use to play magic, never played pokemon tcg beyond that one gba color game. that rule seems pretty wack tho. especially in a final what a frustrating way to lose a match. in mtgo each player starts w 25 min? and if a player uses up their 25 min then they lose.
@mrknarf4438
@mrknarf4438 5 жыл бұрын
@@tacobellplease But that's MTGO: in paper Mtg there are warnings which may lead to a Game Loss for Slow Play. But those are only used during the timed parts of competitive events to prevent people from exploiting the clock, during finals there is no clock. He took a minute and a half (15:37 - 17:03) to make a game changing decision. That may seem like much, and as a judge I'd have encouraged him to play faster, but I wouldn't have enforced the penalty at such a high REL: it gives the game a bad reputation and makes it all seem pointless and less exciting for viewers and players alike. It's not like it took him five minutes either. Sure, he had already received a warning, and rules must be applied, but this may set a good precedent to change some of those rules.

If it’s obviously a difficult decision, and you already told him to slow down, what kind of douchebag calls slow play on potentially the most important turn on that whole game. Clearly Shintaro was flustered about the decision

they really should just add official timers in view of the players for next year instead of relying on a judges determination on whether or not someone is taking too long. when it comes to card games or competitive games in general competitors need time to THINK, CONCENTRATE, and make the most optimal plays possible to win. I would absolutely hate having to think ontop of all that on whether or not this judge.... who has no attachment to the match at hand other than making sure i play my cards according to rules .... is going to call time on me ...

For any one that wants a breakdown of the penalty timings: 15:38 Shintaro lifts Heatran from the knockout (Checks opponent's discard, checks own discard) 16:23 Judge starts talking to Shintaro 16:38 Judge intervention finishes 16:49 Judge talks to Shintaro again 16:52 Judge intervention finishes 17:03 Blacephalon promoted and released 1:25 from Heatran knock out to new Pokemon promoted including two judge disruptions totalling 0:18. First (assumed) warning comes after 0:55 seconds. I'll let you guys decide whether this was reasonable or not in the circumstances. Equally, if you want to time other players for comparison, go ahead. Congratulations to Henry - judge intervention was nothing to do with him and he played his game perfectly.

I think a minimum 30 seconds should be allowed to think, a minute should be considered a warn, and at least a minute and 30 seconds should be a prize penalty... the time shouldn't add up for the warning and penalty.
@SeparatedMiles

The fact he was told repeatedly during the event to slow down because he was going so fast. It's biased and should be overturned. Henry may have played the game perfectly but he won on a technicality from interference from the official. So he should not be granted the title. Then the fact that they cut out the part where shintaro is on the floor in tears after thew match shows that pokemon does not care and knows they did wrong.

Why what? Why they gave a penalty to a player who was violating the rule that penalty was made to enforce? Dude wa playing slow all weekend, was warned multiple times, and took more than 45 seconds(!!!!) To promote a pokemon when the given time frame is 5. Judges were more than lenient on him, you break a rule you get punished. How games are played. Whether it's right or not is a different debate, but the rule was broken, penalty has to be applied.

@lannguyen902
@lannguyen902 5 жыл бұрын
@@Ghostrider6A Quite honestly, it really should of been a hot topic way sooner then next year. The penalty for slow play just seems super inconsistent on when the judges decides to enforce it for a lot of years. Sometimes it is very clear that a player is trying to stall out the match to force a draw and the player gets off with a warning while in this match, Shintaro is just trying to think through clearly on what to promote with judges constantly intervening and slowing it down even further and he gets slammed with slow play. There really needs to be more consistency on enforcing the rules at all rounds and levels with the penalty enforced way before the finals.

1. There should be a time clock like in chess so the rules can be objective. 2. There should be a shuffling machine for fair shuffling. This is just common sense, right?

I agree with a visible time but the machine is unnecessary, after shuffling the deck is handed to the other play to shuffle or cut and once both players are happy it is fine, the judge should not have called him on stacking/poor shuffling.

They used to do one prize penalties, but the problem is they can be gamed. Ie, if you only have pokemon that offer 2 prizes upon knockout, you can purposefully take a 1 prize penalty and then play a card that is more powerful while you are behind, though in reality, your opponent still has to make the same number of KOs.

Umm.. He was slow playing and this wasn't the first time he had done it this tournament. It shouldn't take 1 minute and 30 seconds to look through the discard pile(s) and then bring up a new Active Pokemon. 30 seconds maybe but nearly a minute and a half? Nah, no way. As this is the finals of Masters we're talking about here, the judges need to be strict in order to be fair. Not to mention how Shintaro had been given multiple warnings by various judges throughout the event to play at a more faster pace and yet he still continued to play slow, thus leading to the prize penalty. The penalty wasn't put on Shintaro unfairly, it was put on him as a result from the many warnings he had been given. This was all said by the commentators. That's why he got given the 2 prize penalty.

I can see both sides of the Argument for the Judge call, while it does seem a little unfair that shintaro didn't get to play out the match, and maybe pull a win out of it, he did take a very long time between stopping looking through discard piles and making his decision, which he knows he should be avoiding due to his previous warnings. It would've been nice to see Shintaro win, but the judge ruling wasn't entirely uncalled for.
@RobertBrianGabriel
@RobertBrianGabriel 5 жыл бұрын
problem is it is the finals and the allotment of time. the earlier rounds, players tend to slow play to go for a draw. But does judges really realize a lot of things happening to get to that draw? e.g imagine using a Cherish Ball getting a GX, but all the players would check his whole deck for minutes to check what cards were prized. Some players even pick a GX already and still check his deck? For me that is a slow play, eating the clock a lot and maybe going for the draw?!
@lucarr1041
@lucarr1041 5 жыл бұрын
@@RobertBrianGabriel They tend to be a bit more lenient for the first time the deck is searched, as all of the higher level players check to see what's prized, and so there's no unfair time advantage from it. There will be a cut off though, probably at around 1-1.5 minutes where that first search is called to have taken too long.

Checking the discard pile(s) may be an action but it doesn't move forward the gamestate. You're not playing any cards (which you couldn't do as an Active Pokemon needed to be brought up before the turn could begin) and you're not triggering any effects. It shouldn't take that long to look through the discard pile(s) and then bring up a new Active Pokemon. 30 seconds maybe but nearly a minute and a half? Nah, no way. The penalty wasn't put on Shintaro unfairly, it was put on him as a result from the many warnings he had been given. To pick out your original response of "I believe the audience's eyes are clear and we can discern the truth." What do you mean by this? That the judges were being out of order? That Shintaro is innocent and should have been the Champion instead? I'm sorry but from the points I have previously stated, which have been said in the video by the commentators. Henry Brand deserved the win. He played fast and efficiently, like a champion should do. I believe the penalty was completed justified and Shintaro deserved the penalty 100%.

After his defending pokemon was defeated, he had to decide which pokemon to promote from his bench. Which one he chose could have decided the game depending on his hand and the card he draws. However this was cut short by the judges deciding he took too long to promote a new pokemon, and in combination with penalties and warnings in previous rounds the judges decided to deliver a 2 prize card penalty. This gave the game to Henry as he only needed to win 2 more prize cards to win that game.
