Actually, the pokeballs white area is made to look transparent to allow the pokemon to be visible inside. As for pokeballs that are uni-coloured like the Dark Ball or Heal Ball, the Pokemon inside glow with a specific colour when held by trainer to alert which pokemon he is about to use. I got all this throught the Manga aspect!

It's quite sad that I remember this. But it was in pokemon episode 80. When Ash and his indigo league rival/friend Richie had their pokeballs stolen by team rocket along with many others trainers. They were able to recover the bag of stolen pokeballs and Richie was able to identify his quite quickly, as his pokeballs had a small unique sticker on them, Ash, on the other hand. Had to check each pokeball individually to try and find his own pokemon. The fact he could not tell the difference straight away means that there is no special reason as to how Ash can tell which pokeball is which. It's not with telepathy nor is it to do with the ball being see through. As he couldn't even tell which pokemon was in which ball. It's simply down to the way he wears his pokeballs on his belt. He keeps them in a specific order so as not to get confused. Case closed.

Just like how you remember your parent's birthday date. If you care about a pokemon, you'll want to learn all about them. That said, true trainers must memorize their pokemon's moves if they want to really be called "trainers". I mean, they're "trainers", right?

My theory is that Pokeballs have a Pokemon inside of them but each pokeball has a different feel depending on what is inside and gives off a form of energy, trainers can detect where the energy is coming from and identify it to be specific to that Pokemon. For example, Charizard may give an energy that gives thoughts of Charizard, therefore the trainer knows it contains Charizard.

Maybe you can tell which pokemon is in the pokeball based on touch or weight? For example: A pokeball containing Charizard would probably feel warmer than a pokeball holding Blastoise. And a pokeball containing Snorlax would probably be heavier than a pokeball containing Caterpie. Another possibility is that the top of the pokeball is actually semi-transparent. You can't see through it from a distance, but up close you are able to see inside the pokeball. This may not be true for the anime, since it's often suggested they cannot see inside, but it could easily still hold true for the games and it's already shown to be the case in the manga. One last possibility is a bit more technical... perhaps, like each trainer has an ID number, each individual pokeball has a specific signature electronic pulse. Maybe the pokeball vibrates so subtly it can't be seen vibrating, but can be clearly felt when the ball is held.

Well, in the pokemon adventures manga, the red part if the ball is translucent so you can see who's inside...but I also heard that you may be able to tell by the way the ball feels... Like maybe a sort of aura or presence? Perhaps charizard 's pokeball would be hot and other such things.

That's what I would do. But it has been demonstrated that some trainers are able to identify pokemon in their balls even if the circumstances induce randomness, for example Misty tosses them in her backpack in no particular order, or that one episode where Meowth was picking pokemon out of a pile inside of a Pelipper beak.
@Hazarth
@Hazarth 8 жыл бұрын
That is true, there is one particular instance i remember of Ash at St.Anne where he traded a Butterfree for a Ratticate, then in the battle against rockets (i think it was, I'm working from memory here) he picked a pokeball from his belt, shouted Butterfree and Ratticate was released. Clearly not being able to recognize what the pokemon inside was. This would make sense if he either used the positioning on the belt (remembering which was butterfree's pokeball, thus expecting butterfree) or if the pokeballs are somehow marked and can be recognized by their texture, which made him think that partical pokeball was the one that butterfree is in. This proves that whatever system trainers use, it is not dynamic and doesn't change with the pokemon inside automaticaly. I would guess that trainers personalize this based on their needs and prefferences. Ash uses his belt and remembers the order while Misty (because she uses a backpack) will mark her pokeballs in some way (or maybe she has them on belt inside her backpack)

ImOrt4LGaming This is interesting. The reacurring pattern here is that pokemons can identify other pokemons in pokeballs while trainers can't do that easily. I wonder if all pokemons are a bit psychic in nature.

Subconscious use of Aura. Trainers become familiar enough with their own pokemon to sense just which one is inside which ball. Therefore they can pick out their own, but not anyone else's. e.g Ash can call Charizard ten times out of ten, but he actually needs to check what's inside anything unfamiliar.
@JesseDuffyThePoisonousTaste

He says Ash has been shown to answer someone, when asked "Is that charizards Poke ball?" his answer, without even looking at the ball, is "Yes." that to me suggest that the trainer has some kind of connection with their poke balls / pokemon, perhaps they can feel the energy of the pokemon within and sense tem. Just a theory. Though, I know Ash has also been shown throwing poke balls in the beginning without knowing what pokemon is within.. but if my theory were correct it could have been just because he was a beginner and didn't know what he was doing or how to properly read the poke balls.

The theorie for just needing the pokeball maximised and calling out the pokemon's name isn't valid. In The Orange Island League Episode 109 - Pokemon Food fight, Ash attempts to call out Charizard against a Gloom. "I choose you, Charizard!" *Squirtle comes out* "Squirtle return. Charizard, GO!" *drops pokeball, falls and breaks on rock, Snorlax comes out."

i think in the episode that ash meet and battle brock at the pewter gym ash had some kinda cincture that he put he's balls in, so trainers might put their pokeballs in a certain order and then identify then that way, and i know that ritchies pokeballs in the indigo league appear with some kind of mark or some kind of sticker
@person3848

maybe pokeballs are textured. or perhaps when a pokemon gets turned into the red energy seen in the anime that energy exudes the energy and traits of the pokemon. so charizards pokeball exerts heat and feelings of aggression. but it only happens when the pokeball is regular size, so u could just feel them all until you found the right one. charizard was so excited at the prospect of battling dragonite that even misty, who wasn't even in contact with the ball, could feel it.

Pokemon are stored as data. So it is easy to say that pokeballs are able to send and receive data (pokemon going in and out of the pokeballs). Because it is a children's show, it is unnecessary to go into extravagant detail about how the pokeballs work. However, it may be interesting to theorize that pokeballs are synced together and can share the "data". Trainers can only carry six pokemon on them because data sharing only works when there are 6 pokemon maximum, hence why pokemon are sent directly to the PC. The reason why you need multiple pokeballs is because for every pokemon you own you need "storage space". the poke ball type just determines the capture rate. So in terms of knowing which pokemon to send out, it's more like the trainer is telling the pokeball which "data" to send out. Just my take on the theory.
@ruki4929
@ruki4929 11 жыл бұрын
In the games, you keep your pokemon in a certain order. Maybe the trainers have a pattern of pokeballs on their belts or something? Just memorise where you keep the specific pokemon? It wouldn't be hard, considering you can only carry 6 at a time.

Proto, in the manga, "Pokémon adventures" The red lid on the pokeball is actually see through and you can see a smaller version of the pokemon sleeping inside. This also makes sense to the anime where in the first few episodes when Ash catches caterpie he battles once then releases him quickly after only to find that his bug was asleep. Ash never marked his balls, and yet Misty still guessed charizard, so I assume that she could make out the flame on it's tail and it was enough to make her question if it was charizard or not. Sure the anime does not support this but it does make sense in the long run. Maybe they just didn't know how to draw them in an anime version always moving around in a tiny form like that in so many scenes? Either way that is my theory on the pokeball selection method, because it would work for everyone no matter what, and the designs on the balls could just be for decoration, as with contest participants and there seals, or with younger trainers who are a bit rash and just throw more randomly without thinking, a mark or something to identify the ball quicker could be used. What do you think about this theory?

I think that is where the whole, "They put certain balls in a particular place." part comes in. Ash put Charizard in, (For arguments sake let's say the 5th ball pocket.). After reaching for the ball he knew right away which one it was but Misty would have had to look to see for herself which if I remember correctly, she did look first before asking.

I think, if my memory serves me correct, in the Pokémon Adventures manga it was mentioned that the Pokéball is slightly transparent, so if looked at it closely you could see the Pokémon inside it, which is why there are four little windows inside the Pokéball. RurouniHiro Well it's not REQUIRED, but you can use a heavy ball on heavier pokemon for that extra catch rate. Otherwise, you can just catch any pokemon with any pokeball. It's not like there are rules that you have to use a certain ball for certain pokemon. For example, if I really wanted to, I could go out and catch the heaviest pokemon (Groudon) with a regular pokeball. Sure, it would probably take a while, but it can be done.

Idk why this is a theory .-. My thinking is that when you play the game and rearranging the pokemon, you're actually just moving the balls around on your belt/vest/whatever you use to hold them. They're in order and it wouldn't be too hard to remember 6 Pokemon. PLUS in an episode in the anime where Gary catches a pokemon, he simply takes out his Pokedex to see all the info we get went we look at the summary section (name, type, moveset, etc.) of a pokemon. He even can tell that it is a weak pokemon so from that info it shouldn't be too hard to use the Dex if you ever forget which pokemon is which. Misty, James, and Jesse repeatly show that there is NO special method to throw a ball w/o looking at it and know EXACTLY what pokemon it is. Misty would accidently get Psyduck, Jesse once called out Lickitung by mistake and Wobbuffet a few times, and James occasionally calls out the latest pokemon that enjoys "hugging" him. Really calling out pokemon is just something EVERY trainer must do as you are forced to use your pokemon quite often. Asking how trainers know what pokemon is which is like asking how they can remember each pokemon's moveset :/
@achen917
@achen917 10 жыл бұрын
***** If you look at the very FIRST time Jessie ever used Lickitung it turns out to be an accident. Seriously, this is just basic memorization, not some weird connection or whatever. Its like having 6 boxes and knowing whats in them. Nothing special.

Right, its a muscle memory thing. You know the order you put your pokeballs on your belt or however you have them, so you know the third one is this pokemon and the 6th one is this pokemon already. I have seen it in episodes before where they accidentally mix up their pokeballs and they struggle to find the pokemon they want. A famous instance of this happens on the SS Anne I believe, where Team Rocket and the "Heroes" mix up their pokeballs in the chaos of the ship sinking and Ash and the guys end up with Arbok and Weezing(Or were they Ekans and Koffing at the time?). So they don't know what is in the pokeball by any marks or anything, they just are very good at remembering the order they place them in on the belt.
@achen917
@achen917 10 жыл бұрын
JDeppFan2272 Exactly my point. Instances like this clearly show that trainers only know what pokemon is in which ball either through simple memory, special markings, or using a pokedex on the ball. Unless there is an episode where Ash puts his hand in a bag of random balls and somehow knows what the pokemon is without any sort of outside help, this theory is nothing. In fact nearly EVERY time the group does a special challenge where they do get a RANDOM pokemon they say something along the lines of "I wonder what pokemon I'll get" This episode really just made me cringe as I am just so used to Game Theory videos that give solid evidence and show that a ton of research was ton, while this video was kinda... not well done at all. I do enjoy protomario's videos as there are a lot of theories that get you to think. I just honestly feel that this may be his worst theory video that was just pure speculation :/

Yes in that episode he had stars on his poke-balls so he could identify them. In the same episode they along with Ash's were in a bag full of shrunken poke-balls and he found his while Ash used trial and error to find his. In the new season of the anime it is show that they can move the poke-balls when inside. They are also shown to hear whats going on outside the poke-balls. My guess is that they hear whats going on in the poke-balls and respond by moving to tell the trainer which one to use.

Maybe no one read the Pokemon manga. In the manga, poke ball's red part is transparent, like a glass. Therefore the trainer can actually see through the pokeball and tell which Pokemon is inside that even when the ball is ping pong size. If it is not the real Pokemon that the trainer can see, at least it's a image that identifies this ball to this Pokemon. Actually because this theory comes from official works, it think it's kinda of a fact.

+Pika chu See this is a likely response and it makes sense from an organized standpoint. a Trainer has a belt with 6 slots for his Pokémon and the order they are in is defined by the trainer to better aid them in remembering who's who. This is more prevalent in the show as unlike in the games a trainer does not summon the same starting slot pokemon but can chose between any of their six. This concept does not really work in the case of Misty and others who don't have an organized system and just throws all their balls into one bag. A Related and better question may be How do they keep this system straight when they do things such as summoning more than one/two Pokémon at the same time. I mean how many times does Ash and his cohorts toss all their Balls into the air to summon every Pokémon in their possession? He then has to collect each ball and return them to their exact location on his belt. Then he has to remember which ball belongs to which partner since he cannot recall a Pokémon into a ball it was not originally captured in. So it seems to me that there must be some form of abnormality for each ball that defines who it belongs to. Be it the type of ball in the case of Tododile or a marking on it as with Pikachu's. Richie marked his Pokéballs with stars so that he would know what ones were his, where Ash had no idea from his from every other trainers balls in the bag. So It seems logical that the differences are subtle in that one cannot notice them from a glace as ever normal Pokéball looks the same as every other one. However a trainer knows the difference between each of his own balls. Kind of like how every member of an animal species looks identical to onlookers but somehow members of that species can tell the difference. Examples include Zebra who we know have slightly altered stripes like fingerprints. The same is true of spotted cats and tigers. Or how Twins look identical to us yet parents can usually tell who is who.

My theory is that the pokeballs that contain the 6 (or less) Pokemon on your team are connected in a way similar to a pc, where they're all in a central database and the balls are just conduits to that database, so no matter what pokeball you threw, by calling out the name of the Pokemon you want it will be pulled from the database and released accordingly. There's no fact to back this up, just an idea I had.

GentlemanStudiosHD Good theory, but not true. Because multiple times team rocket takes pokeballs and Ash can only call out the ones he has left. If it was true, he could return one and send another after them, but each pokemon have their own pokeball. If one tries to return a different pokemon in a different pokeball it won't work

I have a question specifically about Pikachu and his pokeball. do you remember when ash was watching tv on the first episode and a trainer threw his onix into battle? it came out in a white light. with that being said wouldn't ash's Pikachu have been caught from sinnoh? it has a thunderbolt sticker on it and when Pikachu came out yellow electricity surged out of the ball. wouldn't that mean the sticker was actually a sinnoh region contest seal?
@em74692

what I think is trainers have Pokémon stickers on their pokeballs because in sinnoh one episode dawn goes shopping and gets a piplup sticker for her piplup's pokeball I think that would make sense even if it was small the trainer could glance at it and see what Pokémon's pokeball it is. also I have a theory that a trainer might recognize outside marks on a pokeball like a scratch from when it was dropped or a dent on the bottom if it fell. Please like this comment I would like everyone to see what I think. thanks!

Didnt they cover this in one episode? I think Ash says each pokeball has a certain "feel" to it, which is how he is able to tell them apart (I think its the episode where team rocket steals a bunch of pokeballs, including Ash's and someone asks how do you know its the right one?). I suspect the same applies to all trainers. The ball probably emanates something like a vibe depending on the pokemon. That or trainers literally have a sixth sense about it.

They just put the pokeballs in a certain arrangement on their belt and remember what order they put them in. BAM, mystery solved. Oh, but Misty keeps them in her bag? Maybe she has separate little pockets inside her bag like I do in mine. *mind blowing* Jugglers juggling pokeballs? It's going to be no surprise that I say "maybe they just keep an eye on them and don't mix them up". Okay, I'll assume for a second that everybody in the pokemon universe is handicapped and can't remember the position of 6 balls that they keep in the same order everyday... Maybe the pokeballs weigh differently depending on the pokemon inside. A pokemon with an Onix inside may weigh noticeably different from the trainers Marill. Maybe two pokeballs with two similar weighted pokemon inside can still be noticably different to each other because the trainer has had the pokemon a long time and is used to the minor weight differences (you know, like a normal person who does two similar tasks regularly). Obviously the pokeballs would still weight a very minimal amount but would still be enough to notice a difference. Or maybe you can notice via things such as temperature as well. A warm pokeball probably doesn't contain your Articuno whilst a cold ball probably doen't contain your Magmar. Again, different temperatures would be noticeable to that trainer. This wouldn't work for much outside of Ice and Fire types but it could still be there.
@linkno1
@linkno1 10 жыл бұрын
***** I assume that all pokemon are like real animals, I.E they all weigh differently. It would just depend how much difference in weight those two Onix actually have. Over a period of time it would be easier, I can tell the difference between a few things that are identical just by touching them because I've had them a while. Even if it's nothing to do with weight in that case and both things are EXACTLY the same weight, there is something different between those two objects that only I can distinguish even if I don't know what it is. I assume Pokeballs would work the same way without a special theory just for Pokeballs. Or, back to the original that the trainer just remembers what order he placed them in their bag/belt/pokemon dispensary rifle. Assuming he doesn't put one/both Onix straight in the PC, he would get used to the minor weight difference eventually.

@linkno1
@linkno1 10 жыл бұрын
Lina Al-Jarallah Some people like a certain Pokemon and desire to have more than one in their party? Many trainers have multiple of the same Pokemon in their team in the games, for whatever reason. In the games, it's obviously better to have a variety of different types/pokemon in your team to have an optimal setup. It still doesn't stop that one Fisherman from having a team of 6 Magikarp. These trainers still have more than one of the same type/species though. In the anime, from what I can tell, 'type' plays a much smaller role in who wins a battle a lot of the time, making type advantages less of a worry. In this case, it's plausible for a trainer to have 5 Cubones in his team just because he likes Cubone and still be a worthy opponent in battle against a water-based team. As a real world example, why do people own more than one animal of the same breed? I used to have 2 dogs of the same breed (sadly, one passed away). I just like that breed, they're adorable. With the same logic, I should have owned 2 dogs of 2 different breeds...Or a Dog and an Elephant.

pokemons can go out of their pokeballs without permision there been episodes were psyduck comes out of his pokeball without mystic wanting or she having the pokeball on her hand i kinda forgot if it was on manga or anime, but there been moments where a trainer called its pokemon at it came out without the trainner touching the pokeball so in other words one can have a bag full of pokeballs and call all them out without knowing were pokeball they are in,

Even after it is shown he is out of his Pokéball the sound still played when he said his name and photo-bombed the scene. I thought that was weird seeing as how he was already released prior so... Anyway to answer your question +Nick Ice Yes they can hear from inside their Pokéball. This is most evident when a trainer tells them to perform an attack while summoning them. Or during interactions that cause the Pokémon in question to pre-release themselves as was the case with Psyduck, Wobbuffet, Chespin, and others.

hmm another theory i think could be weight, as they pokemon are tuned into energy its logical that a larger pokemon like charizard would have larger energy or more dense energy compared to lets see charmander. so the energy could affect the weight of a pokeball. thus allowing one to distinguish the pokemon
@hanon623
@hanon623 10 жыл бұрын
Weight would make sense, however there have been thieves who were able to differentiate pokemon by species while Ash was unable to differentiate balls entirely even when his own pokemon were in the mix. There are too many inconsistencies with the way pokeballs were handled in the anime for it to logically have one proper conclusion. For the games it seems likely that the order that you place them on the belt is the only sign of reference

1. Maybe they get money from their parents when going on an adventure? And, just like in the games, they could potentially also get money from beating gym trainers (I thought about that just the other day). 2. I think they're energy when inside the ball, albeit, with a consciousness. Matter, after all, is just energy (E=MC2), so the energy you see when they're released/returned to their Pokeballs could be that transformation (I also thought that up just the other day). 3. Maybe because Pikachu is always able to outpour them, and because it's been doing so for so long, Team Rocket's obsession over it only ever grows. They view it as a Pokemon that has traveled from region to region, and always manages to oil their plans; that strength and skill could be so useful if they could catch it. 4. In the anime, certain Pokemon aren't as weak as they are in the games/TCG. That's why they are still seen as useful to Team Rocket. Plus, if it wasn't already evident, Jesse, James, and Meowth aren't exactly the brightest bunch. Maybe they don't completely comprehend the capabilities of certain Pokemon. 5. When someone's doing such an epic intro, it would be too difficult to interrupt, not to mention awkward. :P Plus, who wouldn't just stand there and look at Jesse? She's hot!

1) never heard their parents saying in the phone "i sent you money, enjoy", never seen gym leaders giving them money too 2)dont use E=mc² if you dont know how to type it, anyway thats what i ment by "ethernal form"....... its just hypotetic i was asking how it is, not how it could be :) 3)sounds legit, but doesent explains their crazy theories and why they are not fired from TR yet 4)yes but if you noticed they are not trying to catch only strong pokemons but they are catching absolutely casual pokemons just coz they seems to be usefull to the boss (example: scyther for cutting vegtebles when boss is hungry and so on...) and they really belive he will make them rich for that ?! srsly? :D 5)i wouldnt coz its not epic, its not that difficult to interupt (it happend few times), and only akward thing there is that intro Plus, Jessie is not hot... i would much likely listen to Team Rocket intro told by nurse Joy :3

ThePassword333333 I have not watched pokemon in a while stopped somewhere in season 1 of black and white so I don't know about any thing that happens past the point I stopped. 1) it is unknown how the Ash gets money because as far as I know they don't talk about it at all but money does seem to still be in play because of all the times Team Rocket mentions it. It might be that he gets prize money from the contests/gyms/leagues/etc he enters and that its enough to sustain him for a long period of time. 2) Don't have much to go on here because I can't remember much of what was said on this topic 3) The trio from team rocket are Eccentric but if you notice at times while people are often seem to be quite stupid probably because its intended audience is for younger kids you will notice they aren't always acting so dumb. They aren't fired from team rocket for various reasons, i guess you haven't watched vary much because you would know that they do get fired at one point (may be false) and at the least are almost fired but they do still greatly help team rocket, at one point they don't try to take pikachu for an extended period of time because they are helping team rocket with under cover work and do a great deal for them 4) Like I said they are Eccentric and they often get... ideas and they act on them 5) As for the intro thing I'm not certain as to why Ash does watch it but not everyone does sometimes people as shown in the anime attack team rocket while they are in their intro, it could just be Ash being polite but also it could be because if you just attacked them on sight you would start to seem like as a hole, if every time you saw someone you immediately attacked them and sent them flying you would end up crossing the line at some point and officer jenny would get on your case

In Pokemon Black and White, the pokeballs show the Pokemon on the side of the red on the ball. You look at the pokeball as you pull it out, allowing you to know the Pokemon.

I think that when Pokemon are captured, the Poke Ball gets labeled with that Pokemon's name (most likely on the back, which would explain why it isn't something we actually see, and that would also explain why you are asked if you'd like to nickname your Pokemon or not when you catch or receive one.

Maybe since pokemon seem to be stored electronically (box storage, flash of light composing the pokemon, etc), each pokemon is saved in all six balls which would also explain why only six pokemon can be held due to storage space (one pokeball has space for six pokemon and the remaining five are identical copies for cases in which more than one pokemon needs to be released from the ball). The pokemon then respond to voice commands such as their name which releases them from the ball

The belt order theory seems to be the best for most cases. It would even be supported by the game as your pokemon are stored in a specific order. For cases like misty's backpack, she probably has some physical indicator on it.

It's actually already explained in the anime. There are occasional mix-ups in the show where Pokéballs are mixed up and they lose track of which ones they are. But as time progresses, the trainer gains a sort of link between themselves and their Pokémon, allowing them to know which one is which. When a trainer first starts out, they don't have a strong bond, so marking or arranging the balls in a certain way may help them early on. If a trainer gains a bond or link to their Pokémon though, they can just tell who's in that ball without needing to be marked or arranged specifically.

Maybe the pokemon goes to another world or special room specific to that trainer and they can use any pokeball, but the reason for trainers using more than one pokeball is because only one pokemon can use a ball as an exit at a time and that one that was recently used as an entrance has to charge to teleport or release a pokemon again. Just a thought.

Well thats not all convincent, because, is easy to remember in which Pokeball are your Pokemon when you carrie them so close, but there was an episode that Ash dont knew which Pokemon was inside all those Pokeballs collected from other trainers, he was triyng to call his Bulbasaur but he makes mistakes choosing Drownzee, Magikarp and others, and then when Pikachu found one of his Pokeball, Ash call the Pokemon waiting for anyone because he didnt knew that was Bulbasaurs Pokeball

A random theory from a fic I was reading (ha) is that a telepathic bond slowly forms between a pokemon and their trainer the longer they're together. This would explain how one grows to understand what "Pika pika pika chu pika" means. This could also allow a trainer to "feel" which pokemon is in a particular pokeball.

Another answer to this question comes from the Pokemon Adventures Manga (which was the original comic based on the games and still continues today). In Pokemon Adventures the top of the pokeball is actually semitransparent and the trainers can see the pokemon inside the ball. Hope this helps anyone.

Also the series a few times it has shown that Ash keeps his pokeballs on a belt, that they are secured in a row next to each other, he would be able to know his pokemon by the order he chooses to keep their pokeballs on his belt.
