A lot of Yo-Kai (the game characters) and Pokémon were based off of the same creatures (called yokai) from Japanese mythology. Lombre and Walkappa are both based on the kappa, and Drowzee and Baku are both based on the Baku. PS: Dismarelda is actually married, she just doesn’t have a ring for obvious reasons

Lotad, Lombre, and Ludicolo are based on the kappa kami/yokai. The similarities were unavoidable. One is just a literal copy of the myth, same name and look (Yo-kai watch) and the other is based on it with some design liberties (Pokémon). As you notice a lot of Pokémon are designed after kami/yokai or myths with heavy changes to fit it the pokemon style. You-Kai Watch used mostly kami/yokai with minimal myths that are designed to look like the kami/yokai with little to no changes as that is what they are

The funniest thing is that a lot of the Yokai watch characters came out far before majority of the Pokémon they are compared to especially With Kyubi and Alola ninetails. Secondly the yokai are literally just inspiration for Pokémon and yokai watch makes literal forms of them so.

I always liked Yo-Kai Watch because it was similar to Pokémon but it had it's own creatures and was pretty creative. I mean sure some Yo-Kai are just recolors of other ones with different elemental attacks, but even still, that's just what Oricorio is doing.

For those who dont know, yokai are spirits in Japan, yokai watch characters base their characters of real life yokai, same with pokemon, which causes simularities. Lombre and walkappa are both based on the Japanese yokai kappa, this is why they look similar. The nintales kyubi and frostail are funny since they're all based on the same yokai. Ninetails is a fire type and is yellow, kyubi is a fire element and is yellow, alolan ninetails is an ice type and is grayish, and frostail is an ice element and grayish. Finally, drowzee and Baku are both based on the same yokai as well.
