Believe it or not there is actually an explanation. Every force user has a sort of force shield around them that mitigates other force abilities that come from people about as strong or weaker than them. It cancels out in a way. That's why you dont see light saber duels entirely made up of force attacks. you gotta wear your opponent down and tire them out a bit to break through their defenses.

Me and my buddy have been trying to beat these gyms but there is a guy that has a 1,200 flareon and he owns half of the towns gyms that I live in and today me and my friend plopped down some lure modules in a park and we met the guy lol. So just a PSA for all the awesome Pokémon go players out there. There is a poke stop right near my house and since the game came out, I have been visiting it quite frequently. All has been good until one day as I was visiting the stop, a group was right next to it. I walked up to them, hoping to meet some friendly trainers and they robbed me. Turns out, these guys had been using the app and putting a lure on it to attract people and kids with phones to steal. Just letting you guys know to please be careful out there.
