Why don't they use the driving cab? It's the oddest situation. It's not like the cab is unfamiliar to Kiwirail drivers since they are based on DX cabs.

Safety issues, and the DX's havent worked this far north is YEARS, the cabs have been tested recently though and drivers are being trained

It illustrates how how poor the railway is in terms of the road infrastructure. To be competitive viz road times to Auckland needs a new railway..
