It wasn't found through trial and error. Well, perhaps some trial and error. If you are familiar (and i mean really familiar with code) you can abuse how the game interprets the data/ IE the ditto glitch, you trick the game to save a string of data (your sp.att) and see what happens. The person who found the glitch took a guess and figured out what number causes it and what pokemon it gives you. And in the glitch you are thinking of, someone realized that the game would most likely freak out if you have two battles all at once. S/he was right and built upon that idea.

In all likelihood, the nidoking variant was probably discovered after the trainer-fly glitch was explored more. People likely took the info about setting up that glitch and tried to figure out the earlier possible area they could make it work in.

Actually, you don't even need to capture Missingno or 'M. Just encountering it will multiply the items in the sixth slot of your inventory by 128. Unforunately, Encountering it or most other glitch pokemon will result in the hall of fame data being corrupted permanently. This is because the game tries to save when certain glitch pokemon encountered. Also 'M appears because of the player's end of name marker. The end of name marker is the following values 0 80 0 0 so that's why you'll see 'M at level 80 and level 0.

Just recently discovered this channel and been looking through some of this older stuff. The way most of these glitches work is by changing certain values in memory to create a sort of mini program then using what's known as an arbitrary execution glitch to activate it. Arbitrary execution glitches can be used to hack a game into just about anything or sometimes even hack a modern game system. At the end of the video he said to capture missingo (missing numbers) but from my experience you don't have to catch it and it's actually better if you don't catch it as it will slowly corrupt your game. The reason missingo exist is because of the way data is stored in the game, each pokemon has a reference number in game (which should be the same ones he listed above). When you enter an encounter the game basically loads the pokemon from it's reference number but the value for that reference number can be anything from 0 to 255. Obviously this game didn't have 256 different pokemon so when the value doesn't match up it's just pulling up random data as if it were a pokemon, that's also why there's different variations. I also noticed that he didn't mention item underflow or what we always called safari zone glitch. I'm not sure if item underflow was discovered when this was made but it essentially gives you direct access to the games memory allowing you to catch any pokemon and warp around the map with ease (it makes a 100% single cartridge speedrun possible). The safari zone glitch I'm familiar with (and used extensively as a kid) is pretty well known though, you simply walk around safari zone until time runs out, walk/surf to seafoam island without any trainer encounters (I always just beat them before trying it so I wouldn't have to worry) then surf up and down the mud on the side of the island. You'll encounter pokemon you were supposed to encounter in the safari zone but it will be a regular battle. Also from my understanding you could legitimately catch mew (not using these exploits) as a random encounter but the chances were so low that you might never find one even after putting in hundreds or even thousands of hours.

I tried the level 100 Nidoking glitch in my virtual console yellow. I found that finding a level 4 Caterpie doesn't matter. I encountered a level 5 Caterpie and Nidoking still showed up.

In the LVL 100 pokemon red/blue glitch you can catch a lvl 100 Gengar instead Just when you are fainted due the poison in viridian forest just go ahead to Blue, faint his first pokemon and then growl to the second pokemon 6 times, it is hard to survive so lvl up your chamander before. when you growl 6 times to his squirtle you are able now to faint him, then go to viridian forest and there you go, Gengar.

Nope, i dont think so. But what you can do is do the lvl 100 Mew, so you can have 2 lvl 100 pokemons much early Also if you catch Missigno be sure to put Rare Candies as you 6th item in your inventory, you'll have +99 rare candies, with that you can lvl up 2 pokemons to lvl 100

Missingno will corrupt your game at the past of time, but it can be fixed by reseting the game data. According to people of Gamefaqs, no one has ever heard about a missingno corrupting a cartridge. I've catch Missingno a lot ot times but in Emulators, never tried on a real gameboy, i really recommend you search more about so you dont fuck up your cartridge.

The way the game stores values and the way these values interact with each other is fairly well documented. You can use similar glitches to encounter any arbitrary Pokemon you want, by manipulating Pokemon stats while in that "in a battle but not" state.

Regarding the Quick Mew glitch: Make sure you have an empty space in your party when you catch it. Otherwise it'll go to your PC and then it'll lock up your game when trying to get it out.

And you don't even have to go near him, when you use teleport go to the 2nd gym and battle the guy swimming, ko is 1st Pokémon and use growl on the 2nd 6 times, then after you beat him save and walk along nugget bridge/road/can't remember. Your menu should pop up. Close it and you'll encounter your lvl 1 mew

You forgot to mention that you can catch Glitch Pokemon in Glitch City, and some of them will freeze the game. Such as the lovely Glitch Pokemon in Yellow only known as Female Symbol. When you encounter it, its cry is an infinitely long jumble of random snippets of sounds from other parts of the game (it's different for each battle), so the game soft-locks while waiting for the cry to end. Usually the cry sounds kind of creepy. With the sprite for Female Symbol in Yellow looking like a blood smear, it's pretty a pretty spooky experience. Other Glitch Pokemon (the names escape me right now) can even erase your game. I've even read an account of someone catching one of these abominations and it damaged their game so badly that it no longer runs.

As for those people that said it corrupted their cartridges, that isn't actually possible, as the game's data is stored in ROM (read only memory), as such this data cannot be altered in any way without physically modifying the cartridge (I'm such a nerd). I don't think those people are being entirely truthful.

I caught a missingno on my original red version cartridge several times without repercussions and then I must have caught one of the malicious ones because it not only erased my game but would not recognize any new saved games on that cartridge.

420marryJ There's a way of wiping the RAM of a cartridge if I remember correctly, it was some sort of button combination, that should fix the problem. If not, the only other thing I can think of is removing the backup battery temporarily to completely wipe the RAM. Edit: the button combination was Select+Up+B on the title screen.

I can confirm the Lvl 100 Nidoking glitch works for Virtual Console on 3DS, however there are a few details this video leaves out that I'd like to add. First off, the hardest part is running into a wild poke in front of the trainer but it does happen just be patient. Second, buy as many poke balls as you can because you will miss a fair amount of the first ones you throw to catch Nidoking and you don't want to run out before one actually hits. Hope this helps!

Whats awesome is in cerulean city, you can actually catch 2 Mews. I just did so yesterday following another guide. The other mew is caught by teleporting from the same first guy then going and fighting the first guy in the gym, knock out horsea, growl 7 times at shelder, then lose the fight, head beck up to nugget bridge and you'll be attacked by mew.
