It's a great game, its like a combination of fire emblem/ final fantasy tactics and Risk but with Pokémon. It takes time in old japan with warlords and you need to conquer it or some other mission. You recruit characters who befriend Pokémon.

It seems like it's more of a problem with getting GameFreak to develop one of the spin-offs. Almost every single spin-off that is considered good was developed by a third party and published by Nintendo. I'm hard pressed to think of a spin-off made by GF, honestly.

How cool would it be if we got a pokemon game that was completely open world where you can take on the gyms in any order you want. Make it so each gym leaders team and levels depends on how many badges you have, while also increasing the number the more badges you have collected. You could also make the routes level/ badge based where the rare/pseudo legendaries will only appear when your high enough level/ have enough badges before they start spawning in

There are quite a few ROM hacks that are open world. R.O.W.E and Emerald Enhanced are probably the two most popular but I'm pretty sure there are some others. Haven't played R.O.W.E but I have played EE and can say it's pretty solid
