*y e a h* Only digimon game I’ve played (aside from a few low quality mmos) is cyber sleuth and while it’s an interesting game, it’s gameplay isn’t all that engaging most of the time and it is real easy to loose track of the main objective. I mean…. It looks hella pretty and I greatly enjoy the digimon designs, but it’s just- Stale? Repetitive? Idk it’s like imagine persona 5 but with only 3 status types and instead of a cool ass palace to travel through, it’s just *several* pac man mazes that are supposed to be ‘levels’

When I saw the beginning of this video I immediately thought "OH! She should play Cyber Sleuth then!" But then she chose the grindiest, fetch questiest, Digimon game. She didn't even mention the biggest perk of Digimon, which is de-digivolving and going down all the different digivolution paths. That's my favorite part.

Yeah, I actually had to hand-draw the maps when I originally played this game. Feel bad that I never uploaded those maps to gaming sites now! The issue was I grew up gaming with my uncle, and my uncle actually did his own strategy guides, enemy notes, etc., EVERYTHING for his video games. This was also back before gaming sites started cropping up and you could just look up how to do the thing. So I grew up with makin my own notes and stuff for video games, and also just assumed this was normal, and had hand-drawn maps of every area that really needed it. Along with where I could buy certain items and their costs. My personal favorite for the starter game to try and get into the series is Digimon World. You raise one whole Digimon, and you get traumatized every single lifecycle of your Digimon watching it just DIE over and over and over again. But my issue with the game is that it can accidentally hard lock you. If your Digidmon dies at the most inconvenient time and you try to leave the starting area with your little baboo digimon and you've just enough points to recruit a certain Digimon, he attacks you literally right outside the starting area with no way to avoid him, like a dick.

Like are you talking about how their world design went from insufferable to navigate to fine but having samey dull environments throughout each game? Legends arceus is not okay. It's one of the most gutted sequels ever made and has less Pokemon than every generation in the dedicated handheld series barring generation 1, there are also no multiplayer options, no held items, no abilities, and they cut off loads of moves. It seems to me like Arceus just wanted to solely be a better open world than breath of the wild, which it is. The weather system in Arceus changes gameplay in less annoying ways by changing the flow of battle as opposed to changing the flow of traversal as BOTW forces you to change clothes and work around rain. There are also less repetitive rewards, obviously a Pokemon has more variety in being a reward than a korok seed or a spirit orb and traversal options in PLA are better by having more variety and having no limitations. Yeah good job arceus for being better than a game which in turn is just an awful sequel to its own franchise instead of being an improvement on the smash ultimate of RPGs from 1999-2017. And by the way, gen 7 is actually the proper way to freshen up a formula as it takes the individual repetitive aspects and changes their functions rather than removing them altogether. In Legends arceus, gyms are removed, in gen 7, the gyms are dungeon biomes to explore and catch Pokemon in. Arceus removed badges, Gen 7 turned badges into an amazing held item. Arceus changed the entire structure of the world and designed the rides around it, gen 7 used rides instead to improve and build upon the existing route based world formula by removing the need for HMs.

@Harry A Digimon story game coming out in the near future that may be okay at best to plain awful at worst isn't going to beat out the consistent quality of the expansive Pokemon series, at least the pure handheld ones which are truly expansive. A working formula is actually good for a franchise and Pokemon is one that improves upon its formula the most. It honestly gets this reputation of having a repetitive formula just because it's a turn based RPG. No one would dare say this about smash, Zelda, 2D Mario, or Metroid. I mean as far as I'm concerned, the reason Pokemon games are "repetitive" is because of other Nintendo games around it.

Pokemon used to be so good. Now we can’t really even Nuzlocke them. You know it’s downhill when it’s hard to make the game difficult or raise the stakes at all. I would personally appreciate less regional variants and more megas. Those were AMAZING both in design and strategy!

I love Digimon World 2. Its definitely grindy and weird but you can customize your team really heavily and the dungeon crawl is really cool too. It's one of my favorite RPGs of all time. Digimon world 1 is extremely weird pet raising game that doesn't explain anything to you but it's kinda cool since it's a pretty unique game. I only figured out anything in it due to having excess free time as a kid. I didn't really enjoy any other digimon games much.

I have memories of 3 different digimon games: - Digimon World. I got good memories of it (besides the pooping part), and replayed it recently, but I feel it's best experienced when you want to commit to the game entirely and not just complete it and move on to the next game. I've heard there's been a newer Digimon game with the exact same gameplay but more relax on 3DS, I'm actually looking forward to playing it someday. - Digimon World 2. I also had good memories of this game... But oh boy did that not age well. I tried replaying it recently it, I pretty much instantly gave up because the attack animations take FOREVER with no method of skipping or speeding them up. At least, not without emulator speed up, and I don't like emulator speed up. - Some platformer fighter Digimon game on GBA that I can't remember the name of. I remember it was fun... but short. Like, think of Smash Bros, but only Classic mode with around 10 characters. Well, it was fun enough that I had started dreaming about what if Pokemon did the same gameplay but with every Pokemon (They just never can't include a good amount of Pokemons in their side games!) Also, it feels like none of the games actually agree on a common setting. Like, Digimon World is like the anime where a person from the real life enters the cyber world, but then Digimon World 2 is just one world, no "real life" or "cyber world". And I don't remember seeing humans in that platformer fighter game. Honestly, I personally think that the best introduction to Digimon... Is the anime. That one aged much better and is actually more mature than I remembered as a kid. They also did a remake of the original anime recently... But they did it right after I was done rewatching it (´・ω・｀)

You know, for all the issues and bugs that Digimon World 1 has, it's still a decent game. Tough to get into, perhaps, but still quite enjoyable once you get the hang of the Digimon life cycle. And yes, it's basically a glorified tamagotchi. I'm aware. But that doesn't make it any less fun to throw onto my PSP and take with me when I travel.

Depends. Digimon is something with a lot of potential, hence why so many games are so very different. Some of those games can be great depending on the person. I have honestly enjoyed some digimon games far more than I have enjoyed any pokemon game but I do believe that to mostly be a taste thing. I do find it rather interesting to look at upcoming digimon games though, wether it will fall in my taste or not, just because they can be so different that it is kinda fascinating to see what the next one could be like.

as a Digimon Fan myself you're absolutely correct. Really if you "want to get into Digimon", just watch the tv show Adventure 1 and 2, and maybe Tri and Final Evolution. The show is great! The games are all jank haha. I personally love Digimon World 1 the most and any game that replicates its strongest points (how Monster Collection makes your town better over time) is almost an instant win for me, but it is supppper janky and grindy haha. I also agree that Cyber Sleuth may be the best of the games simply because its a straight forward JRPG, but you're again correct that it feels way more like an Atlus SMT game than a Digimon Game haha.

I mean: if Badger ALONE could organize a whole SFM scenario while possing as every model and coordinating on what each model does while still interacting correctly with each other, all by HIMSELF. @FlashStatic Most Digimon fans didn't get into it because of the games, they got into it because of the anime. Digimon games have sort of the opposite problem as Pokémon; whereas Pokémon reuses the same formula with very few changes, almost every Digimon game is a completely different genre and so they never get the chance to polish off the rough edges.

I understand the pain you went 😂 even I used cheatcodes for my playthrough because of the amount of time it took to JUST WALK AROUND THE MAP , and in one ds game, I remember that I got stuck in the game! Because all my Digimon were maxed out level! But the Digimon I had to fight against was much higher in level than mine!! So.. I had to restart the whole game ( already was through a lot of the story) and then choose different evolutions of the same Digimon which could grow stronger! I don't remember the name but it still was really fun!! They have some of the best designs, designs which Pokemon can never come up with

Honestly I had fun with Digimon cyber sleuth, It had a pretty unique story and combat felt like a pokemon battle but with three digimon instead of one. as well there is an island to help raise digimon much like the Chao Garden from sonic.

At least it didn't make it difficult for me to advance in the game, it was very entertaining, but the worst thing is the constant random encounters forcing me to carry healing items and thus be able to continue fighting. I finished the game after 76 hours of play and I also managed to finish the Digimon Dust

Came back to this after Digimon World: Next Order released on the Switch. That one is honestly as good as it gets for a proper Digimon raising game experience gets in the modern day. It's way easier than the original Digimon World I feel and really gets the classic Digimon V-Pet gameplay down pat and let's you put it down to play on handheld. A game like that I feel works best when it is accessible and able to be played in bursts without feeling like it grates on you. If you want a more simple turn based RPG rather your challenging Monster raising sim, definitely Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth.

I'd try digimon world 4 as a starter. Granted I'm a big fan of RPGs and beatem ups, so a bit biased, but it was my first digimon game. It also has some confusing elements, and doesn't explain much, it still has a good story, is pretty fun, and even has some co-op elements.

You should've tried World Championship for the DS. It lacks a story plot since it's main focus is battling in matches and training your Digimon for the World Championship but it's enjoyable to play if you just want to catch, train, evolve and battle your Digimon.

The movies/TV shows are probably the best way to get introduced to the world of Digimon and its strange rules. Also I played the companion game to Dawn, Dusk, and I do not remember most of the issues mentioned. Then again I love isometric walk around until you find a battle games like this.

@MASSIVE SWORD & CARDS No Digimon Next Order. It's the first REAL sequel to World 1. When I started playing it I felt actual nostalgia, and had actual fun fighting the Digimon and leveling them up. Highly recommend it. It's World 1 with modern graphics, and some quality of life improvments.

Well can definitely say cyber sleuth fixes two of the main issues she has There is a decent minimap of the non mazelike areas and you can gain a "security program" that is basically just a repel fairly early on

Woof, wish i could have help deter you from this one. Great job as always with the video! If I was to try and summerize my personal thoughts. Every single digimon game has problems. Every. Single. One. The fandom has generally accepted this but usually prefer the games where the flaws are less noticible to their indevidual preferances. You seemed to understand by the end ^__^; So with digimon, you have to discover what is the make it or break it mechanic and decide on that alone. Dusk dawn has a lot of evolutions and raising mechanics which is really appealing to a lot of players so they can ignore the maze and battle grind as they look past it as a way to just re-volving their digimon. but on the other hand...its mindless mazes and endless battles which get tiring. It's probably why people have taken a liking to Cyber so much as its more of a standard JRPG and digimon story. I've played them all. I both love and hate them to certain degrees, and always hope they will get better, but even the new(er) Digimon Survive, which is a tactics game of all things, was a MASSIVE waste of time and money, and not worth looking any further into. Well, at least we get to look forward to Digimon World: Next Order. . . and the flaws wont be a complete break
