The way I see it, this is more of a outdoor school activity than a gym battle in a official sense, with stamps being given out like some sort of mark to help keep track of which students have done well in regards to the subject that is terastalization. That’s why they’re still given stamps if they lose, they’re being graded, not aiming for the Pokémon league.

While it’s true Liko lost her battle I wouldn’t say she’s a worse battler than Roy. She actually terastalized her Pokémon at a much better time than Roy, after her magical leaf smokescreen. Then went on offense. Roy waited until after Brassius terastilized and his moves then all had a type advantage. Had it not been for her disadvantage I think Liko would’ve won. Also Roy failed to notice the rain and lost his rival battle while Liko won hers. I think they’re both getting stronger but I think Liko’s tactics are a it ahead of Roy.

tbh in the original kanto series Ash had only beaten like 2 gym leaders the others gave him the badge out of pity

​​@@UmbreonxUmbreon Ash actually won four of them fairly. The others were given to him out of pity or respect because he did a heroic deed. He would have beaten Misty and Erika if not for Team Rocket interrupting, he defeated Giovanni's Pokemon who were being used by Team Rocket to get the eighth badge, and Sabrina technically lost by forfeit because she couldn't give Kadabra commands thanks to Haunter making her laugh. A lot of the gym battles would have been won if they got to play out fully, but the writers interrupted him a lot. He took down Surge, Blaine, Koga, and Giovanni (Team Rocket using his team).

the one thing i dislike is how little they use their other pokemon, but honestly? because this anime has been very good with story and stuff I think either they will be coming back to get actual gym badges or things will otherwise ramp up still. the gym leaders seem to be looking for how (strategically) they use terastrallizing so I think a point will be reached where they will be expected to fight and win battles. But also, this story seems to have a very different focus than the games and the previous anime seasons so we'll see what happens ig.

In my headcannon, Gym leaders nerf themselves a bit to match a set level of difficulty depending on the gym. Katy seeing how liko performed, basically went full power on Liko. Considering that bug-tera teddiursa completly counters flora I think Liko did well.

Well tbh it's not realistic for Liko a new trainer 10 y/o girl she shouldn't be beating someone who has spent their lives battling. Especially since Liko isn't shown to be as battle oriented as Ash (yet)

This isnt really gym battling though. It is a test of learning about Terastalizing. Later on the anime will prob do actual gym battling if they do the 3 story arcs from the games. I can see Each of the 3 characters tackling each story. Liko doing gym challenges, Roy doing the giant pokemon story and Dot doing the Bully story. I hope they do that cause that be dope.

@UmbreonxUmbreon just makes sense for the school arc :v Also the opening might be foreshadowing it since Dot was with Penny and Liko was behind Nemona and her Friend . Roy was alone so idk if Arven gonna be introduced later or not.

I'm gonna be honest, When I saw the three Main Characters who will travel Paldea, Journey Style, as we know, I thought they would follow each one of the three main story lines from the games as their main plotline. Like one wants to beat all gyms, one wants to help Arven, and the other wants to help Penny.

Fun fact : Charm Make The Oppenent Pokemon attack lowered, and teddirusa use it over and over on floragato, this is why you had to pay attention, also they add sango on that episode to show us what failed terastal training look like

Craig get up!” killed me!!😂 I was thinking the same thing but honestly she’s not as experienced as Sango who is an elite explorers member and Flor is at a type disadvantage. I think with the program it’s just testing if you have the talent and are a responsible enough trainer to use terastal. It’s not necessary to beat the gym leader and enter the Pokémon league to become champions. That’s not everyone’s dream. Geeta just wants to make the trainers in Paldea stronger battlers. ( She needs to cuz some of their gym leaders , E4 and a certain champion are kinda trash.)

I honestly think its just for battle experience. The stamps are just to prove that they Battled the gym leader. If they didnt sign up to compete in the regions league then i dont see why they would give liko and roy a badge . Since there not trying to go dowm ashs path .

Gym Leaders are coaches to help trainers reach their destiny other than just collecting badges for Pokemon Leagues or Conference Tournaments. Still like to see more Pokemon at their disposal during Horizons.

Well it’s because during the Ash era, Gym Leaders and Elite Four trainers has multiple Pokemon in Gym Battles. I just thought that one day, we could see them battle with more than one Pokemon.

The only difference in this than the games and Ash's gym battles are the goals why take the gym battles. This one focusing only on terastalize on how they can master it. It is like a school course. Meanwhile the games is basically like the adventure the treasure hunt where you prove you are worthy of champion itself by defeating them all in a pokemon battle. The same goes for Ash, although yeah in the first season most of them were given also but with that we can clearly see Ash was not ready although his lost was also team rocket's fault in the league, he brought a Charizard who can't even obey him in the league and we don't even know how long he will last if team rocket didn't ruin it.

I get why you're upset over it, but you literally keep explaining why it's different and then acting like you don't know why. They aren't being judged on their battling, they're being judged on how effectively they're using Terastalization. They aren't getting badges because they aren't gym challenges. If they were doing a proper Victory Road challenge, I'm sure they would have to win and get a badge for it but this isn't that. Especially in Scarlet/Violet, they've emphasized that Gym Leaders and Elite Four members are more than their station. They have day jobs and they also work as educators for the students that come to them. This is just them leaning into THAT rather than having them be static roadblocks to the plot.
