Pokemon Obedience Explained-Why Your Pokemon Won't Obey You

You might be wondering: Why won't my Pokemon obey me? The truth of the matter is that Pokemon obedience is based on the gym badges that you have gotten within the game! This means that a Pokemon not obeying you represents your Pokemon level being above the one that your highest gym badge represents.
You will know that your Pokemon is not obeying you when you see some of the following messages when trying to attack another Pokemon:
-Blaziken ignored orders!
-Pikachu is loafing around!
-Raichu won't obey!
-Pignite began to nap!

Same with an Onix I had in the beginning of the game. I put up with him for a bit as he was the strongest Pokemon on my team, but eventually I got fed up and put him in the box!!! I found a stronger Onix and released the original one. Disrespectful thing.

I know it's a very old video, but It's important to note (because there seems to be some misconceptions about obedience) that disobedience *only* affects "outsider" Pokémon (those that do not have your trainer ID number) such as *traded* or *event* Pokémon (at least that's how it worked in the non open world games.) In all mainline games from Gen I-VIII, if they are your *own* Pokémon, as in they share your player’s ID number, they will *always* obey you no matter what; even if you only have one badge and your party is all level 100. All in all, obedience is essentially a fail-safe designed to prevent the player from sending over their best Pokémon from a completed save file (or Pokémon Home) and utterly dominating with overleveled Pokémon. However, the game doesn’t prevent you from doing the same with your own Pokémon, so as a “fail-safe” it’s actually useless. My theory is that Pokémon have undying loyalty and respect towards the trainer that originally caught or bred it and other trainers must *earn* the respect of Pokémon they didn't catch by winning badges. For example, if your player's Trainer ID number is *000123* and your Pikachu’s Original Trainer (OT) number is *012458,* you *will* need badges to control that Pikachu (because it's an "outsider") but *will not* need badges for any Pokémon with the ID *000123.*

All my shinies from Let's Go Eevee won't obey me because they're now on Sword. Ungrateful creatures, I could have sent them to be ground up alive into candies, but I won't because they're rare. I just wanted to add something i don’t know if this is only in sword and shield if you catch a Pokémon yourself and get it to a high level it will still obey, but traded Pokémon will not obey unless you have enough badges it’s also the same for transferring Pokémon through Pokémon home, but they will for some reason work in raids

Something that can be done to counteract this, is to capture a pokemon from the user who begins to play, pass it to the one who has access to all the zones, that the same one trains you in places like the league with the sharing experience, and then that I'll give it back to you .... And that's it! This is how I got a 50 level raticate destroying everyone and obeying me ;)

In regards to Legendary Pokemon you can use Pokemon Home to transfer them between the game you capture them in and a game you just started. for example Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl may have limitations like Darkrai being restricted to just those games and Legends Arceus but there's a loophole to the Darkrai event. by doing it you make Cresselia appear on the map and she can be traded to Sword and Shield despite needing an event to be made available to capture. also if anyone wants to have the lake trio from Sinnoh in Sword and Shield even to see what they look like in HD then with the recent 2.0.0 update to Pokemon Home you can do that.

I know this is old but level obedience is only for Traded pokemon. Meaning if its not your OT pokemon (original trainer) or if the pokemon doesn't match your ID then it won't obey you. Your Pokemon that you catch yourself or have your ID will obey regardless.

When I was battling Hapu in Ultra Sun, my Azumarill (Level 1 Adamant Aqua Jet Marill I bred in OR) reached level 67 and didn't obey me. I still managed to win the battle while using it. (Ula' ula Stamp makes level 65 Pokemon obey you.) Edit: I didn't even grind at all throughout that playthrough. Traded Pokemon with fast growth just level up that quickly. The rest of my team was at around level 54

I once ran in to that problem in my Ultra Sun when I was doing a trial I believe was on the second island and my Drapion which was traded to me by a friend did not obey me. It was a level 73 Drapion and I didn't progress that far.
