when i had my fight against red in pokemon heartgold, it was the most intense shit ive experioenced in my life because all i did was time his pokemon out with a shit ton of full restores while getting hit left and right until i was on my last full restore, his lapras died by struggle and i finally won. it was scary as fuck

The hilarious thing is that all these years, back when I first got Pokemon Gold and Crystal, I never even knew about Red at the end of the game until I saw a playthrough of Pokemon Gold...my face was literally just stuck in awe of this newfound surprise.........to say I was *definitely not* prepared is an understatement. I, having just challenged and beaten the Elite 4...was absolutely *destroyed* ...and I don't regret *any* of it. I had fun.

There's a place between Johto and Kanto, a hallowed mountain called Mt. Silver. People say only the strongest and most vicious pokemon lives there. It scares even the bravest of the trainer, the only place that you haven't set your foot off after your long journey. You already on the very top now, collecting all the gym badges from both regions, beating both the champion (Lance) and former Kanto champion (Blue). So, you've made up your mind, hoping that you'll get new challenges along the way. You climb higher and higher, but seems the mountain never ends. It's very cold, dark, and the pokemon there are relentless. You almost running out of supplies and finally, there's a light at the end of the tunnel. You've reach the summit. The light is blinding, there's only white as far as eyes can see. It's hailing but somehow you catch a glimpse of a person that standing in front of you with small yellow pokemon in his shoulder, staring at the cities far far below. You can only see his back, but somehow he seems familiar and you realize.. it's him. You knew the stories about him: The pokemon trainer who single-handedly destroyed an entire evil organization, the trainer who have bested the dragon master, and the former rival of Blue, taking his title just right after he became a champion but then goes missing, never contacting anyone for these past 3 years, not even his mother. The legend that people only dare to whisper, The Pokemon Trainer Red. Equipped with this realization, you walk towards him. Your footsteps echoing along the way and he turn around and facing you with his piercing gaze. His most trusted companion, Pikachu, goes down from his shoulder and stand in front of him, ready to battle at the command of his master. He's not saying a word and neither will you but you understand that this is going to be your last challenge, your final battle, at the highest point in the region, against the legendary trainer himself. Then, you hear his theme starts...
