon is deep within your heart since some comments seem a bit too biased: Seadramon is not a worm is a sea snake (I guess?), digimon can speak as any other weird animal in other franchices lol Would be good to debiase those feelings so you can experience adn embrace the next franchise! It's really interesting how Jaiden's experience shows that digimon is not a videogame franchise. It's a tamagochi franchise that has a lot of anime adaptation, most of them completly independent from each other, and sometimes gets some games, most of them in different genres.

Well the one she is playing is a part of the Digimon story series a long chain of loosely connected games. Typically connected by character cameos or the plots of Yggdrasil/king drasil and are all rpg style games. The World games are traditionally an open world breeder game closer to a console tamagotchi. Then you have rumble games which are the fighting game of the franchise. Then you got survive the first visual novel. Trouble is these games are not like Pokémon and usually can’t be beaten without grinding and planned and raising for certain evolution paths. You will have maxed out Digimon by the end.

So the grind was basically a the start just to get 100% data of armadillomon and goburimon. But have to say, totally worth it. Starting the adventure with your favorite partners make the experience way more satisfying. Also the game is actually very easy to break XD. Just keep creating digimon and DNA evolve your mains to those just created to improve their stats. You can easily get a rookie way stronger than a champion or even ultimate/perfect. I know that the game NEVER explains anything but as long as you can discover the mechanics and some secret tips, the game is quite easy. Last boss was easily defeated by my Dorugoramon, MirageGaogamon and Apollomon. I finished the main story as a gold rank tamer even.

This was a great laugh to watch. 🤣 It was really funny to hear a Pokemon player point out the weird design choices of Digimon games. 🤭 It is a shame though that you didn’t pick Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth and its spin-off, because aside from long story moments, the games are really good and have bone of the problems in World Dawn. Digimon Rumble Arena 2 on the PS2 is also a fun platform brawler, though albeit not a standard Digimon game and more of a gimmick genre, but what a blast to play. I still play it today. One of the things I liked about Digimon through was the variety in their games. They always had something different or unique about them. Whereas, Pokemon always had a few spin-off games from different genres, I never gave them much time because the main series was so long to play with lots and lots of hours. Even Pokemon Go just never did it for me. Thats the problem with having one good formula, any deviation seems like a waste of time - except Legends: Arceus of course which is 🤩. I should say that I am a Poke & Digimon fan. Digimon Cyber Sleuth for me began to feel like a mainline formula, and I’ve noticed that because of it, I’m struggling to play any digimon game (except Rumble Arena 2) other than the cyber sleuths.

Jesus Christ is the propitiation for the whole world's sins. They that believeth and are baptized (with the Holy Spirit) shall be saved; but they that believeth not shall be damned. Those led by the Holy Spirit do not abide in wickedness. *God is ONE manifesting himself as THREE;* the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit! Bless him! *For these three are one.* As I am led by the Holy Spirit, nothing I state is a lie, but the truth of God. Anyone who tells you differently is misinformed or a liar. They do not know God, nor led by him. Anyone who *claims* to be a Christian and is against what I am doing, and where I am doing it; the Holy Spirit does not dwell within them, they lack understanding. They know not God, read his word, and their religion is in vain. Do not hear them, they will mislead you, the lost cannot guide the lost.

I would honestly say to a pokemon fan that Dusk and Dawn are the most pokemon like of the games. Definitely pick up and put down type games, similar to how pokemon could end up being a grind fest before exp share was a thing. However, I'd reccomend the Switch bundle of Cyber Sleuth and Hackers Memory. I'd bought the latter on ps4 because it looked like a 3d Dusk (and was on sale). But the pick up and put down part makes it more palatable than, say, a full blown video game (if saying that even makes sense, they're not a six hour session, more a, couple of hours before work the next day, kinda pace.) Cyber sleuth takes the DS game and makes a lot of it better. Sure it can get repetitive, but at least it's far less frustrating. Hackers Memory gives new side quest mechanics too. I watched most of the first run on TV, quite a lot of the second, and some of tamers. Had the clip on digivice with renamon on it in high-school, it went off a few times at almost the worse times haha. But like, I honestly prefer the games after playing them. I think the translation of the anime was aimed at younger kids and the age demographic never went up. Tried to watch the ghosts season and couldn't get past three episodes. Probably why my mother couldn't stand digimon as a whole and always changed the channel xD

Cyber Sleuth and Survive were the least egregious examples, but they're not free from flaws.... especially survive, and I'm not talking about the fact it's a visual novel :P ... seriously, who goes into a visual novel and complains about text? Yeah if you're coming from a Pokemon background I think Cyber Sleuth is a good starting point, it's easy to wrap your head around with a Pokemon mindset. Digimon World Next Order is a good example of what I consider a more "traditional" Digimon game, where the focus is more on raising and bonding with your Digimon and the fighting is kind of secondary, but it's a very specific type of game that if you aren't sure what you're getting into will probably be frustrating until you get the hang of it.

I really like Cybersleuth, Hacker's Memory because it scratches the specific itch I have, though it probably isn't the best representation of the series "vibe". Finding a game for that in this franchise is really difficult for some reason. That said the old Data Squad game for the ps2 did a good job of making your digimon feel like characters while giving them lots of room for digivolutions so...maybe Data Squad? Maybe? I don't know, I enjoyed it anyway.

The most real thing about being a digimon fan is honestly just enjoying the designs. It's a very cool concept with some of the coolest looking creatures in the genre. I was and still am a bit more of a digimon fan than pokemon, and even I found those part tedious to the digimon games. I think the only issue really was that they kept trying too hard and forgetting essential things like those details a bit 😅... All games had their own fun. Digimon one had the classic 1 party man team, with many combos, digimon 2 had monster capture theme, and so on. But back then also many players had zero idea what maps were. Like seriously, from some old memories I had from games of that time, they rarely had maps. Like Breath of fire series or the first FF games. So I think the reason why there was so much tedious like search and dungeons was because of the style back then, and the lack of the idea of side quests. But thankfully today people have learned and came up with more ideas little by little XD. Maybe one of these days we will get a remaster or a new game of their genre with all these trademarks that will help shine the games a bit better

Long time Pokemon and Digimon fan. I prefer the Digimon Anime and play Pokemon for the shiny hunting and breeding mechanics. I played Pokemon Red at/near release and i've played Digimon World 1 and 2. Never played this game personally. This video is def a good view of the struggle for a good game. I enjoyed the newest World game for the tamagotchi aspect, but the sleuth games were prob the best mechs. Ignoring the game of choice, I would say that World 2 being grindy is no worse than some of the early Pokemon games. They were very grindy and often monotonous. Decent story, but not a lot of replay value without grinding. Most of the Digimon games I played were similar grind.

Granted if you dont really care too much about what team you take to the end game you can probably cut it down to 30-40 hours because there is just so many cutscenes. But honestly the story and twists including hackers memory I really didnt expect to be so damn good like most games dont have that good of story telling and characters you end up caring about damn sure not a monster collector game.
